Hawaii used to be a Republican state, but there’s something called ‘Democrats Revolution’ in the late 1950s, which was triggered by a wave of local Japanese voted that party. This last until now, even the current governor is a Republican. They love to contrast themselves with ‘people from the mainland’, which according to them, ‘more individual, and do not have Ohana (familial feeling) to each other’. Economically, many of people in Hawaii prefer nanny-state style. Socially, the diversity in ethnicity make them push for ‘more tolerance’. It was a sad day for the liberals, however, when in 1998 people of HI voted ‘NO’ to gay marriage.

From Wikipedia:
Obama was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Barack Obama, Sr. (born in Nyanza Province, Kenya, of Luo ethnicity) and Ann Dunham (born in Wichita, Kansas)... Obama's parents met while both were attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where his father was enrolled as a foreign student.[10] They separated when he was two years old and later divorced.[11] His father went to Harvard University to pursue Ph.D. studies, then returned to Kenya, where he died in an auto accident in 1982.[12]
His mother married another foreign student, Lolo Soetoro, and the family moved to Soetoro's home country of Indonesia in 1967.[13] Obama attended local schools in Jakarta from ages 6 to 10, where classes were taught in Indonesian.[14][15]
He then returned to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents while attending Punahou School, which he described in his 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father, as a 'prestigious prep school', from the fifth grade until his graduation in 1979.[16] He later wrote of his time in Hawaii: "The opportunity that Hawaii offeredto experience a variety of cultures in a climate of mutual respectbecame an integral part of my world view, and a basis for the values that I hold most dear."[17] Obama's mother died of ovarian cancer in 1995.[18]

That could explain Hawaii's results if it wasn't for similar blowouts in Idaho, Kansas, Virginia, etc! I believe Obama will win with higher percentage in HI. If not, that's the impact of Senator Inouye, a very influential Japanese American who happened to back Hillary.

The item in Wikipedia is not complete. The mother also finished Ph.D., in Anthropology, with a topic on Blacksmith industry in Indonesia. It also didn’t mention Maya Soetoro, his sister, who still lives in Honolulu.

I lived in Hawaii (the big Island and also Maui for a short time) and it is true that there is a big meth problem there... Also, a lot of people who work service type jobs who probably have bought the lie that Dems are better for the "little guy." But I do have to say, it's not all liberal there. There are many Christians, who most likely are not Democrats.

Many Christians in Hawaii are Democrats. Note that many of those Christians are of Japanese descent and Filipino, which traditionally vote for Democrats.

The item in Wikipedia is not complete. Quite true; I just did a very quick copy/paste of part of one section. I presume Obama's staff has gone over the entry and corrected anything that's way out of whack -- they'd be crazy not to.

Just updated to Obama 5,436, 74% to Clinton 1,875, 26%, with 26% of precincts reporting.
This is the route of a rout, if you ask me!

Yep. But, Lingle would be considered ‘RINO’ for many people here in FR. She’s a pro-choice, and backs domestic partnership for gays, etc.

Many Christians in Hawaii are DemocratsMaybe I was just going by the Christians I knew. I was in Kona with YWAM, which is a Christian missions sending organization. And most of the Christians I knew there were not liberals.

They may not be socially liberals, but as you mentioned, many people in HI love to talk about ‘caring for little guy’. This, for many people, are cue for socialism, or at least nanny state.

LOL. With defeats in Wash. state and Wisconsin tonight Hawaii makes it ELEVEN losses in a row for the Hildebeast!!!!! yippee
I know the prospect of Obama Hussein in the WH is also terrifying, maybe more so in some ways, but I can’t help but enjoy seeing Shrillary suffer the humiliation and anguish and embarrassment that she so richly deserves.
