Scores have been caught trying to break past border controls...Unless I misremember my geography, the only land border the UK has is with Ireland. Were they trying to swim the English Channel or North Sea??

“Scores have been caught trying to break past border controls in recent weeks”
HUH?
You would think that they would have the exit door held wide open for them.

Hell:
Where the food is British.
The police are German.
The cars are French.
The lovers are Swiss.
And the whole thing is run by Italians.

Scotch eggs are delish! While I don't normally like desserts, I'm insane for the classic British ones. I'm partial to the bread pudding with hard sauce, trifles and the ever delightful sticky toffee pudding.
Traditional Brit cuisine is easy to make fun of, but nothing beats pub food IMOP. Ploughman's lunches, apple and stilton sandwiches -- lovely.
And the cream teas...
Okay, now I'm homesick (not really from the UK, but I lived there for a while and used to visit every year...)

“The food-I thought the food in the United Kingdom was quite good.”
Oh yes—the hot salted beef, the beef and Guiness pie, the roast chicken, the pasties...Yummy!!!!

I think that land border the Brits have is with Scotland, not Ireland.
According to no less an authority than a clan map I once saw in a souvenir shop, my ancestors own the south shore of Loch Ness.
If I can put together the cash I intend to travel there and check up on my monster.

Actually when I was talking about good food in the United Kingdom, I meant to say the very good meals served in Indian restaurants in the UK.
To: ExSafecracker
They also have a land border with Wales, but Scotland and Wales are both included in the term UK (as well as N. Ireland). Besides, Scotland has similar weather and the same healthcare system so it would not benefit them to step over the border into Scotland. Cui bono?

You might want to consider a parallel development program, using Roman or Medieval catapult technology.

Heresy!.
Being British, I grew up on and I love Wimpy’s.BK is ok, it is McDonald’s I avoid like the plague...
To: dynachrome
Maybe this is thwe solution to our problem. We can institute universal health care and turn up the air conditioners full blast in California.

Personally I prefer Wimpy to McDonald's certainly the bun is crisper and it is served on a proper plate not cardboard container.
Notice the chairs outside for smokers and this was December last year.

Hot salted beef I thought was jewish food not traditional British fare. I have only had that once in a Jewish resturant Golden Green exclusive Jewish residential area in London.
I have a tradition English roast dinner each Sunday IMHO even with all the variety we can now get including international food a simple roast dinner takes a lot of beeating.

One of the biggest problems is that most lower end restaurants serve pseudo American food and badly at that it is hard to find a real tradition English restaurant serving good English food.

To taste really good English food you need to find someone in Britain who still cooks traditional English meals and I can guarantee if find someone and get treated to their home cooking a lot of myths about English food will disappear.

I agree Wimpy is far better but more expensive and is more of restaurant probably not disimliar to the American dinner concept so take longer so often I settle for McDonald’s.

Is roast chicken on Sundays considered English as well?

Up until very recent years roast dinners were part of the English/British way of life on a Sunday whether it be chicken, pork, lamb or beef or even less frequent duck or at Christmas or Easter maybe goose.
We also serve it with roast potatoes and roast parsnips that are crisp and ooze just a little of meat fat if available or if not we tend to use either vegetable oil or duck or goose fat that supermarkets and butchers sell.
