Tuning out Rush Limbaugh
The Guardian(UK) ^ | February 6, 2008 | Niall Stanage

Posted on 02/07/2008 7:06:49 AM PST by Dane

In mid-January, talk show host Rush Limbaugh told his 13 million listeners: "If either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch." Those of us who watched last night only saw Republicans favouring the two alleged destroyers over Romney, whom Limbaugh consistently favours.

Snip

The irony in all of this is that McCain actually is a staunch conservative on many issues, including abortion, and is not above the occasional pander to the hard-right himself. (Last year, he seemed to back off harsh criticisms he made of religious right leaders during his 2000 presidential bid, for example.) But his strong performance yesterday indicates that grassroots Republicans are, in fact, willing to tolerate his departures from party orthodoxy. They continue to admire his heroism as a POW during the Vietnam war. And they still seem him as the most electable candidate in a general election.

Have you ever listened to Rush?

Listen to the people who call in and tell him how disgusted they are with McCain.

Rush is holding a mirror up to the conservatives in this country, not trying to tell them what to do.

The problem is that they are so compromised in principle that they can’t bear to hear just how compromised they are. So let the LEFTIST “Republicans” tune Rush and others out. Let them have their hissy fits. Let them vote for Demoncrats. The rest of us will sleep soundly at night knowing we voted our conscience - and that may include - NOT VOITNG for scoundrels - McCain and the Huckster.

When McCain was polling about 8 % in the Fall, he fell off the radar. Even after he won NH, people here still wrote him off. By the time conservatives realized what was happening, it was too late to get the "inattentive" voter to focus on him closely....

Where was FR's "truth file" on John McCain? Too busy fighting Rudy who was already out of it...

You are right on; your analysis rationally illustrates what the media is actively doing to give Democrats total control in Washington. I wish everyone on FR would read your comment and think about it.

Try to differentiate between “Britain” and “The Archbishop of Canterbury”.

They are not the same entity.

To help you with this mental shift, think of something stupid that Hillary or Bill or Buraq Hussein or McCain has said recently. Then ask yourself why America would say such a stupid thing.

McCain will lose by as large of a margin as Goldwater.

I agree.

But the biggest tragedy will be the way he brings down conservative candidates at the local, state and congressional level (as conservatives stay home or vote third party).

At least if we had a conservative candidate at the top of the ticket--even if he lost--we could keep a filibuster proof senate to oppose Hillary or Obama. If we lose that--the democats have a blank check.

I think if a little more analysis had been given to possible future hopes for the GOP, we’d have had a stronger set to pick from.

How in this great wide world would "more analysis" have provided the Republicans with a "stronger set" to pick from?

If a man doesn't have fire in the belly to run for US President, all the "analysis" in the world is not gonna heat his belly up one degree.

Methinks you are looking at things bass-ackwards.

A good candidate is one who, through lifelong experience, has developed the fortitude and expertise and DESIRE to run for President.

One doesn't suddenly 'get' fortitude and character simply because Limbaugh or anyone speaks in pleasing tones.

This particular election cycle finally removed me from the republican party.

Frankly, I think Rush is right on this one.

I have no problem seeing the Demoncrats get the WH. If that is how the Republican party must learn - so be it!

What lesson was learned from Republicans sitting out 2006? That without a Republican in the White House the war on terror would be lost. What lesson was learned from Republicans voting for Perot in 1992? That voting third party means Clintons in charge. Lessons learned. No need to learn them again.

I really don’t want the U.S. to turn into another France or Uk. Mitt is right. We are heading in THAT direction with McCain, Mister Amnesty and the Huckster on immigration.

Huckabee promotes ‘open door’ policy at LULAC convention
Thursday, Jun 30, 2005

By Wesley Brown
Arkansas News Bureau
LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,” Huckabee said, citing the Golden Rule. “I have tried to govern that way and it stands to reason that I really do believe that what made this great country so great and so unique is that it has always been a place for people to run to - and not run from.

“I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...,” Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.

Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.

About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.

Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.

“Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority,” Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.

He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state’s capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation.

“Your gathering is so very significant for our state,” Huckabee said. “We are delighted to have you.”

Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity “in culture, in language and in population.”

“This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico,” Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. “But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force.”

During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.

Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee’s comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.

The Republican governor, who many believe will run for president in 2008, also backed legislation that would have opened the door for illegal immigrants in Arkansas to receive college scholarships.

House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, was approved by the House but eventually failed in the Senate. Huckabee reiterated Wednesday that he believes every child, regardless of their parent’s immigration status, should have an opportunity to receive an education in the U.S.

Look at how the Huckster justifies thumbing his nose at our LAWS on THE BOOKS NOW! He twists the “Golden Rule” to fit his self serving agenda - not at all Christan.

I have no problem seeing the Demoncrats get the WH. If that is how the Republican party must learn - so be it! It’s all about PRINCIPLE. I can’t compromise on that to the EXTREME that a McCain and a Huckster require. If need be, I’ll write in a vote for Mitt or maybe a pet.

You say it best! Agree with everything you said. The GOP still hasn't learned a thing from the 2006 elections.

Yes, Hillary is responsible for what she does with the Justices.

Any possibility of Roe v. Wade being overturned in our lifetimes will be lost if the Dems get to nominate the next group of Supreme Court justices.

"If either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch."

If the Democrats get elected, it's going to destroy the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA as we have known it and our forefathers created it. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. You watch.

Consider the Supreme Court appointments.

Consider the millions of immigrants imported by the Democrats because they will increase the percentage of the population that will vote Democrat. Democrats will give them a fast track to citizenship--to keep the Democrats in power. Lyndon Johnson's cynical words will pale in comparison.

Consider the laws the Democrats will pass.

Consider the ease and the permanence with which Democrats will entrench corruption in the federal and state governments.

Once the Democrats have seized control of the U.S. government, they will change it forever. You watch.

It would be better to elect a RINO than a Radical Leftist Democrat. The damage done by a RINO may be reversable, at least in part. The damage done by a Radical Leftist Democrat will be permanent.

I intend to support the Republican nominee.

I am a single issue voter: Defeat the Democrats.

A vote for Perot was a vote for Clinton.

I have always respected Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter and their opinions. However, if they encourage the good people of America not to do everything legally possible to defeat the Democrats at the polls--if they encourage voters not to support the better of the Presidential candidates--if they encourage the electorate not to vote for a RINO rather than a Radical Leftist--my respect for them and their judgment will take a nosedive.

It is more important to save the U.S.A. than to save the Republican Party. We can do the former without doing the latter, but we cannot do the converse.

“I find it refreshing that Limbaugh is making good on what he’s told his listeners for decades: He’s not a Republican... He’s a conservative.”

I do too!

Many are finding out their really NOT conservatives and this is hurting their little feelings. It’s no wonder they back other juveniles, McCain with the temper problem and the Huckster with the truth problem.

Won’t vote for either of them under ANY conditions.

Let the Demoncrats have the WH. Like the disaster Carter, it’ll be ONE term and then even the dumbest of the dumb will vote Republican for a REAL conservative.
