Will the Democrats Commit Political Suicide?
Der Spiegel ^ | April 23, 2008 | Gabor Steingart in Washington, DC

Democratic voters just can't make up their minds between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. In Pennsylvania, they denied him victory but spared her defeat. It will be the job of the superdelegates to commit political murder -- but will it mean suicide for the party?

After the confetti has been shaken out of the hair and the party balloons have deflated, what is left from Tuesday's election night is a disturbing message: There is nothing to celebrate.

The winner is the loser. But the loser is not the winner. Clinton's victory was not big enough to snatch the nomination from Obama. But neither was his star power enough to woo the voters in the center.

It seems the race is jinxed: He was handed a defeat when he needed a victory, and she secured a victory when only an improbable triumph would have helped her.

Barring a miracle, Clinton's role at the Democratic Party convention in Denver in August will be limited to guest speaker. But Obama will go into the actual presidential election badly damaged.

On the night of Obama's first primary win, in the state of Iowa, this columnist wrote: "(Obama) has scant hope of reaching the White House. He's too young, too inexperienced, too vague, and for many Americans, too black. His magic words about the era of change, of hope, of an America he will unite -- all that will evaporate like morning mist."

This prediction was confirmed in Pennsylvania. The euphoria over the 46-year-old senator has until today only gripped 50 percent of Democratic voters -- who make up only a third of registered voters.

“Our biggest nightmare is if those two demons decide to join forces. IF, if hitlery loses the delegate count as per June 6 when the SCREAMER and the RAT big shots will demand a delegates vote before the convention, OSAMA will be their anointed one I believe THE SHE-DEVIL will concede and run as VP. I just don’t believe the VOMIT FROM HELL would go away quietly into the sunset without half of the marbles”!!

...they CAN’T run together! They’ve already torn each other to threads and each candidates followers expects nothing less than sole leader/czar/king/queen status.

gosh don’t you love it. Hearing the excuses for all of hussein obama’s gaffes and idiosyncracies is music to my ears.
The real problem for the dims is tony resko has a lot more life, more tapes of the terrorist profs, rev. wright has more tapes, his wife can’t talk for 90 seconds without saying something offensive and his position on the issues makes mcgovern look like goldwater.
My guess is he loses 49 states.

A morality play in all its splendor. To be sure, pass the popcorn, but then work and prey for a quick end to the vile evil this party and their stinking officials have wrecked on the people in this poor country.

No.

I agree. Let's enjoy the infighting while we can, because after the convention the media's one and only objective will be to unify their party, and the only way to do that is to attempt to make this election a referendum on Bush. That's what "change" really means.

A short, simple and correct answer. When election day comes, they will march to the polls and vote for the Democrat. They may hold their noses, but loyalty to the Democratic party is the supreme value for them. Don’t ask why - it is simply what they do.

It's the Clintons, not the future of the democrat party that matters to Bill and Hillary.

As much as Bill and Hillary have proven in the 90's that they are above the rule of law, and will do anything to obtain and maintain political power, they are proving and showing once again that their goals and objectives no matter how much they burn down the democrat political house is all that concerns and consumes them.

If the old hag were a gracious and responsible team member she'd bowed out a long time ago, instead she complains that she has to play Ginger Rogers to Fred Astaire because women are still discriminated against, which is complete nonsense while she waits for another stumble of Barack's to give her reason to stay in because she cannot close the deal. Ah, Hillary, how many young voters even know who Ginger Rogers is? Aren't you showing your age, dear?

Well, anyway, so she is happily damaging Barack along with Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, while Bill waggles his finger at reporters and spews four letter words asking why does he have to put up with this #@%+!, the democrat campaign rages on in nasty, bitter, smashmouth mudslinging beer swilling fashion. Hillary gains weight as Barack gets thinner. McCain, all he can do is keep smiling.

I hope so, as Republicans don’t seem to care much about defeating them.

Seen some of the ads that are being run against Obama?

One has him 'soft on gangs, soft on terrorism'

Another one in NC has him with Wright and linking his democratic supporters as 'being too radical for NC'.

Ofcourse, McCain didn't like the ads, but they are coming, whether he likes them or not.

No.

I think so.

I think they are coming to the realization that instead of two potential winners, they have two lemons who are going to split the party.

Some fraction of the Democratic Party is not going to support the other candidate which will give McCain a win.
