Terri Schiavo's Family Launches New Radio Program on Protecting the Disabled
Life News ^ | 3/6/08 | Steven Ertelt

Tampa, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The foundation that Terri Schiavo's family created after her death is continuing its efforts to help the elderly and disabled obtain appropriate medical care. The foundation is launching a new radio program on a Tampa station that will be simulcast on the Internet and later expanded to other Florida stations.

The Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation will start the new America's Lifeline program this weekend life from the Tampa studios of Talk Radio 860 WGUL, a Christian station.

Prominent radio health care advocate Cary Hall will co-sponsor the program along with Terri's brother Bobby Schinder and her sister Suzanne Vitadamo, the foundation's directors.

Hall is also the host of a successful radio show called The Health Insurance Advocate which broadcasts from two Midwest stations.

"America's Lifeline is something we've wanted to do for some time," Vitadamo told LifeNews.com on Thursday.

"With Cary Hall's health care expertise my family's experience trying to save Terri, and now running her foundation which works to save those like Terri, we'll be able to educate Americans and raise awareness about the euthanasia movement like never before," she added.

Vitadamo said the program would focus on controversial cases of people who have been subjected to potential euthanasia or denial of lifesaving medical treatment, such as Lauren Richardson in Delaware.

It will help people learn about the best advanced directives for treatment, learn about the dangers of assisted suicide, focus on state and federal laws and explain how hospice care can be helpful.

The program will also delve into the controversial futile care theory whereby hospitals and doctors are more routinely giving up on providing care for patients they consider "too far gone."

The America's Lifeline debut is set for 3 PM EST on Saturday, March 15, 2008 and it will also be streamed worldwide via the Internet at http://860wgul.townhall.com.

The program is poised to expand into other Florida radio markets including Orlando and Miami.

We think often about Dominique. She is a hallmark of courage, and an example of how we should live. We look to saints for the inspiration she radiates. An amazing thing is how one can pose any question at all to her and she has the precise answer from the Bible to quote for it.

She carried me a number of times when I was too week to stand.

Haleigh Poutre update...Haleigh's Amendment...

...........................

I'd like to thank Sen. Scott Brown, R-Wrentham, for his leadership in addressing a serious issue in the aftermath of a terrible tragedy.

In early 2007, following the controversy of the Haleigh Poutre case, I contacted his office to ask that he file legislation to prevent those who had injured a person from serving as that person's health care proxy.

The Poutre case highlighted this important issue because the foster father of the girl was accused of inflicting the injuries that incapacitated her, and subsequently started legal action to be allowed to make health care decisions for her.

His interest was suspected to be in keeping Haleigh alive to avoid a murder charge, but in other circumstances an abuser might want to "finish the job" by having the health care facility withdraw treatments.

In short, it is axiomatic that health care professionals cannot trust that an abuser would consider his or her victim's interests or desires as paramount...........

Attention shifts to Pennsylvania...

.........................

.- As the last major primary state for the Democratic Party presidential contest and a contested state in the general election, Pennsylvania Catholics could play a key role in determining the presidential race.

The Bulletin reports that there are nearly 3.8 million Catholics in the state, 31 percent of the total population.

“What rights have any value if you do not have the right to life?\" she asked. \"Only if you are 100 percent pro-life will I look to other issues.\"

Coll referenced Senator Obama’s regrets about supporting the Senate’s move to save the life of Terry Schiavo, the disabled woman whose feeding tube was removed by court order. She died of dehydration soon afterward................

The Obama Nation vs. Terri's Legacy...

.................................

In none of the endless presidential candidates' debates has there been a meaningful discussion of the rights of disabled Americans. However, in the Feb. 26 debate in Cleveland, Barack Obama casually and ignorantly revealed his misunderstanding of the basic issue in the highly visible and still-resonating official death sentence of a disabled woman, Terri Schiavo. I repeatedly have called her death the result of "the longest public execution in American history."

When moderator Tim Russert asked Hillary Clinton and Obama if "there are any words or votes that you'd like to take back ... in your careers in public service," Obama answered that in his first year in the Senate, he joined an agreement "that allowed Congress to interject itself (in the Schiavo case) into the decision-making process of the families."

Obama added: 'I think that was a mistake, and I think the American people understood that was a mistake. And as a constitutional law professor, I knew better."...................

Catholics will be repelled by B.O...

...........................

I don't want Senator Obama to win -- our political positions are too far apart -- but I do want both political parties to understand the Catholic voter.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Inside Catholic) - I am writing this unsolicited memo to help the Obama campaign understand the Catholic vote.

It has been the practice of Democratic presidential candidates, including former Vice President Al Gore and Sen. John Kerry, to enlist the help of well-known Catholic dissenters as advisers to their campaigns (no need to name names). As a result, the Democratic presidential candidates have failed to understand Catholic voters, much less connect with them.

