My original comment was poorly thought out, and I’ll admit to that.

The problem is you use EXACTLY the same language that ever gun grabbing socialist organization out there uses. Right alone with their garbage statements like 'common sense gun laws'.

And I have heard that same language from other people that are somewhat conservative but don't lift a finger on gun issues. It is infuriating because it indicates buying into the premise that guns have to have a 'legitimate civilian purpose'. The point of the second amendment and the supreme court ruling in the 30's (not the 1700's) was that the real criteria is military use. The whole point of guns being a check on government tyranny is that the cops SHOULD fear that guns that are in civilan hands because those are what keeps them from abusing the populace. Liberals would love it if the only legal guns were so small they would bounce off the armored suits that all cops would be give. Because in that world they would be free to have total tyrannical power over the population while still tipping their hat to the constitution and mouthing garbage about 'common sense' and 'legitimate civilian use'.

Does this mean I cannot acknowledge my mistake and then move on from there? I agree with you and do not advocate banning any firearm. What more would you have me do?

That is the "man on the street" impression you get from a lot of folks who aren't "in" the "gun culture". They get most of their info second and third hand, sometimes even just from what they hear on the 6 o'clock news.

This isn't really their fault as they literally don't know any better. In those cases where we can change that perception, we need to seize the opportunity. It's why some of us do "take a friend to the range" days. Find a complete N3wbie and run 'em through a fun shoot. School 'em on basic safety and let them blast away some of your ammo supply.

I've changed more than one mind doing that. The Gods willing, I'll be able to do it again soon...
