With this move, I disagree. I’m a huge “Mitt”en...but I just can’t stomach McCain. However, I’m sure Romney has his eye on 2012, just like Reagan had his eye on 1980 in ‘76.

Well: why not privately lobby — maybe with your delegates to trash The Huckster’s dream chances — McLame to be his Veep and then wait for that old codger to kick two years into his term? That would make him POTUS by 2010 — a whole two years earlier.

And BTW: Romney is no Ronaldo Reaganez.

If I read one more comparison or MR to RR, I am going to vomit.

If Willard does, he is wasting his time, energy and money. There is serious opposition to this RINO and isn't going away. Fortunately, a real conservative candidate will likely emerge, rendering Romney with no serious chance of winning the nomination.

I heard McCain say that Romney should call him and get behind him if Romney means what he said about putting the country first and wanting to be a uniter.

McCain’s tone of voice was arrogant and almost sneering.

Stop comparing Romney to Reagan.

There is no comparison.

Reagan was a conservative.

Romney`s record shows he supported liberal issues and liberal causes his entire life.

As someone who liked Romney, as the next best of the candidates after Hunter and Thompson, I hope you are right in the sense that Reagan also spent those intervening years writing and speaking for the conservative cause. For me to really be excited about Romney in the next round, he has to do a lot to shore up his conservative credentials as a matter of principal, not political expedience. Still, if I sound cynical, I do like him, think he's a good man, think he can make a great candidate, but needs to finish the journey to a true leader of the conservative movement.

Most likely Romney has his eye on McCain-Romney in ‘08. This would be the fast track to Romney ‘12 while helping to pull some of the base back in.

There isn’t a bigger admirer of president Reagan on this forum and I say, Romney is as articulate, charismatic and optimistic as Reagan and in those regards, as well as a few others, Romney can be compared to Reagan. Ignore the people who differ with you about that. They’re wrong.
