You are correct Sir.

I pray that we get someone in charge with a plan.
GWB..I admire his moxie, but he has capitulated to the greens on energy, talking of alternate fuels and “swithchgrass”.

Oh, he made a case for ANWR but guess who won? The Greens. the nutty fruity greens. Shale oil was viable at $45 a barrel why aren’t we using it? we have more oil than all of the Middle East if we look to shale oil.

GWB worked a nuclear deal with India to bring them energy.
When did we last build a pebble bed reactor? oh, thats right we haven’t. we are importing 25% of our oil from Canada who is extracting it from tar sands(like shale oil) and we are making ethanol and importing illegals to keep the costs of production down while promising free tuition to their kids and denying our own children the same tuition.

I’m feeling gruntled

Youngsters are in no way prepared. They think life is an eternal shopping spree, with a cell phone glued on.

Not just a cell phone, a $700 Iphone. with a $150 month service charge

The increase in food prices because of ethanol production seems to me to be more of an adverse supply shock.

A/C costs are a problem. I planted palms to shade walls and windows, installed double pane windows, added extra insulation, a whole house fan. Did whatever I could to lower heat inputs that I had some control over. But that won’t work as well in TX as it does in coastal California. Adobe walls with their high thermal mass would be good.

“A massive quarterly jump in wholesale prices is not a monetary phenomenon,”

And you base this on what? M3? You think the money supply wasn’t growing at a high rate over recent years?

whoa.......there's some who say that there is no inflation....not the important kind I guess....

all I know is that milk, eggs, bread, fruit, and cereal have all gone up dramatically... meat has been high for a long while......

medical insurance....up every year....as well as car insurance, tuition, gasoline of course, and natural gas for furnaces....

just because cars and houses haven't gone up doesn't mean there is no inflation...people can't afford new houses and new cars because of all the other costs...

see $400 bucks a mo for AC coming this summer on a 1500 sq ft house with a new AC unit.

???? $400 per month? Way too much! I pay approximately $90 per month on 1700 sq ft.

It still boggles my mind how you can have inflation during a recession,

Easy:
1. Massive Government debt
2. Government printing $$ like there’s no tomorrow
3. Record trade deficits
4. Low interest rates
5. Low savings rates

True in some terms. However, inflation is here and has been here for well over 3 years now and I am not including imported clothes, electronics, toys, furniture, etc.

Economists call the disease "stagflation," and they're worried it might be coming back.

You know, I've been thinking, Travis, with all those "proclamations" made by Bernanke, Greenscam & Co., they should hire someone like Baghdad Bob. The propagandist would be just as effective.

How do you know we are not in a recession yet?

Even by your own definition, a recession is 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth. That can only be known to have occurred some time after the 6 months of negative GDP is known. But that is only when the period is DEFINED, not when it occurs.

We may very well have begun a period of negative economic growth that will go on for 2 full quarters, and therefore be identified as such 6 months or more from now.

Saying we are not in a recession is sort of like seeing massive flood tides beating on the dikes protecting New Orleans and saying “but it hasn’t flooded yet.”

I understand your point, that a recession can’t be known in real time. I wish you understood my point, that the economy is in serious trouble and the liquidity crisis, the lack of wealth effect, crashing home prices, soaring inflation, and skyrocketting energy costs are overwhelming the economy and there is a very real expectation of recession, which just possibly has begun.

And without a doubt, this is the MSM screaming at the top of their lungs to get their side elected. No doubt at all. But sometimes they don’t even have to lie and this is one of those times. The economy is tanking. This is a lucky break for the LibComDems, not a manufactured conspiracy.

MSM is just taking full advantage of what Bush gave them by pushing the recession off instead of allowing a deeper recession after the tech bubble collapsed. We could be in a nice recovery right now if he and Greenscam hadn’t replaced the collapsed tech bubble with the artificially induced housing bubble.

Thanks, McGee. Now I’m completely depresses. Good thing I put tens of thousands of miles traveling around the USA on my motorcycles when gas was only $2.

I don’t expect to see long gas lines, though. I think lines are going to be very short when gas hits $4.50 a gallon. Shorter at $5.00. I don’t think we will see $6.

Youngsters are unprepared? Well... true. But what about all the Social Security dependent who have no retirement savings or pension. Inflation is going to flatten them. At least youngsters have the time and motivation to change their evil ways.

You have to have a definable metric in order to have a recession. You just cannot proclaim it.

If we are in recession, it’s media created.
