"Barack Will Never Allow You to Go Back to Your Lives as Usual." (YES IT CAN get creepier)

"Barack Will Never Allow You to Go Back to Your Lives as Usual."

Last night I appeared on Hugh's show, and his producer Duane mentioned a Michelle Obama speech at UCLA. Captain Ed talked about this a bit, but I hadn't seen anyone transcribe the part of the speech where it gets a little... unnerving. It starts at about 8:41 in the audio.

Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.

I'm sorry, nowhere in the Constitution does it authorize the President of the United States to demand anyone shed their cynicism. And I'm all for people pushing themselves to be better, but I don't think the President demanding it is the way to go about it.

And what if we kind of like our lives as usual? What about Americans' freedom to be uninvolved and uninformed?

Darleen at Protein Wisdom transcribed what follows:

"You have to stay at the seat at the table of democracy with a man like Barack Obama not just on Tuesday but in a year from now, in four years from now, in eights years from now, you will have to be engaged."

Ah. Apparently apathy will be criminalized, then?

Does anybody on the left side of the aisle find this rhetoric a little creepy? Isn't this describing an authoritarian presidency way beyond anything George W. Bush has done or proposed?

Do the powers of the presidency really encompass everything Michelle says Obama wants and plans to do? Based on this rhetoric, isn't he actually running for messiah?

This guy is just pitifully naive, in love with himself, and will be totally ineffective.

I agree. That's why I'm pulling hard for him to get the nomination.

Actually, I’m thinking he’s talking about “re-education” camps for every “racist” who dares disagree with him.

It’s basic campaign BS rhetoric. How could any president make everybody become involved and informed? Not possible.

This mini-Mussolini will force me to vote for McCain

I think in the end Osama Obama will push a lot of people towards McCain, especially once they start to realize what a shallow, empty suit he really is.

When you outlaw cynicism, only outlaws will be cynical. Which will of course, make everyone else easier prey.

Barak finishes EVERY speech with " we will change America...and we will change the WORLD"...

Barak should try it in the original German.

“Who is scarier: Obama or Hillary?”

Obama is a Ted Kennedy liberal, packaged in the garb of a ‘new face’ that doesnt have the track record of older liberals. He’s 40 something .... Imagine facing another 30 years of his liberalism. Yikes.

He is far more dangerous, precisely because he is more eloquent and more liberal than Hillary. He is winning converts to vague promises that become a blank check for big govt and a PC left-liberal policy implementation.

The flip-side to this is the great benefit we get by
having Obama become a nominee that if we defeat in November - IF we defeat him, mind you - It’s a two-fer: He’s defanged and Hillary’s defanged. If Hillary is the nominee, then Obama becomes another “wait until your seasoned” candidates ready to run again.

they might even run Obama again in 2012, he’s their best guy .

Maybe McCain steps aside. Or maybe Obama waits 8 years.
Still, defeating Hillary would leave Obama on the loose.
Defeating Obama would be harder .... but it will have to be done. He is too dangerous not to.

John McCain can point out that Barack Obama opposed “letting people use a self-defense argument if charged with violating local handgun bans by using weapons in their homes. The bill was a reaction to a Chicago-area man who, after shooting an intruder, was charged with a handgun violation.” Hillary Clinton can’t.

John McCain can point out that Barack Obama sought to ban the sale of firearms at gun shows except for “antique” weapons. Hillary Clinton can’t.

John McCain can point out that Obama wanted to make it a felony if your gun is stolen from your residence and used in a crime, if the government determines you did not “securely store” the weapon. Hillary Clinton can’t.

John McCain can point out how Obama opposes a ban on partial birth abortion ban, and who voted against a bill that would require medical care for aborted fetuses who survive. Hillary Clinton can’t.

John McCain can point out how Obama was the only state senator to oppose a law that prohibited early prison release for sex offenders. For some reason, Hillary Clinton hasn’t.

John McCain can point out that Barack Obama has been rated the most liberal lawmaker in the U.S. Senate by National Journal. Hillary Clinton can’t.

Of course, this is just re-hashed Carter II with untenable expectations. But note, he has given himself an escape hatch: when change does not materialize, he will blame the people for the not sufficiently "changing from the bottom up." Malaise II.

Yes, Obama=Carter is a valid parallel. And I suspect he will have to wheel out the 'malaise' or other nonsense once his bad policies create recessions, backlash, etc. He will blame the people probably, for being too cynical.

What about his announcement (Saturday, was it?) that he wanted to tax "the rich" up to 50% of their income? Amazing to me that ANYONE would support him after announcing such an asinine plan.

"Oh! He wants to take more of my money? YES! YES!!! I can't WAIT to vote for him!"

??????!!!!!
