Conservatism Lives

Posted on 05/17/2008 5:55:24 AM PDT by reasonisfaith

To say that the American conservative movement is over, or that Reaganism is dead, is just wrong. I would advise pundits to consider that the state of conservatism is found in the people, not in political leaders.

As I see it, we have two principle causes for the fact that conservative values, while still held by the people, are not well represented by elected leaders: a leftist media; and an unprecedented level of comfort in our standard of living.

We have it so good that most of us don’t pay close attention to the dangers lurking in the shadows. It’s the inevitable result of the comfort and luxury that comes with freedom. Hardship these days means being forced to decide what dvd to rent or which toppings to order on the pizza.

Meanwhile the poison of Stalinist judges goes mostly unseen, and the virus of a leftist media makes presidential candidates out of two charlatans and John McCain.

For example, most primary voters did not know McCain’s historical position on immigration, due to the deceptive news media. And McCain himself--a man with a good heart--probably believes the nonsense of global warming, simply because he listens to the media and follows the path of least resistance.

To Senator McCain I would say: a fiery temper is not necessarily a bad thing, but poor judgment always is. We’ve all used poor judgment, every last one of us. A reliable source informs me that the best way to avoid poor judgment is to look beyond the self.

The American people still value right over wrong, self-defense, keeping what you earn, individual liberty and God’s dominion over us. But to apply these principles to current events people have to know what’s really happening in the world. Ironically, this knowledge is blocked by the traditional news media. They are a terrible plague on our society.

More and more legislation is being passed by the leftists, Boxer’s pro-abortion murders are now, thanks to her, being funded by the American taxpayers and these monies are sent to other groups around the world to fund child murder. The attack on Conservatives perpetrated by the NY Slimes in Mississippi managed to call the Republican candidate a “racist” and thereby, lose the election by a narrow margin. The racist remark was attributed to the conservative ad pointing out that the democRAT candidate was supported by Obama and (his smarmy, dishonest, American-hating and liar), Rev. Wright. The Republican was unable to clear his name and the Slimes won another leftist seat in the House.
How many more candidates will be destroyed by the communist media and why aren’t they being sued out of existence for their lies and misleading the voters? These Marxist tactics have long been employed by the leftist media but nothing is done to stop these illegal activities.

Exactly how do your comments truly help to end the coming long-term socialism throughout the U.S., starting in January ‘09? John McCain is still the final Presidential choice on the GOP side, and he’s truly not a conservative-he’s a socialist. Barack Obama is also a socialist. The Democrats at every political level are also still on the verge of greatly adding to their majorities in Congress as well as increasing their numbers at every political level throughout the U.S. after the November 4 elections are complete. The Fairness Doctrine is still on the verge of eventually being fully implemented by the next President and by the next Congress, and this action alone will eventually kill off the existence of “U.S. conservatism”. Add in the eventual creation of amnesty for illegal immigrants “to the max” throughout the entire U.S. and eventually also allowing illegal immigrants to legally vote throughout the U.S. in all future U.S. elections, and “U.S. conservatism” will truly be killed off very quickly! The U.S. will be turned into a long-term socialistic third world country, and everybody with any kind of commonsense will truly try to do all that they can do to move out of the U.S. forever. Many people who do stay behind in the U.S. will also truly find no incentives to really want to have families created in the U.S. because the crime rates alone will be so high, and this doesn’t even scratch the surface of all of the problems that truly will be created throughout the U.S. after it truly becomes a socialistic third world country for the long-term. The white population in the U.S. in total will also shrink while the illegal immigrant population eventually will become the dominant population throughout the U.S. Prove me wrong on all of these things!

Also, blaming just the mainstream media’s ongoing political bias is truly just a fraction of the whole problem: It’s worldwide political correctness and its worsening on each and every issue everyday all over the world that’s the definitive problem!

These comments would help minimally, if at all, on that level. It’s really just me blowing off steam.

I hope to express the view that the status of conservatism is more accurately defined by the views of the people than by the actions of politicians. Many pundits and columnists seem to miss this point.

I don’t know what John McCain thinks. Maybe he doesn’t really know the evil of socialism. I think he’s mostly focused on personal gain through elected office, though he’s convinced himself his political actions are morally right. I believe his moral compass is buried beneath years of Senatorial self-aggrandizement, and is salvageable only through some kind of unlikely epiphany.

Life is so easy we’re allowing the leftists to destroy us from within, mostly by a deceptive news media.

So what - you wanna control the media like Mugabe and Putin ?

The conservative movement is in dire need of strong leadership right now, or all of the values we hold precious will sink in the socialist cesspit. Who’s going to provide that leadership - W, Rush, Newt, Boehner, McConnell, Mike Duncan, Condi - you see the problem........?

The media are a buncha slimeballs, but whining about them won’t change them - get a message that resonates with both suburban moms and conservatives like in 2000, 04, 80, 84 and 88. Then get a tenacious leader who can put the message clearly, patiently, empathetically and consistently. That’s a winning formula.

So far there are exactly two whiners on this thread, and I’m not talking about me.

We don’t need a leader with patience or empathy. That’s the pc garbage causing most of our problems.

We need Duncan Hunter with a little more aggression and a lot more charisma.

Most of the people I know are VERY conservative. Most don't bother to vote as neither of the Big Two parties are bothering to put any kind of a conservative on the ballot.

McCain is no conservative.

Of course he’s not.

But he can be brought closer to conservatism, starting with a good vp choice.

OK - so more aggression - from who ?

Remember, Hunter, the saviour of conservatism couldn’t manage 2% of the REPUBLICAN vote.

