State numbers update: McCain still ahead, but not by enough to call the race

The state Republican party just posted updated numbers, and here's what it looks like:
87.2 percent of precincts are reporting.
McCain: 25.5 percent Huckabee: 23.7 percent Paul: 20.6 percent Romney: 16.5 percent Uncommitted: 12.7 percent Other: 1.1 percent
So ... did McCain win? The Associated Press thinks so, and they've called it a victory in their election story.
But we can't be sure, because 12.8 percent of precincts haven't reported. And because the state party is posting very general numbers, there's no way for us to know which districts aren't counted and what that may mean.
Here's how state party chairman Luke Esser put it: "Based on analysis, that's how it appears." (That being a McCain win.) "We didn't want to say it's a certainty, but we should have something near final numbers in the next couple of days.
When I asked whether they'd be counting tomorrow, Esser replied: "Call us tomorrow afternoon."
Will do.

I can’t believe it’s down to these two. I wanted Huck to go away before he even arrived so lets just get this over with. Redistricting is in our favor so get some handlers in there and steer this ship for 4.
Elections is Washington state can seem to just go on and on and on...
...at least until the person they want to win is ahead.
They are still trying to get numbers from the Precincts.
This is new for the County Parties and not all were going to be a quick turn around.
Like many others, I really don't care. The GOP is not going sufficiently rally behind either.
The Washington Republicans are being pathetically slow. They make the New Mexico Democrats seem efficient by comparison.
If this had been a two way race from the start, Huck would have a big lead.
McCain could not win anyone one on one.
The MSM will spin this as the McCain juggernaut, getting more than 1 in 4 votes! That is unless they’ve started the McCain takedown.
Blame the system, not the party. We do not even register by party in Washington.
It is hard enough to get the results of an election we all you have to do is collect results from the Counties Auditors all using an unified and electronic/automated system.
Now try doing it while collecting results from thousands of precincts (many run by little old grandma), all paper, all hand counted. Precincts to County Party to State Party.
Not to mention this is a brand new thing for WA Republicans.
As a California Native I know the system for you is simple. Register as a Republican, Vote a Republican Ballot (Absentee, likely), let the State do the rest.
Here it is all volunteer all the time, completely grassroots and bottom up.
Go easy on Grandma and honor those who serve.
I would say the McCain takedown has begun.
As predicted here many times, first the MSM will try to widen the rift between McCain and the conservative base. They will be pointing out ALL the issues conservatives have with McCain.
Then, they will go after the Independents who provided McCain with the Republican nomination. Since they convicned these rather apathetic and ignorant folks to vote for McCain in the first place, they will brainwash them into voting Democrat in the elections.
Meanwhile, they’ll use the failures of conservatives to elect a real Republican as a sign of the end of the conservative movement. Marginalizing talk radio will also occur.
It’s all part of their 10-year plan. They used the ignorance of the RINOs and establishment Republicans (who now think a conservative can’t be elected) to achieve their goals.
It’s really come together quite nicely for the Liberal Media and the Democrats.

I’m sorry. Maybe I was a bit too harsh. While the counting of votes and passing them up the line seems pretty easy, I would guess that having not done a caucus before, dealing with congressional district lines and who’s vote counts where could be a bitch.
Presumably that’s why the GOP State Chairman is pretty sure McCain won, and why we have “87% Reporting” while not having any breakdown by county.

It wasn’t the media that made Iowa choose Mike Huckabee over one of the good candidates. If they’d given him the drubbing he deserved we would at least have a conservative option now, if not an outright conservative winner.

Republicans now have a choice between an unstable Senator and a con artist clown guv!
I have not spoken to the State Party in a few hours, but last I heard they were still waiting on a couple counties to report.
I would be surprised if King County finished tonight, 2600 precincts to report and consolidate.
My County took a 2 1/2 hours to finish and we only have 92 precincts, 91 of which meet in a pooled format. We had to hand count 300 delegate “ballots” and cross check them against “elected delegates” (alternates do not count) and delegate allocation per precinct. Of course phone calls had to be made to PCOs or Attendees (not all precincts have a PCO to run things, so an attendee had to figure this out and do it right) to correct forms.
We have always caucused, but never counted Delegate Presidential Preferences before.
The system is bad, the Party volunteers do their best.

Iowa chose Huckabee instead of Thomspon. That eventually killed Thompson’s campaign, and caused a bunch of evangelicals to vote for a candidate who shared their faith, but who also supported a bunch of liberal policies.
It looks like Hillary’s ties to Tata and Comsys didn’t help her much in King County.
The presidential candidate count comes when one takes the presidential preference information from the caucus sign-up sheet of each delegate (including the PCO) recorded on the Precinct Caucus delegate document. One must scrutinize both documents to get the count.
The results of the precinct caucus is forwarded to the Legislative District Chairman who forwards it to the Republican County Central Committee. This then is forwarded to the Washington State Secretary of State.
There is no computerized system used in the process. Numbers are sent in by phone.