~Snip~

The candidate's decision in a televised debate to call his vote on Terri Schiavo a "mistake" turned off many sympathetic Catholic voters -- especially young people -- displaying an amazing lack of insight regarding the Catholic voter. Again, it suggests he is getting bad advice.

Senator Obama will have to stretch himself to reach Catholic voters, and should not deceive himself into thinking that he's a "natural" for them. He needs to be himself, act humbly toward social conservatives, and acknowledge the differences while looking for places where he can connect with them.

Three years ago today...

From RenewAmerica:

.........................

From Dan Rather's credible reporting about President Bush's National Guard service prior to the November 2004 election, to writing a prewritten story about Terri Schiavo's death, CBS has proved to be America's most credible news service.

Most Americans, by now, are familiar with the Terri Schiavo story.

The story of Terri is heart-breaking. In 1990, doctors claim Terri suffered a heart-attack causing her to collapse for minutes without oxygen getting to her brain. As a result, Terri has been perceived by many to be in a "permanent vegetative state."

For 15 years, Terri's husband Michael and her parents Bob and Mary Schindler have been involved in legal battles concerning Terri.

On March 18, 2005 Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, which sustained her life for 15 years, was removed. As of this writing, Terri Schiavo has been without her feeding tube for approximately 12 days...................

Stirring thread by paleorite with thanks for the ping to 668 - Neighbor of the Beast and wagglebee.

Feelings about Nancy Grace aside, this story of how an 11-year-old Wisconsin girl slipped into a diabetic coma and died because her parents sat around praying rather than seeking medical attention for her--as relatives had been begging them to do for weeks--is horrifying. Though the parents insist they don't regard themselves as religious, they also note that laying on of hands is their preferred method of healing in general.

With apologies to similar believers everywhere, my first reaction to this is, Wow, these people are some kind of crazy. My second reaction: time to consider a little court-negotiated sterilization.....

Pro-life progress in a thread by wagglebee...

......With news items like these over the last two weeks, it would be easy to be discouraged about the advancement of the right to life both here and abroad. Certainly, we all know that pro-abortion groups and their sympathizers need to have their reality checked but they would rather continue on their merry way denying the facts.

But for the rest of us who are not living in a warped fairy-tale, it’s clear that all of the pro-abortion policies in the world have not fixed any of the problems we face today............

The death lovers must be saddened. Here we may find benefits in the umbilical cords without even having to butcher the little baby. Thread by wagglebee.

TAMPA, FL, March 27, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Targeted immune suppression using human umbilical cord blood cells may improve the pathology associated with Alzheimer's disease, a new study in a mouse model of this currently untreatable neurodegenerative condition reports. The study, led by researchers at the University of South Florida, is published online in the peer-reviewed journal Stem Cells and Development (http://www.liebertpub.com/scd).

Following a series of low-dose infusions of human umbilical cord blood cells into mice with Alzheimer's-like disease, the amount of amyloid-ß and ß-amyloid plaques - hallmarks of Alzheimer's pathology in the brain - was reduced 62 percent. Amyloid-ß induces an inflammatory response in the brain associated with the interaction of CD40 and CD40L, two pro-inflammatory molecules. Researchers also reported an astonishing 86-percent improvement in cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), another hallmark of Alzheimer's disease. CAA compromises the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, disrupting normal trafficking of various molecules and cells from and to the brain and is believed to be the main culprit for the brain inflammation observed in Alzheimer's....

Chuck Schumer planned the scheme to have so-called “pro-life” Dems run against Republicans so the Dems could control Congress, and it worked.

Voters are so naive.

That’s why I call talk shows and write editor’s letters to let as many people as I can, know what candidates stand for.

Court turns thumbs down on the innocent life of Terri. Let her die.

All my life it was drummed into me we are a land of laws and we must obey, the presumption that the law is always right and just superseding reason. The courts show here how far we have come without even realizing it.

The law is the law, don't we know. Judges make the law and decide what the rest of us are to accept. Perhaps our Founding Fathers thought the Judiciary would be held in check by our system of balances, but not these days, the Judiciary is more equal than the the other balances.

Three years ago today, the atmosphere at Pinellas Park was solemn and hollow. Poor Terri had defied them all by proving to be incredibly healthy and strong, holding out for 12 days without a single drop of water, a feat few of us could muster, but she was weakening. Our hopes for her here on earth were dashed by the system of the courts, establishing for any still not realizing, they control, and if an innocent life may be sacrificed to prove it, well, it is the law.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Infamous euthanasia activist Dr. Jack Kevorkian has announced that he plans to run for U.S. Congress as an independent in Michigan’s 9th congressional district.

In order to be placed on the ballot, Kevorkian will need to obtain 3,000 signatures.
