Well, I misread you then. Thank you for pointing that out as politely as you did...

As for the UN...give them time.

Nanny State Ping.

Condolences to the family of this girl. With that said I find it disgusting how the anti-smoker cartel is and will exploit this event to further their socialistic goals.

“Rosenman said the woman had asthma since age 2. Her asthma was poorly controlled.”

IMHO, if she had asthma since she was 2 years old she had ample opportunity to learn to “try” to maintain and minimize any attacks. I find it hard to believe with over 16 years experience with asthma she was never informed of any, or all, potential triggers and to do her utmost to avoid them. The article alludes to her inability to control the disease but stops there. There is a reason they did not expand on that comment or mention any personal identiers. This researcher has found a case to justify his research based on his political agenda.

Condolences to the family.
But...
If she had such a major problem with asthma why, in the name of common sense, was she working there?

I smell something fishy......

What! Again?!

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you, I’m just recognizing that we’re dealing with a teeager.
And teenagers are often not the most logical creatures on the planet.

I know there have been times my hubby has misplaced his inhaler, and insurance won’t refill right away (a limit on how many they cover over a certain pd. of time)

It would have been interesting, too, if the writer had bothered to look into her coverage.

It is very expensive stuff, and I could see if money was a problem - then a person might be reluctant to go through the inhaler too quickly - developing a tendency to only take a puff when you are already in trouble.

Some will say she should be canonized as the Saint of Second Hand Smoke.

I say give her a Darwin Award!

"This forum is being taken over by the heartless."

Not the heartless, just logical, observant freedom-loving readers who honor and respect the principles our Founding Fathers established that the liberal left would like to take away and control. I have asthmatic attacks brought on by many differing triggers: old lady perfumes, pollen, certain cat and dog dander, stress, etc. I NEVER leave home without an emergency inhaler, and always consider the environment I am about to place myself within...Based on those two actions I have not had an attack in over 1 year (and yes, I smoke cigarettes and have cats). Read the article again and you will note that she "had asthma since she was 2" and that it "was POORLY controlled".

In an article written with such an obvious agenda that definitely implies that she was failing to monitor her own health. Also, note that the researcher cited throughout tthe article is using this case to get his theory published in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine. Her refuses to identify the name of the person in question thus denying potential verification of his determiniations which justify his research.

Nothing scares politicians more than people who can think for and take care of themselves.

Worth repeating.

Also, please note that ALL children can receive heathcare coverage under SCHIP, if they fail to qualify for Medicaid. Lack of healthcare or insurance is a moot point IMO. This article was published to promote a blatent liberal agenda.

I don’t know the specifics of SCHIP...does a 19 yr. old qualify as a “child”?

I agree this article is propoganda...I’m just pointing out there could have been other factors in his situation that the reporter never bothered to consider because of the obvious bias.

Like I said before about my hubby - we are covered, but there have been times he’s lost his inhaler right after filling the prescription. Insurance makes you wait before they’ll fill another.

Local law apparently allows people under 21 to work in bars. In some states, Oklahoma for instance, a person under 21 can’t even go into a store where alcohol is sold.

It seems from the reports that the young woman was in denial about the seriousness of her asthma: she wasn’t taking the basic precautions a reasonable asthmatic person would. In my family, we call this kind of thing “died of stupid.”

“It seems from the reports that the young woman was in denial about the seriousness of her asthma:”

A sad truth about teenagers in general.
Most teens believe they are invincible - unfortunately for some the worst has to happen before that bubble is burst.
