BREAKING - Tom McClintock to Announce Tuesday Morning in Auburn, CA Posted by Aaron Park on February 27, 2008 at 04:08 PM

The long anticipated entry of State Senator Tom McClintock into the race for the 4th Congressional District is reality.

At 10AM Tuesday March 4th, 2008, on the steps of the same historic courthouse in Auburn, CA where Doug Ose announced a couple of weeks ago… Tom McClintock will officially launch his campaign.

Rico Oller will be discontinuing his campaign for the 4th CD and will be endorsing Tom McClintock for Congress.

The CRA will be able to convene quickly and transfer their endorsement and the Club for Growth is widely expected to transfer their support as well.

Ose has trumpeted several local endorsements and has been promoting them in a variety of media.

Doug Ose has spent an estimated $300,000 of the nearly $500,000 warchest he had left over from 1998. (money exempted from McCain-Feingold.) Despite an agressive campaign and this expenditure, Ose has gained little or no traction in polling.

Currently, Doug Ose is in Washington, DC trying to rally support from skeptical former colleagues.

McClintock has 70% name ID in the 4th CD and numbers he has show him with 60% support amongst likely voters in the 4th CD.

This stands in stark contrast to Doug Ose who claims a 10% lead over Rico Oller and being dead even with Charlie Brown. (source – Ose for Congress Website)

McClintock’s entry into the race will remove the 4th Congressional from all national target lists.

Thanks again.

I think we should suggest to Jim that we put Tom’s and other Conservatives running fund-raising info at the top of FR.

We need to get serious about campaigning and money raising for these candidates.

This would be a good start, and a way to familiarize Freepers with who is running, in what State, for what office.

We need serious activism because we are getting smoked by Move-On and other such groups.

Thanks for the ping, cowgirl!

Well, I like Tom and I did find out that there is no colusion to keep him out of the state's RINO's hair....just a will to win.

He's a good man, so I'm happy to keep him in office and at least still fighting for us here in CA

I totally agree that we need to familiarize ourselves with conservatives across the U.S.

This is a start to getting a conservative back in the WH!

I did find out that there is no colusion to keep him out of the state's RINO's hair....just a will to win.

I would interpret that to mean that the CAluvdubya account checked within the CAGOP hierarchy and confirmed that the CAGOP encouraged the senator to enter the national race in the 4th District, not trying to get rid of McClintock at the state level but, in fact, in a sincere effort to keep the 4th in the GOP column.

If that statement has even a grain of truth, the Wilsonegger Gang did it grudgingly after much pressure from the RNC under the theory of any port in a storm.

I point to the FlashReport to support my point. If Jon, a highly partisan convertible man, had promoted McClintock in the 4th these past two weeks, then the CAluvdubya statement might be true. But Jon has been silent. A sure sign that McClintock was either shoved down Wilsonegger's throat or the gang was told to keep their mouths shut.

“Looks like he’s gonna do it.”

I hope so. Team McClintock sent me a fundraising e-mail yesterday saying he was leaning towards entering the race, and I sent him $20; I would hate for him to use the money for some other campaign.

“Sources at RedCounty.com: MCCLINTOCK PULLS PAPERS”

Does that mean that McClintock decided not to file? I couldn’t find that on redcounty.com. I did find this new article, critical of McClintock, in which one of the comments says that the person heard that McClintock had decided to run and that Rico Oller would be dropping out.

http://www.redcounty.com/placercountyca/2008/02/thanks-but-no-thanks-tom/

Has anyone heard anything about Oller dropping out? Obviously a comment with no attribution as to source is not trustworthy.

No, this means he received the necessary papers from the Registrar of Voters. They now need to be filled out and returned. It’s a pretty well-known fact now that Oller is out upon Tom’s entry.

Thanks for the clarification.

I was not aware that Oller would drop out if McClintock ran-—I had heard that England would drop out, though.

If it’s McClintock vs. Ose, it should be a no-brainer for conservatives. Unlike Oller, whose record is as conservative as McClintock’s, Ose is a pro-abortion, big-government RINO.

Yeah Oller will be at the announcement from what I hear. Along with Egland.

Questions:

1. Summarize Doug Ose’s politics. Last snapshot I had of him is in the 2004 Almanac Of American Politics, which had Ose as an “80% conservative” or so, based on various ratings, as a 3-term House member for the 3d Distict. (Ose does not live in the 4th CD, but then, he doesn’t have to, legally.)

2. I see that Ose honored his pledge to serve only 3 terms in the House. Query whether his running in the 4th CD breaks that promise. (Granted, this is an unusual situation, because we have the incumbent, Doolittle, not-running-again due to scandal.)

3. Does McClintock live in the 4th CD? Again, legally one need not live in the CD to represent it, so long as one is a resident of the state. Just curious.

Anyway, go Tom go!

I’m not sure what you were trying to tell me but I took it that you were being rather sarcastic, figuring I don’t know a thing within the McClintock camp... Think what you will. I figure you are only guessing as to what’s going on while I am not.

What I was trying to convey to the CAluvdubya account and others less familiar with our local politics is:

1) The CAluvdubya account appears more partisan than conservative.
1) The CAGOP has been hindering, not assisting Senator McClintock.
3) Any blessing by the GAGOP, conferred upon McClintock, has been forced upon the CAGOP by the RNC, as the Republican Caucus struggles to remain relevant at the national level.

Sorry. No peaches and cream.

Just an abiding dislike and mistrust of partisans who attempt to utilize this forum as a house organ.

I don’t know the district, but someone on this thread said it’s a Republican district.
