McCain says he believes U.S. is in a recession (Gives into MSM Doom and Gloom - DOLT alert!)

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Monday that he believes the country is in a recession, adding that “these are very, very tough times in America.”

“Americans are hurting today,” McCain said at an Associated Press forum in Washington, D.C. “They’re hurting in the towns and cities across America. They’re sitting around the kitchen table, saying, ‘Are we going to be able to make our home loan mortgage payments? Are we going to be able to -- do I have to try to get a second job? Can I keep my job? Why was I laid off?’”

While McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said he thinks the country is in a recession, he noted that he is more worried about helping people who are facing “enormous challenges,” rather than figuring out what the technical definition of a recession is.

The senator indicated that both Congress and President Bush are partly responsible for the situation, but argued that others are also playing a role.

“I think that there’s plenty of that blame to go around, including very greedy people that happen to be in Wall Street today ... like the CEO of Bear Stearns who decided the day before he was bailed out by the federal government to cash in millions of dollar's worth of stock,” he stated, adding that there needs to be “a lot more accountability” on Wall Street.

Not a “dolt”,....Actually, a LOT of famous economists agree with him.

Well apparently, he and the famous economists must have a crystal ball since we won’t really know if we’re in one until the end of the 2nd quarter of this year.

There are plenty of neutral sources that indicate a significant economic slow down. I don’t know why people can’t accept that W is a bad president when it comes to economics.

“I think that there’s plenty of that blame to go around, including very greedy people in Congress, state, and local government who keep raising taxes and ‘fees’.”

Fixed it

Would be wiser to see at LEAST one quarter of negative growth before proclaiming a recession...and even then it may very well not be true.

It is pretty clear that we are in a recession. He is just stating the obvious.

However, his comments about “greedy Wall Street” sound like those of a Marxist.

While I agree that Bush isn’t a fiscal conservative, I’d like you to explain how that has anything to do with the current economic slowdown.

that W is a bad president when it comes to economics.

Actually, the economy has been cranking for years under W. This despite a vicious war and constant attacks.

Every expansion runs out of steam eventually and we were due. Not his fault that we have a fuel supply problem, a Congress that cannot reduce spending or a population that behaves foolishly.

But he can predict the weather 150 years from now. Sheesh, we’re in trouble.

That giant sucking sound you hear is the capital flight from US industries. The politicians are making it clear that they are anti business and will blame all their problems on them.
The calvary ain’t coming, folks. Every time the government gets involved, it gets worse.
Remember the 70’s!!!!

I agree, but it's all predictions. No one knows for sure... It's defined as 2 quarters of negative growth, we haven't had one yet... He shouldn't be in the business of jumping on the doom-and-gloom bandwagon... Sure, things have slowed, but inflation's in check, unemployment is very low, interest rates are low, and retail sales came in the positive territory.

I don't call him a dolt based on this comment alone. I do it based on his amazing ability to try and out-lib the libs...

He's a disgrace, and I've almost reached the tipping point, where I really don't care of he wins or loses.

Based on what? The doom and gloom the MSM spits at us 24x7, to get the dems elected? Prove it.

When the CEO of Bear Stearns dumps his shares or hedge funds melt down while the investors get screwed something is wrong.
