Bullet Dodged (Help Obama take Texas)

Those of us who think the Clintons would be an easy kill, and I admit that I am often one of them, tend to forget how good the Clintons can be when it comes to convincing large numbers of Americans to see things their way. Hillary’s continued implosion has erased from our memories the cool, confident, non-ideological, practical, managerial Eisenhower Republican who took part in every Democratic presidential debate in 2007, back before Obamania seemed to be a threat. But while Hillary continues to jump from one personality to another in a quixotic effort to take down the media’s wonder boy, her husband continues to remind us just what we’ll face in the fall should Clinton manage to clinch the nomination.

In contrast to the tripe that usually emanates from the mouth of Barack Obama, Bill Clinton’s speech was heavy on policy and light on platitudes. Clintonian triangulation is alive and well at the Clinton policy shop, where each plan combines a liberal solution with a conservative temperament all packaged in dispassionate centrism and delivered with the aura of common sense. Example: according to the former president, we have to end the war in Iraq so that we can continue to fight Islamic terrorists in places like Afghanistan, though we can’t exit in a way that creates a bigger problem than the one we have now. Another example: free trade is good, but the folks we trade with are also our creditors, so let’s balance the budget so that we no longer need creditors and then we can demand fairer trade rules. Each policy consists of a touch of liberalism and a dash — just a dash — of conservatism. And all is framed in a pragmatic, technocratic, make-the-trains-run-on-time manner. There’s no revolution here. Just a couple running to be the country’s CEOs. Clinton even somehow managed to make the case to this Texas crowd that American indebtedness with mortgages and students loans is actually a good thing; these are investments in our future, you see, and a stronger economy will eviscerate the nation’s present angst. It’s a speech that could easily have been given by any centrist Democrat or Republican. And it’s exactly the sort of political animal that Hillary will become should she garner a majority of Democratic delegates in Denver. I’m not sure that even John McCain could beat the Clintons in full Eisenhower jacket. But thanks to Democratic primary voters, we’re about to face the latest incarnation of Adlai/McGovern/Dukakis instead. And we all know how that story ends.

Democrats are about to reject a candidate who knows how to win national elections against the Republicans, and one who is competitive in Florida and Ohio and who locks down the Northeast, in favor of a candidate who has won a single national election in his entire career, and who is not competitive in Florida, is weak in Ohio, and who makes the Northeast purple. They’ve got a choice between Gore in a pantsuit and an African-American George McGovern and they’re choosing the latter.

This pretty much sums up why every conservative in Texas who wishes to influence the 2008 election strategically should vote for Obama. I too saw Bill Clinton on C-Span last night and anyone who thinks she would be easier to beat than Obama is buying into the MSM hype. All Hillary needs to do is hold the states Kerry won (which is eminently possible and flip Ohio (again eminently possible) and she is President. It is virtually impossible for Obama to do either. Not only will Obama be easier to beat, the downdraft from the landslide will bring in a number of conservative members of Congress and Senators who will influence McCain in a more conservative direction. (and help confirm the crucial fifth vote on the Supreme Court).

I agree. If we have a chance to oust the Clintons once and for all and we don’t take it, we will regret it later.

I agree. Get the Clintons out of the race once and for all, and deal with Obama later. I may later regret this advice, but I just can’t stand them.

There is no doubt that Obama is an empty suit and the shine is already wearing off. If the Clintons get the nomination, it will be another nail-biter like the last two elections but if Obama gets it, we could see a GOP landslide of Reaganesque proportions.

Obama has already painted himself into a corner in his appeals and promises to the far-left wing of the Democratic party. For instance, his pledge to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq immediately is fatal in itself (especially when we see the continuing progress in Iraq as the year goes on.) This guy is a Marxist whack-job and I can only hope he can hang in there a little longer so that the Clintons have to drop out of the race.

If she wins the nomination, no one will remember Texas or Ohio ,only that she is the nominee.

Rush Limbaugh is being too clever by half in advocating a vote for Clinton, unless he really does want her to win. And believe me, she can win. Obama cannot.

