LAUREN RICHARDSON - YOU CAN HELP!

It has been a source of ongoing sadness to read of the difficulties Lauren Richardson’s father has had over the course of the past several months. For those of you who are not familiar with her case, Lauren overdosed on heroin on August 28, 2006. She suffered oxygen deprivation and, as a result of the overdose, is now in a coma and unable to speak out for herself. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting a baby. Her parents honored what they knew would have been her wish and did all they could to keep her healthy and comfortable until the child was born. Today, though Lauren may not be aware of it, she is the mother of Ember Grace, who was born in February 2007.

Since the birth of her daughter, Lauren remains unable to speak of her concerns, but she has a loving father who is doing all he can to protect her from suffering the same fate as Terri Schiavo. However, Lauren’s mother, who has been named her legal guardian, is sadly not of the same opinion and is working with attorneys to pressure the courts to permit Lauren’s starvation.

Lauren’s father has kept hope alive, even at times when there appeared to be no hope in human terms. Lauren’s father is a man of hope in Christ and is dedicated to spending every breath he has on defending Lauren, regardless of what it might cost him in physical exhaustion and worldly goods. The most recent update for those concerned about Lauren tells us the following:

We struggle at times as we seek to share with the public the details of what is happening with Lauren because of the disagreement we have with Lauren’s mother. We cannot understand her reasoning in refusing a path of hope, healing and restoration for Lauren and insisting on causing her death by withholding food and water from her. The issue in Lauren’s case is the eternal truth that all people, no matter what their medical condition, bear the image of God and deserve basic care and an opportunity to be restored to health.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, has written about Lauren in an editorial earlier this year, "False Compassion," and is working closely with Lauren’s father in order to provide expertise that he is uniquely qualified to share during a trying time like this.

There are many links on the Life for Lauren web site that will assist you in tracking this case and learning who is supporting Lauren’s ongoing care and who is opposing it. More importantly, there is something you can do to express your concerns.

ACTION NEEDED NOW

The governor of Delaware, Ruth Ann Minner, is being asked by pro-life Americans across this nation to intervene in this case in order to save Lauren from what many fear is an imminent court order dictating that Lauren be starved and dehydrated to death. I am asking you to be one of those who communicates your passionate belief that Lauren’s life is sacred and deserves to be protected from those who would order her death. The governor’s e-mail address is governor.minner@state.de.us.

Further, it would mean a great deal to Lauren’s father, Randy, if you sent him a copy of your e-mail to Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Randy’s e-mail address is Lifeforlauren@aol.com

During a recent visit to Anchorage, Alaska where Bobby Schindler was invited to speak, he told a reporter from The Catholic Anchor, "Once we accept that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, we lose any type of parameters. Euthanasia is a form of abandonment. It is not compassion."

Truer words were never spoken. As I frequently tell people who argue that we pro-lifers are being heartless and cruel for fighting to defend the rights of a "hopeless case," "God is the author of every human being’s life, and He has never given permission to a single one of us to arbitrarily rob another human being of life for any reason including disability or illness."

As Flannery O’Connor once wrote on the subject of false compassion, "In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber."

Lauren Richardson is not terminal – she is severely disabled. Lauren Richardson should not be murdered.

Prayer, as you recommend, instructs me that civil servants--Jeb Bush would be one--often sacrifice human life for political expediency.

And it is the sentences in the Declaration of Independence that follow this and are far less known, but equally as powerful, that give us a course of action (added emphasis is mine):

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

Here are some statutes and laws that would help the governor of Delaware to save the life of Lauren Richardson from court ordered starvation and dehydration:

§1. Governor to be supreme executive.

Section 1. The Supreme executive powers of the State shall be vested in a Governor.

Governor Minner has Supreme executive power. She has the power to influence the Delaware Legislature to create a “Check” in system to prevent to starvation and dehydration of Lauren Richardson.

§20. Trial by court of issues of fact in civil causes.

Section 20. In civil causes where matters of fact are at issue, if the parties agree, such matters of fact shall be tried by the court, and judgement rendered upon their decision thereon as upon a verdict by a jury

§15. Messages to General Assembly.

Section 15. He shall, from time to time, give to the General Assembly information of affairs concerning the State and recommend to its consideration such measures as he shall judge expedient.

§16. Special sessions of General Assembly; adjournment; special session of Senate.

Section 16. He may on extraordinary occasions convene the General Assembly by proclamation; and in case of disagreement between the two Houses with respect to the time of adjournment, adjourn them to such time as he shall think proper, not exceeding three months. He shall have power to convene the Senate in extraordinary session by proclamation, for the transaction of executive business.

§ 2102. Request for judicial opinions.

The Governor may, whenever the Governor requires it for public information or to enable the Governor to discharge the duties of office with fidelity, request the members of the Supreme Court to give their opinions in writing touching the proper construction of any provision in the Constitution of this State or of the United States or the constitutionality of any law enacted by the General Assembly of this State. (Code 1852, § 482; Code 1915, § 402; Code 1935, § 374; 29 Del. C. 1953, § 2102; 70 Del. Laws, c. 186, § 1.)

§ 4506. Special jury.

The Court may order a special jury upon the application of any party in a complex civil case. The party applying for a special jury shall pay the expense incurred by having a special jury, which may be allowed as part of the costs of the case. (66 Del. Laws, c. 5, § 1.)

I think it is even more basic that this.

From the Delaware Constitution's Bill of Rights:

§ 7. Procedural rights in criminal prosecutions; jury trial; self-incrimination; deprivation of life, liberty or property. Section 7. In all criminal prosecutions, the accused hath a right to be heard by himself or herself and his or her counsel, to be plainly and fully informed of the nature and cause of the accusation against him or her, to meet the witnesses in their examination face to face, to have compulsory process in due time, on application by himself or herself, his or her friends or counsel, for obtaining witnesses in his or her favor, and a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury; he or she shall not be compelled to give evidence against himself or herself, nor shall he or she be deprived of life, liberty or property, unless by the judgment of his or her peers or by the law of the land.

