Dhimmi watch: Muslim chases service animal out of (American!) school
Hot Air ^ | May 12, 2008 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 05/12/2008 10:30:52 AM PDT by GOPGuide

A student teacher who uses a service dog for his epilepsy has had to leave his position early after a Muslim student harassed the animal, and worse. Tyler Hurd needs the dog for his protection and for emergency supplies for first-aid responders, but apparently Technical High School in St Cloud believes that Hurd’s needs are secondary to providing a dog-free zone for its Muslim students. Hurd says he feels threatened by the action, as well he should — because the student threatened to kill the dog:

A St. Cloud State University student in a teacher-training program at Technical High School left the school in late April because he says he feared for the safety of his service dog.

The school district calls it a misunderstanding, and officials there say they hoped Tyler Hurd, a 23-year-old junior from Mahtomedi who aspires to teach special education, would continue his training in the district. Hurd said a student threatened to kill his service dog named Emmitt. The black lab is trained to protect Hurd when he has seizures. …

Hurd trained at Talahi Community School and Tech. He said his experience at Talahi was good. The Somali students there warmed to the dog and eventually petted him using paper to keep their hands off his fur, Hurd said.

Things didn’t go as well at Tech, Hurd said. Students there taunted his dog, and he finally felt he had to leave after he was told a student made a threat. Hurd met with Lockhart but said he did not feel comfortable continuing.

King Banaian notes the ridiculous nature of the school’s response:

So let’s take a look at this as a case of competing rights. On one side we have a student with a medical disability. One would think that the Americans with Disabilities Act would allow this student to participate to the fullest extent possible in pursuing his goals, which is to teach in special education. To do so, he is supposed to train in both elementary and secondary school settings. (The article notes that Hurd had no such problems with Somali students at his elementary school assignment.)

On the other side, we have a student at Tech HS whose faith considers dogs unclean and is asserting his right to education in an institution without dogs. This not only affects student teachers; any student with a sight or hearing disability may use a dog for assistance and might want to also attend Tech HS. …

But when rights collide, as they did here, whose rights did they choose to uphold first?

That’s easy. They upheld the rights of the side that threatened capitulation or violence. Instead of expelling the student for his threat and making an example of him, they chose to coddle the student and chase the teacher out of his job. Afterwards, they issued the normal multi-culti mewlings of “misunderstanding”, “growth process”, and emphasizing respect for different cultures.

I’ve got a suggestion: how about teaching that respect to the people who issue threats, instead of their victims? Which person needed an object lesson in respect more, the Somali student or Tyler Hurd?

The First Mate used to use guide dogs here and in California. On more than one occasion, she initially got refused cab service when using Cory. Only after she explained that the law required them to give her access did the cabbies relent.

We have laws in this country, decided on by democratically-elected representatives. If Muslims don’t like these access laws, then let them elect representatives that will reverse them, or failing that, go back to Somalia where violence trumps the law and they would be more comfortable. Shame, shame on Technical High School for buckling under to thugs and abandoning their responsibilities in such a cowardly manner.

Update: When I first read the article and King’s post, I had the impression that the school got complaints from the Muslim students, but the story doesn’t explicitly say that. I’ve reworded the first sentence, although it’s still entirely possible that they complained to the administration. If they didn’t, it makes the administration’s move even worse.

“The answer appears to be... more dogs.

Lots and lots of dogs”

Pigs are smarter than dogs anyway. I suggest this student needs a trained Yorkshire pig to be his animal helper.

I think I’ve read somewhere that dogs can detect epileptic attacks rig before they happen.

And some can dial 911, I suppose...

"Islam-a-nazies hate dogs because they give warning to their eternally guilty owners when the eternally innocent islam-a-nazies are sneaking up during the night to justifiably kill the infidels and steal all their stuff"

They also hate the dogs because they know the dogs are superior beings to them and what's more........the dogs know it too:)

Muslims HATE dogs (of all types).

Just another reason I feel no guilt/shame about being very suspicous
of Muslims.

I do at least treat them on a “Verfiy Before Trusting” basis.
That’s about the extent of the English fair-play they deserve given
their history since the bloody era of ‘The Prophet’.
And all the bloody centuries since then.

It must be you, ‘cuz it’s plain to me:

Disabled student teacher comes to school with his service dog, as usual.
Muslim whack-jobs freak out.
Muslim whack-jobs make threat of violence against the dog.
School administration folds to Muslim whck-job pressure, gives Disabled student teacher no support.
[And this is in spite of the fact that the threats made are, themselves, prosecutable illegal acts under long-established Law.]
Disabled student teacher now looking elsewhere to carry on with his education.
Muslim whack-jobs rule the field...

...in YOUR America.

So, instead of bringing in local Law and getting the threats investigated, and perhaps even prosecuted, the school and the school district caved. The Muslime whack-jobs carry the day, and guy who needs his dog to get along in good health gets a Muslim “left hand of fellowship” from the wimps who should have backed him up, but sold him out, instead.

Technical High School in St Cloud

In Minnesota?

If so, that's no shock.
Seeing how The Twin Cities are lousy with Skinnies (Somalian "immigrants").
And some charter schools in The Twin Cities no longer allow students
(even NON-Muslims) in art class to portray human faces/bodies
in art class.

That was covered here on FR a couple of years ago.

Specially trained dogs can sense an epileptic seizure just BEFORE it occurs. By alerting its master, the person has the opportunity to put himself in a safe position to have the seizure.

Do a little research before knocking something, willya?

I don't trust anyone who does not like dogs. Dogs are the most loyal creatures on earth and willingly would sacrifice their own lives for the sake of their caretakers.

But dogs as a whole? Seriously? There’s something wrong with such a person. Very, very wrong.

But then again we already knew that :)

“What is a dog suppose to do for epilepsy, dial 911, what a crock. Just another kid wants his pet in class. Abusing truly handicapped peoples rights.”

A service vest online costs about 60.00.
All anyone has to say is that they have a “service dog in training” and the dog, according to the DOJ can go anywhere.

We were training our pup for autism work. She went to the top of the CZ tower, on the Maid of the Mist, under the falls, into tons of restaurants, any grocery store, ANYWHERE.

Sadly she is too high strung for the work and we stopped training but while training, no diversity override the DOJ. This teacher backed off too soon.

>>And some can dial 911, I suppose...<<

A single large button is installed on a phone and the dog can speed dial 911.

They are trained to open locked doors and guide EMTs to their owners.

We should find out who this Jr. Jihadi is, and throw bacon at him. I know its a waste of pig, but sacrifices have to be made in the WOT.

What do you care if someone wants a service dog in an establishment?

Would it hurt you?

I remember going to a Cracker Barrel with our pup in training. We checked with the hostess, to show the dog was vested, her paperwork in her vest. She sat under the table the whole time.

Two women behind us caught sight of her as they were seated. They complained to the waitress (who handled it with tons of grace, I might add) then proceeded to b!tch the entire time they were sitting there about the dog, who never moved or made a peep under there.

People were giving them the strangest looks!

The guide dogs alert the person before the attack happens.

Islamic supremacist

99% of politics is a war over words and terminology and that's a great term! The term "Radical Islam" just doesn't quite describe the full danger at play here. "Islamic Supremists" On the other hand put's them in a category much more suited to their extreme natures and points in a much clearer way to the way these groups should be treated. It is a perfect political analogy which everyone will immediately understand. Everyday Christians are to the KKK as everyday Muslims are to "Islamic Supremists". Surprisingly enough I saw this same analogy defined in a West Wing episode of all places.
