With 11 of 40 districts reporting statewide, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is leading in Republican preferential voting, according to a spreadsheet just e-mailed out by the party.

Of 3013 ballots counted so far, Romney has 52.4 delegates, followed by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 31.6 delegates, Rep. Ron Paul with 27.6 delegates and Sen. John McCain with 27.2 delegates.

Romney is up big in Alaska, 41-22.

Must be some set number of delegates Alaska has.

It won’t matter: Romney will win Alaska. With McCain as bitterly opposed to ANWR as he has been, with Romney’s acceptance as a whole out west, and without the lockset evangelical crowd you see in the southeast, there was no way he was going to lose.

Romney will probably win AK.

The problem is he’s losing CA badly.

If he could have held his own in CA it would have been a good night for him. He did fine elsewhere. But CA is going to really hurt his chances.

Seems they’re counting delegates, not percentages, but I fail to see how you can have 0.4 or 0.2 of a person.

Fox reporting at 28% of the vote Romney 41% Huckabee 22%? and McCain 19.

I’ll call it for Romney now.

The MSM will say it is a “ small consolation state “ that will not mean much in the big picture. I love how entire states are thrown out the window if they are not big enough in the MSM’s eyes.

So that means what now for Mitt?

Alaska, Michigan, Maine, Wyoming, Nevada, Mass, Colorado, Utah, Minn, Montana, North Dakota..what else am I missing?

Yeah, I’m a dummy. It says delegates, not percentage.

I’m guessing Alaska doesn’t have many delegates? or not enough to matter at this stage anyway to give mitt a boost.

Hey every little bit helps at this point for Romney.

The MSM will say it is a “ small consolation state “ that will not mean much in the big picture.

Maybe so, but more than some may think.

"Alaska will send 26 Pledged Delegates-at-large to the Republican National Convention in Minneapolis, MN, September 1-4, 2008, along with 3 RNC Member Delegates, for a total of 29 Alaska Delegates. This gives Alaska 2 percent of the Delegates attending the National Convention, and just one Delegate less than Connecticut, Oregon or West Virginia. In fact, 16 states and territories have fewer National delegates than Alaska."

What are the next states that he could compete in?

Kansas, Washington, and Louisiana will be next in 3 days...Mitt can win in Washington...but Huckabee will probably take Kansas and La.

Then we have D.C., Maryland, and Virginia on the 12th just 3 more days later. Something tells me those will all go McCain.

16th is Guam..that will go McCain since it is all military.

Wisconsin on the 19th along with Washington Primary. Those would go Romney.

Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are all after that and lean liberal so those would go McCain.

Then comes March 4th where we have Ohio, Texas,Vermont, and Rhode Island. Romney if he sticks around could take Vermont, Rhode Island and have a shot at Ohio. McCain or Huckabee in Texas.

March 11th is Mississippi that will go Huckabee if he is still around.

April 22nd is Pennsylvania and that could go Mitt or McCain.

May 6th - Indiana and North Carolina - That could go Mitt/Huckabee

May 13th - Nebraska - That could go Romney

May 20th - Kentucky/Oregon - That could go Huckabee/Romney

May 27th - Idaho - Romney

June 3rd - New Mexico/South Dakota - I see that split for McCain/Romney.

I don’t see why Mitt should drop out at the moment...he still has a lot of wins in his corner and has room to pick up at least 10 if not a dozen more.

You must be quoting Fox News then.

Why doesn’t the whole country vote on the same day? That way you wouldn’t get people influenced by the media who the front-runner is.

Some people in the states yet to vote may decide NOT to vote for Mitt after hearing all the negative comments about him losing, even though as you said, he still has a chance, albeit a small one. If everyone voted on the same day, this disadvantage wouldn’t exist for some candidates.

If everyone had voted on the IA Caucus day, it’d probably be a race between Romney and Guliani with Thompson being a spoiler.