It would be absurd to presume that the writers of the Delaware Constitution or the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States (this article essentially mirrors and supports Amendments Five and Six) or any reasonable executive, legislator, judge or citizen would deny to the innocent those rights which are so plainly protected for the guilty.

powers over 6 months ago.

I guess she hasn’t yet found the time to read the Delaware
constitution.

There’s nothing objective about judiciary bodies. There’s nothing objective about taking away food and water. It’s a modern day T-4 program to make a more perfect union eliminate the disabled. Guess what? Everyone has impairments.

Jeb was just taking orders from his big brother. The ties to Judge Greer and the Semblers, i.e., the Bush loyalty thing outweighed the value of a human being.

Buying a phone card. That is a creative idea. Long distance phone cards are really cheap. People can buy say a 60 to 100 minutes for really low cost. People then can start making phone calls to the Governor’s Office pleading to stop this process from proceeding any further. Lauren deserves to Right to Live. Phone calls are lot harder to avod than emails.

All who will fight for Lauren's life, please note what is happening. We go to the published contact points and our impassioned letters and emails hit a well constructed solid wall. Judging by responses, even the most hard hitting of comments deflect, allowing Governor Minner to continue in peaceful denial that a problem exists at all.

I suggest looking for cracks in that wall, or going around it. That is why I suggested earlier trying to find someone influential around the seat of the Governor who has no such defenses, and will be reached by comments. Perhaps it is someone in Public Affairs, perhaps it is a friend. Powerful public outcry via blasts from the nearly silent media could breach that defense wall, but short of that, we must find chinks and weaknesses to get through. I know of none at the moment, but you all have better skills than I at that work. The Passionate Prolifer posts a reaction to the stock letter. May it penetrate that wall!

I am sad to receive your reply, but not totally surprised for:

It is contrary to God's Word that women should rule in the place of men.

In fact, it is a judgment on our nation when women rule: Were men of
great godly conviction and fortitude standing where you are standing
now, Lauren's life might be spared.

It is our nation's greatest shame, that those godly men are not to be
found at their posts.

Leaving Lauren's life to you, you who will leave her innocent life to
be guarded by the dogs of the judiciary, will only hasten Lauren
Richardson's death without trial or reason. You will stand by and do
nothing, wiping the crocodile tears you shed for Lauren, from blinded
eyes, begging prayers on her behalf from other gods than the God of
the Scriptures Who demands Lauren's Personhood should be shielded,

Gov. Charlie Crist, who has been in office for little more than a year, will get a rare opportunity in the next few months to completely reshape the Florida Supreme Court.

Four sitting Supreme Court justices will step down between now and March, including two appointed by then-Gov. Jeb Bush.

The latest to announce his departure, Justice Kenneth Bell, said Friday he wants to return to Pensacola to spend more time with his family.

Bell's decision is significant because it means Crist will get a chance to appoint a majority of the justices who sit on the powerful seven-member panel. While the state's highest court has been unified in many cases, it has split on key decisions, including when it ordered a statewide recount of ballots in the 2000 presidential election -- later halted by the U.S. Supreme Court -- and when it struck down Bush's private-school voucher program in 2006.................

High court in Crist's hands... Gov. Charlie Crist will get a remarkable chance to overhaul the state Supreme Court, which in recent years has ruled on ballot recounts, private school vouchers and the fate of Terri Schiavo.

Last week the California Supreme Court struck a body blow to the principle of government of the people, by the people and for the people.

The state's high court struck down a ban on same-sex marriage passed by a whopping 61.4 percent of voters in 2000. By a slim 4-3 majority, the court nullified the vote of the citizens of California and substituted its own judgment for that of the people. The court ruled that the ban violated the equal protection clause of the constitution because it discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation. Never mind that, since time immemorial, marriage has represented the union of one man and one woman. And never mind that the California Constitution does not create an exception to the rule for same-sex couples.

The American people have become all too familiar with the drill. The legislature passes a law banning abortion and the court overturns it. Children try to pray in school and the courts forbid it. The citizenry takes a stand for heterosexual marriage and the courts undercut it, branding them "bigots" in the process.

Activist judges are substituting their judgment for that of the American people and undermining the right of the people to govern themselves. In doing so, they are misrepresenting the requirements of the Constitution, and the American people are standing idly by as if there is nothing they can do about it. The other two branches of government—the legislative and executive branches—are standing idly by as well. Indeed, they have aided and abetted the judicial usurpation of authority by cowering at the feet of judges who are misrepresenting the provisions of the Constitution. The elected branches have done nothing to implement the checks and balances available to them to rein in a runaway judiciary. They simply furrow their brows and wring their hands while judicial activists run away with our democracy. In its place, these activists are substituting a judicial oligarchy.

Some believe that the solution to the problem is to pass constitutional amendments aimed at overturning the court decisions. They believe that adding new words to our state and federal constitutions will solve the problem. They are wrong!...............................

Great news!

Howdy everyone! My new cutoffs are just the right length. No more skin on vinyl. The visit with the surgeon went well. Everything looks great! Also had a visit from the home nurse today. All my vitals are in normal ranges. Blood pressure, heart, lungs, all good, blood sugar at 96. The surgeon approved a request made by my physical therapist for more therapy, a new gel insert for a hospital bed, and a tryout for a new prosthesis.

I get a new leg!! Woo hoo!!

Thank you all again for your prayers and support! We are making headway!
