What would “forcing” an open convention gain anyone?

If he could get votes, he would have gotten them by now.

I will add that if, at this point in the process, a conservative candidate emerged who began to consistently win and win BIG (decisively), that’s another situation.

That would be a situation in which the candidate demonstrated that his candidacy could catch fire.

But to hope to stop the train by barely putting enough pebbles on the track is not the way to go.

I am NOT going to pull any lever for president. How can I?

Obama? seems like a nice guy, but no

McCain? definiitely no.

HilLIARy? GOD No~!

So.. here is what I am going to do- No vote for president and across the line republican for congressional seats.

That is better than sitting home and letting HiLIARy get a democrat congress.

Forget the presidency. We need to ensure we get Congress back to a coservative one. then it does not matter which of these liberals wins.

Besides, if HilLIARy wins with a republican gongress, WE CAN IMPEACH ANOTHER CLINTON~!!! ha ha what fun

Look, it is already pretty clear the Dem candidate will win in Nov. The only question is which Dem candidate (Clinton the Leftist? Obama the Leftist? Or McCain the Leftist?).

Just kidding (very slightly) on McCain. Should have called him, well, Leftist fits if one takes a close look at his history of statements and voting record, antigun, proamnesty, hinderance of attempts to free Vietnam POWs, statements like “Hillery would make a great President” (well, sure, if you are looking for someone to remake the USA ala Chavez style), etc etc.

McCain is one of those candidates that looks the best to folks who know him the least. Could say the same for Obama, come to think of it.

No, one must move beyond 08. Bush pretty much had screwed up the Repub Party that I used to know.

My thinking is that Hillery as Pres, would at least get the Repubs to unit in opposition to socialistic, tyrannical measures but McCain would push simular and be much hard for Repubs to oppose.

For sure, McCain won’t get my vote. Nor will the Democratic in all but name Gov Arnold S of Calif here.

Why not? Because I’m not going to vote for a liberal Dem and McCain is a liberal Dem. He used to be semi-conservative 6+ yrs ago, but has since moved strongly into the Dem camp. Kerry didn’t want McCain as VP for no reason.

“The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs the affairs of man [Romans 8:28]. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice [Matthew 10:29], is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it [Psalms 127:1]. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel [Genesis 11:1-9].”

HILLARY is better than McCain for God’s sake...

No she isn't.

The fact is that McCain is no worse than GWB.

Are you willing to say that Hillary is better than GWB for God's sake?

“You are one of the people who do ont understand how bad it will be for McNut. “

Quite mistaken. I fully appreciate that they will both would receive a drubbing...per my previous comment. McCain’s will be tempered only slightly because of his age and pow status, but not by much.... Huck’s, however, would be a full on bashfest because he’s a “twofer” — a redneck hick and a corrupt baptist preacher....2 of the media’s/democrat’s favorite pinatas.

This means Governor Huckabee only needs about 64 percent of the remaining delegates to force an open convention.

He'll have to do better than he did last night.

That is, assuming she is caught committing an impeachable offense.

Besides, considering the impact of her husband's impeachment on his time in office, this would just be a waste of time and money.

Free republic should ban this sort of posts. McCain IS the candidate now, so if you don’t want Bin Laden congratulating Obama for his victory in November, stop posting this kind of useless threads.

“This means Governor Huckabee only needs about 64 percent of the remaining delegates to force an open convention. Winning 64 percent of the delegates doesn’t require winning 64 percent of the votes, since the states generally weight their allocations of delegates disproportionately in favor of the winner”

This whole convention strategy was fool’s gold at best. Since Huckabee hasn’t kept pace it is absolutely impossible for him to win. He would need much more than 64% of the vote, which is a polically unachievable number even for a good candidate. But the part of the equation you forgot is that Romney will endorse and sway his Delegates to go to McCain to be the Party statesman.

The fat lady already sung and went home.

The less votes that McCain gets, the more he will be forced to listen to conservatives, and hopefully bend a little on his liberal ideas. And Huckabee STILL has a chance until McCain gets the required # of delegates.

That’s why I say: Go Huckabee!

“Most likely McCain would still be the nominee, but with a VP choice forced up on him.”

Guess that would keep McCain from having Leiberman as his VP.

What about Huckabee’s Tyson connection..... And so on.

They are all bought and paid for. I think McCain will be the most likely to stand up for what he thinks is best for the country.

Easy Does It

McCain thinks he can win without social conservative votes in the fall.

Once he hits 1191 he will dump social conservatives.
