i have been burned by best buy...bought a defective piece of merchandise, went back to the store (within an hour of purchase) and they would not take it back, but offered to send it out for repair (6 weeks minimun) that was 8 years ago, and I have not set foot in a best buy since then..

Sounds like what happened to me at best buy. I once bought a 5 disc-DVD player from them. About 8 or 9 months later it broke down on me. I took it back to them to get repaired. For some reason, they were unable to contact their repair center over their computers. So they let me choose a new one off their shelves. My choice of player for up to the same price. Anything over would come out of my pocket. I chose a Samsung 5 disc DVD player. It cost me 15 dollars more. No big deal. I took it home, and right out of the box it wouldnt work! At least correctly. It refused to recognize a disc put in the tray. After fiddling with it for a bit, it finally played a movie. After that one, it kept insisting that there was no disc in the tray even though I had the 5 disc carousel filled up with 5 DVDs.

So next day I went back to best buy. This time they refused to let me exchange it or get my money back. They insisted on sending it out for repairs. And told me that I would have to wait for 4-6 weeks. I waited. Took it home, and it worked. For about 9 or 10 months. Then it broke down. Instead of bringing it back to Best Buy, I went out to a different store and bought a combo single disc DVD player and VHS tape player (so that I could still watch my VHS tape collection). It was only about 60 bucks. Worked for me for about a couple years before the DVD player breaking down. Went out and bought a new one which is what I'm using now.

(I've never bought anything ever again from Best Buy)