I believe once Hillary wins or steals the convention, all those polls showing McCain beating her by 10 points will switch the other way. She will be crowned the comeback kid and nothing will stop her.

I think the MSM already has that script written and in the can. But she has to win Texas first. Republicans can and should cross over there to defeat her once and for all.

Very Very True. End it now............

We both voted in Fla for Mitt, and have moved on to support McCain.

If we were living in Texas (which we have in the past) we would be voting Obama to kill her / bills chances.

Yes, I include Bill, as most people forget that there’s a sizable % of Hillary supporters that truly believe 2 for 1 and in the insurance policy they think he offers for her experience.

Keep chaos alive! Help Hillary win one more state and she is in it until at least late April. Meaning the Democrats will continute to spend money against each other and continue to bloody each other up

And believe me, she can win. Obama cannot.

Assuming that the Democrat base is united behind either Hillary or Obama, and that the media will eagerly help either to win, what voters can Hillary draw that Obama fails to reach?

Good post. I am somewhat more pessimistic about the results of a Clinton v McCain - although I don’t care one whit for either of them.

My take on a it is a 30 state democrat win along with serious repercussions in the downticket.

Anyone who believes otherwise would be well advised to look at the collapse of GOP and RNC fund raising efforts vis a vie the Democrats free flow of money and enthusiastic support.

For the moment, all is well because they are using this cash to beat on each other, but when it all comes together for the dems we are in real trouble if Clinton prevails.
My original take was 30 -34 states, but I am sticking to the low end for the moment.

We are in trouble with Obama, as well, but his candidacy has intrinsic flaws that are easily exploited and give the GOP and McCain a God sent fighting chance.

All my opinion of course.

Those who hope for a fight at the Dem convention are dreaming. Clinton will wrestle the nomination from Obama and her vast array of party loyalists will muscle the party into submission for her. Reports of her simply dropping out are premature. She is too shrewd and dishonest a political anaimal to let anyone take the prize from her.

Some say Obama is more formidable than Clinton. Obama’s support is a mile wide, but only an inch deep. He’s the newest thing in a culture that values newness. But his lack of substantial matter will soon be exposed and he will not be able to recover.

A decisive win by Obama in Texas and Ohio can dislodge the Beast from the nomination. Now is the time to take her out politically. It WILL be the last time Americans can rid themselves of the Clinton scourge.

If Her Heinous gets the nomination, she will destroy McCain, personally and electorally. With the massive vote fraud that her minions will commit on her behalf in the inner cities, McGovern and Mondale will wind up laughing at McCain on Nov. 5th.

McCain’s only hope is to have Obama as the candidate he runs against.

Those who wish for Hillary to run against McCain instead of Obama will ensure eight more years of a Clinton administration. Eight years almost destroyed this country.

Think hard about the choices you make in TX and OH tomorrow. The future of our country depends on it.

True, but in that case we can’t beat either of them. - Or perhaps any democrat at all. - With McCain.

“Assuming that the Democrat base is united behind either Hillary or Obama, and that the media will eagerly help either to win, what voters can Hillary draw that Obama fails to reach?”

The Dem base is not united behind Obama. Working class whites have not been receptive to him, nor have Jewish voters. That is why Obama is losing to McCain in polls even now at the height of his hype in New Jersey, Florida (by double digits) and in Ohio. Much of the country does not know about his far left positions on gun control and abortion, which will turn Michigan and Pennsylvania into red states if he is the nominee.

Lots and lots of them.

Many people simply are not going to vote for someone that far left and in the open about it. - The whole thing smells of Dean with a bit more polish.

And many people of different races are simply not going to vote for a black man. - What does “La Raza” mean again?

Many people want more experience.
Many many people will vote for Clinton that will not vote for Obama - we even had a disgusted refugee from Massachusetts sign on FR to say that he would bolt the party and vote MCCAIN if hillary is not nominated.

Many, many people, and I also discount the so called “youth vote” almost in toto.

I hope every voter in Ohio and especially Texas (which is a wide open primary in which anyone can vote) reads your post. Hillary has to be defeated tomorrow or I am afraid she will come back.
