How deep into the Dem mindset is Joe Klein? The Time columnist can't figure out why Hillary Clinton drives Republicans up a wall. He candidly admitted this today, chatting with Brian Williams on MSNBC.

BRIAN WILLIAMS: On the Republican side, does John McCain blunt back the attack, the insurgents on the right?

JOE KLEIN: I think to a certain extent he will. He'll have a lot more -- you know Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee would give him a great assist. Because the Republicans are completely berserk for reasons that kind of escape me about Hillary Clinton. She's not a wild lefty, she's a fairly moderate person. But she's the enemy, and if she materializes on the Democratic side, you're going to have a united and fierce Republican party.

Because she will be maximally effective. It isn't just about how ideologically leftist the candidate is. Obama, as a president, would be figuratively opening doors the wrong way, throwing himself at brick walls, fumbling for and losing the keys, hesitating on the shots, etc. He would attempt to craft minute coalitions when larger ones are needed, he would alienate swaths of "moderates" in Congress who are less swayed by empty rhetoric than the general public.

On the other hand, Hillary (and similarly - though to a much lesser extent - McCain) knows every trick in the book, has all the dirt, knows the secrets, has all the insiders and holdovers in her pocket, is owed all the favors, starts off with the most twisted arms, and won't flinch when it comes to destroying America. She knows what she wants, she knows how to get it, and she will have no second thoughts nor will pull any punches. She is the more clever devil.

Remember the joke from 1980, that the liberals couldn’t understand how Reagan got elected. Because “nobody I know voted for Ronald Reagan” said one liberal to another. In their insulated isolated worldview, they don’t understand how Hillary is perceived.

People like him either want to lull some into thinking the Clinton’s are not really the monsters we think they are or they don’t understand that it is not just their Policies, it is them and their hunger for power at any cost and their patently manipulative, divisive nature. They are certifiable and, IMO, much, much more dangerous than a President Obama.
