Vanity: Oh, No! Obama Pastor Says Something Which Makes Sense!!
March 17, 2008 | John Lofton, Recovering Republican

Posted on 03/17/2008 7:54:33 PM PDT by NotChosenName

It was a horrible, shocking, unnerving experience. Reading some of the things Barack Obama's pastor has said, I suddenly saw something with which I completely agree!! He said five days after 9/11: "We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye...." His point: Chickens were coming home to roost. I agree. We certainly committed terrorism and murder when we dropped two atomic bombs on open cities in Japan. And, as Ron Paul has said, correctly, re: 9/11: The terrorists were over here because, first, we were over there in their part of the world sticking our nose into fights none of our business. Finally, none other than God Himself tells us in Galatians 6:7: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

I wonder if this guy had this “chickens coming home to roost” attitude when Pat Robertson made the same comment.

Anyone who relies on Wright and Ron Paul for pronouncements on foreign policy and national security is insane. Period.

The only thing the reverend said that makes sense is...

“Bill did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky”

“You did the right thing. You know the Japanese attitude at that time, how fanatic they were, they’d die for the Emperor...Every man, woman, and child would have resisted that invasion with sticks and stones if necessary...Can you imagine what a slaughter it would be to invade Japan? It would have been terrible. The Japanese people know more about it than the American public will ever know.”

Japanese pilot Mitsuo Fuchida in a conversation with Paul Tibbets.

A sad thing with ample precedent, e.g. Paul Craig Roberts.

Lofton is an idiot. Has it occurred to him just how many Japanese would have died in an invasion of Japan? Extrapolating from the invasion of Okinawa we are looking at 400,000 American Dead and 5 to 10 million dead Japanese, depending on the number of civilaisn involved in suicidal attacks and suicide to flee the Americans. The 210,000 Japanese killed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, though sad saved millions of people and the destruction of Japan.

I suspect the 5-10 million figure is low. We had complete control of the air over Japan. There is not one drop of oil or coal mined in Japan. Before we sent one soldier to Japan we would have fire bombed every city in Japan. Their industry and medical facilities would become non existent. Hunger and disease would have killed millions. We would have then killed millions more when we invaded.

The atomic bomb saved Japan from total destruction.

Sometimes I wish history was really well taught and that war would be discussed analytically rather than emotionally. War offends some sensibilities, true; but tyranny and domination offends all humanity.

OK, Maybe some of your comments were a little harsh or unwise. FreeRepublic is a conservative web site, but more and more of us are easing towards a more progressive perspective.

Mr. Robinson is pretty hard-headed, but it is his site. Change will come, but it must be done slowly. Slowly we have to convert more members to our kinder, gentler "progressive" beliefs.

Some times after reading for a length of time on this site, we progressives just need a karmic hug. So if you feel frustrated, join us in a hug at our alternate site.

Actually Japan had coal. It used to produce 50 million tons, but I think it is rapidly depleting it reserves and is currenlt mining under 20 million tons per anum.

Wow. Sometimes it's instructive to attempt to follow the logic of a diseased mind. Seldom pleasant, but instructive. If I understand Wright's, and hence Lofton's, line of reasoning here it is that the 9/11 WTC atrocity was some sort of weird karmic retaliation for Hiroshima and Nagasaki, albeit half a century and half a world distant and between two different parties. The connection is no murkier than the stuff between the two gentlemen's ears.

Bin Laden was very clear why he murdered 3000 people in a flaming holocaust. Unfortunately his own reasoning was as turbid as Lofton's. That we were on "sacred" Saudi soil by invitation and to guarantee its safety in the face of a rampaging lunatic seems to have escaped him just as it escapes Lofton. That, according to Lofton's quoting of Ron Paul, we were "sticking our nose into fights none of our business" strikes me as a rather lame rationalization for 3000 Americans dead in New York. Paul was a fool for attempting the comparison and Lofton a fool for parroting it.

There is something greasy and contemptible in this sanctimonious buffoonery. We were wrong to oppose Saddam in his little putsch but had we not, we'd also have been wrong to allow it. This isn't criticism, it isn't thought, it's a playground game in which the critic is never wrong. Lofton ought to be embarrassed for penning this fetid little piece if he had any shame left in him.

Uhhh...yeah...righto!

As others stated the obvious logical/historical fallacies of your screed let me just add that joining nine days ago, posting vanities without labeling said post as a vanity and listing a supposed resume of being a long time Republican (now in recovery) comes across as fraudulent.

You’re like the guy that starts his first day of work and tries to convince everyone that he is their best friend when in reality nobody knows a damn thing about him which therefore makes him come off as phony and suspicious.

As of this point, my gut feeling is: go away!
