Rush Limbaugh, who has been critical of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), embraced him Thursday now that they have a common enemy: The New York Times.
Limbaugh and other conservative commentators rushed to defend McCain on Thursday against a potentially damaging article in The New York Times, embracing a maverick they have often attacked.
"You're surprised that Page Six-type gossip is on the front page of The New York Times?" Limbaugh asked as he began his radio show. "Where have you been? How in the world can anybody be surprised?"
Limbaugh said earlier in an e-mail to Politico that the Times article about McCains relationship with a female lobbyist was a clear case of "the drive-by media ... trying to take him out."
Laura Ingraham, another influential conservative radio host, asserted that the Times waited until McCain was on the brink of the Republican presidential nomination and now is seeking to "contaminate" him with an article that she calls "absurd" and "ridiculous."
CBN.org, the website of the Christian Broadcasting Network, calls an attack by the Times "a conservative badge of honor."
Ironically, a potentially damaging article about McCain may help bond him to conservatives, who are relishing the fact that he now needs them.
"Is he going to learn the right lesson from this? Limbaugh asked. The lesson is that liberals are to be defeated."
Limbaugh wrote in an e-mail to Politico: The story is not the story. The story is the drive-by media turning on its favorite maverick and trying to take him out. The media picked the GOP's candidate, the NYT endorsed him while they sat on this story and is now, with utter predictability, trying to destroy him.

“People are just too stupid to govern themselves.”
The overall dumbing down that has occurred hasnt helped, either.
Amen!
Zachary!
It will not.

Zachary! This leopard can't/WON'T change his spots!
I am sickened by the thought that SO MANY on OUR SIDE
have jumped on board the McRINO train.
:(
Anyway....
I went to MY POLLING PLACE on Wednesday and did the
early voting thing. I voted for Fred Thompson, too!!!
No NEED to write him in, either! He is STILL on the
ballot even though he dropped out. :^D
LOL! Great WAV file there.
hahahhahahaaaaaaa!
Me too. It's the old "If you lie down with dogs....".
I agree with you, 100%. I don't know if you've yet read joanie-f's post; it's a WONDERFUL post concerning McRino (though you may not agree 100% with her thoughts, she still has a most excellent anaylsis concerning votes for McShamnesty and a McRino presidency).

Good to hear that, meek! I won't be voting FT, but I will be voting a conservative, whether or not it must be a write-in.
More evidence that screwball commentators just don’t listen to Rush. I heard his program and I did NOT hear an “embracement” of McCain.
I just cannot vote for McCain. If the moderates and Dem lites happen to get him elected along with some weak conservatives, I will wait for the day. That day will be the day that Juan McCain, and his buddy Juan Hernandez, standing over McCain’s shoulder, while smiling that smug sh*t eatin’ grin, signs the amnesty bill into law.
Those that supported this fiasco of a candidate will be watching on their big screen HD plasma TV sets in horror. They might as well bend over, drop their drawers and take it. I surely will not listen to any complaints, it isn’t like they didn’t know better.
You are correct I believe. I think the problem is that I initially misunderstood the point that Kryptonite was making.
My apologies.
Spot on, indy! McShamnesty is truly horrific and he and his policies will destroy any kind of conservative policies left in America.
You'd think after saying the same thing for about a decade now, some folks would have understood that. ;-)
A very misleading headline.
McLame was here in Indianapolis this morning looking for money. My husband heard the townhall meeting and was totally disgusted.
He mentioned McCain was talking big on global warming, speaking about electric cars etc.
He also was asked by some woman to help her illegal husband stay in America. He dodged it by saying that people have said they want borders secure and then we will deal in a humane way.
My husband said all that McCain spent his time appealing to moderates, and had very little to say about conservative issues.
True to form!
With his finance co-chair in Arizona being indicted, he needs to branch out. ;-)
Funny thing is....my hubby wasn’t totally opposed to McCain until today.
He heard all he needed to hear and the empahsis on Global warming ittitated the hell out of him. LOL
I wonder if Juan McLame drove an electric car to the event? I wish he would have, maybe the freezing rain here would have given his 72 year old Democrat brain a jolt!
LOL
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
