2012 Republican Presidential Nomination Candidate List
Myself | 02/06/08 | GOPGuide

Posted on 02/06/2008 4:13:58 PM PST by GOPGuide

Ok, the GOP is heading for disaster this November.

Just for the sake of conversation who do people like for president in 2012? Here is a list of conservatives who might make a race out of 2012:

General David Petraeus

Senator John Thune

Senator John Ensign

Senator Jim DeMint

Governor Don Carcieri

Governor Mark Sanford

Governor Bobby Jindal

Governor Haley Barbour

Oh, and how about replacing Iowa and New Hampshire in the Republican nomination with more reliably conservative medium sized states such as Colorado and Nevada going first and second respectively and allowing ONLY registered Republicans to vote in the primary?

Haley Barbour would be great, but you can’t have Bobby Jindal. We haven’t had the pleasure of his governorship long enough yet and it will take at least two terms for him to drain the swamp down here (so to speak).

Start by replacing Jerry Clower Haley Barbour with John Cornyn.

Remove the General (not interested) and Jindal (not seasoned).

I'll take that list as a starting point.

“But what if McCain wins in 2008?”

I guess it is possible, but it looks really unlikely if you can’t even get Sean Hannity and Limbaugh to push you.

On the other hand, I am hearing Independents tell me that they like McCain.

"Very conservative" Republicans only make up less than 4% of the total electorate.

In 2007, self-identified Republicans were about 28 percent of the mass electorate, self-identified Democrats were about 32 percent, and self-identified independents were about 39 percent. Fifty-five percent of Republicans self-identified as "conservative," 26 percent as "moderate," and 13 percent as "very conservative." ...... Now, do the simple math. "Very conservative" Republicans are only about 3.6 percent--28 percent times 13 percent--of the mass electorate. If that just seems too low, consult the American National Election Studies (ANES) and add the 12 percent of independents who lean Republican to the 12 percent who are self-described "weak Republicans" and the 16 percent who are self-described "strong Republicans." This sums to 40 percent of the mass electorate. But that still means just 5.2 percent of all voters (40 percent times 13 percent) qualify as "very conservative" Republicans.

If we are a tail that always expects to wag the dog of America, we will find ourselves as a dead, cut off tail.

Ron Paul might actually win, if he goes third party.

I suppose but I would consider it about as likely as my winning the lottery tonight.

Forget meaningless name lists for 2012. How about a conservative party instead? Know of any?

But what if McCain wins in 2008?

Then the candidate chosen for 2012 will face an even tougher road after four years of a president with an R after his name working with Dims and damaging the country.

I’ll study your list. From looking at some posts on this thread its clear some didn't get the memo. It does no good to recruit choir directors to preach to the choir. We saw how Duncan Hunter did.

We need a strong conservative leader who can persuade both conservatives and sufficient non-conservatives Republicans to vote for him/her within a big tent. Someone who can persuade like Newt Gingrinch but without the negative baggage.

Bobby Jindal should be on the ‘08 ticket. Mitt Romney will run again in 2012 and folks will be ready for his capabilities, experience, and message.

I like Jindal but he is way too young. He needs to wait about 12-16 years.

If Hillary wins, this list is a moot point.

You see...there will never BE another election if she wins. Leader-for-Life Hillary, followed by whatever power-mad successor she names.

Fight like Hell to keep the Evil One out of office.

Lincoln Chafee!

But then again, given recent trends, he’d probably be far too conservative for the GOP by 2012.
