A National Discussion on Race Hurt Obama?

It wasn’t when he posed the rhetorical questions: “Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church?”

The real question, of course, is not why Obama joined Trinity, but why he stayed there for two decades, in the flock of a pastor who accused the U.S. government of “inventing the H.I.V. virus as a means of genocide against people of color,” and who suggested soon after 9/11 that “America’s chickens are coming home to roost.”

But orators often ask themselves the convenient questions, not the difficult ones. And Barack Obama is an accomplished orator.

A local talk radio show host where I live commended Obama for his speech because the talk show host because he felt Obama addressed the race problem head on. He has been taken to the wood shed by callers and emails since last week. He doesn't want to talk about it anymore. This from a person who repeatedly tell his listeners he is a conservative!

The problem for Obama is that furor over Wright has reached beyond voters normally interested in political controversies. Over the past week, I have been asked repeatedly by non-political people about Obama’s connection with Wright’s tirades. In the process, Obama’s political persona has been altered—transformed from Harvard Law Review to South Side activist, as described by one friendly Chicago politician.

Precisely. Obama chose a career in Chicago race-identity politics, instead of any other career path he could have taken after his years at Harvard.

All the psychobabble in the world notwithstanding, Obama is quite simply a virulent, angry racist who cannot rise above the color of his own skin. It’s a problem not uncommon in the black race. Whites, in general, long ago confronted and overcame the pigmentation orientation. Blacks need to do so, if they ever intend to rise above destructive tribalism.