Call patience and empathy with middle class folks PC garbage if you like. But please don’t then wonder why you’re surveying the wreckage come November-time.

I presume you think one of the whiners is me - well I’m not the one blaming the media for all our ills - you are. It’s us - our brand, our image, our message, our leaders - have you been reading FR recently ? Some of us look at Mississippi and are trying to figure it all out.

We’re the ones who believe in individual responsibility remember ? You remind me of the DUmmies of 2004 blaming W’s win on the media.

You have a particularly strong desire to attack me personally, and this desire is way out of proportion when compared with the content of the thread or any of my comments. What the hell is your problem!

I’m saying the candidate himself must have a little fight in him, and enough people need to see it. Charisma will carry him there. Unfortunately this stylistic component is necessary to gain enough support.

People don’t want to be coddled, and that’s all you’re doing with patience and empathy. It’s not patience and empathy. It’s a love for traditional American values, stated loud and clear! That’s what Reagan did. For years, in Mississippi and all over our country, Republicans have been acting like a bunch of sissies.

I’m blaming the media for our ills because they have engaged in a devious agenda, planned and carried out over many decades, which has caused our ills.

If you look at the thread history, you were the one who first inferred I was a whiner, and that my suggestions were “garbage”. Just because you started the thread doesn’t give you the right to name-call without any come-back.

I have no desire whatsoever to attack you personally - I don’t know you, though I’m getting to know you a little better now - thin-skinned is what first comes to mind.

On your last paragraph - there you go again - it’s the media with their “devious agenda, planned and carried out over decades”. They ain’t gonna change - so watcha gonna do, apart from complain about them ?

Look, I hate the position conservatives are in right now - it’s depressing, and the thought of the Daily KOS crowd whooping it up nauseates me. We HAVE to get a conservative message out there that resonates beyond this community. Evoking Reagan, shouting “traditional American values” louder and blaming the media for things not going well just ain’t gonna cut it.

It’s totally your right to disagree - just let’s knock off the puerile name-calling, m’kay ?

In fact, here’s the formula for the successful conservative leader (the answer to the Mississippi problem that had you in such a state of confusion):

First, know what the traditional American values are, all of them, starting with God, know them and really believe in them above all else (if the belief isn’t there to begin with, don’t even try).

Then, learn how to communicate these values and act on them with guts, intelligence and charisma, and smile as the leftists try to smear you.

That’s all Reagan did, and he did it over and over! It’s that simple, really.

REPUBLICANS
What can Republican conservatives do ?
Republican conservatives are in shock that their party became so easily controlled by the Main Stream Media, NYT, and including Fox as MSM.
John McCain is the MSM pet republican and has been for a long time. When his campaign was broke he got all the free time on air that he wanted. The other candidates simply ran out of money. The Democrat candidates have spent a combined 1 billion dollars. Some campaign reform act.
The propaganda by the left carried in the MSM over the last several years convinced the country and unfortunately even some conservatives that the Republican administration of Bush was failed, the worst etc.and etc. The economy is terrible because of tax cuts etc. and of course the war is illegitimate because of no weapons of mass destruction — etc ad nausea. The propaganda has been non stop 24/7.
Now the response by liberal Republicans is to run away from Bush and get behind McCain.

Conservative Republicans probably make up about 60- 70 % of all people claiming to be Republicans. So how come McCain and half dozen to dozen republican liberals are the ones on MSM TV, talk shows, etc.
What to do ?
#1 Counter the propaganda —
Fox is not fair and balanced – It is a socialist venue like all the others.
Liberalism is socialism. Call liberalism what it is. And liberals are socialist whether democrats or republicans
The opposite of socialism is not capitalism. It is individualism. Individual Rights.
Socialist politics — divide and identify individuals into classifications. Some people - notably Limbaugh calls this “identity” politics. I call it socialist politics.
Remember, the opposite of Socialism is individualism. Throughout this political season, every report and commentary is designed to inform me .
How will whites vote? How will blacks vote ; how about, Asians; Native Americans;
How will Evangelicals vote ? Hell, I don’t even know what an Evangelical is. Am I one?
Seniors (old geezer like me?) ; Young people; Female vrs. Male; Gays vrs. Whatever.
The great Ronald Reagan in his farewell address refers to “ the great rediscovery, a rediscovery of our values and our common sense “ and then goes on to reference the “ the Shining city upon a hill”.
It is time for another rediscovery.
Begin the Propaganda – We do not have a Reagan so we will need to do it ourselves. Our propaganda does not need to be false. The liberal propaganda is false.
Propaganda is a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behaviors of large numbers of people.
Perhaps conservative republicans could use some of their obscene profits to buy a Mainstream Media TV network and use it 24/7 for propaganda of American values and common sense. If not a MSM network then a cable network.
If not a network then find or create the means to communicate. Electronic newspapers, telling the truth would help. Talk radio, although previously a great medium is not sufficient by itself to overcome the false propaganda of the MSM.
Know the enemy. Hillary Clinton wrote her Masters thesis on the work of a fellow named Saul Alinsky. Barack Obama worked in the community organizations established by Alinsky in Chicago, and is using his tactics now.
Please read the Diane Alden Article on Alinsky.
http://www.tysknews.com/Articles/dnc_corruption.htm
Then we can study the issues and whether the Republican party is the best vehicle to preserve freedom in America.

A revealing article on Alinsky. My blood boils.

The Republican party is like a building destroyed in a storm. There’s structural damage, walls have collapsed. Windows are broken, the floors and carpets are ruined, there’s no power. But the framework—the foundation—is intact. It can be rebuilt in its former image.

I believe true American values can potentially return to the Republican party leadership. Currently they’re mostly second rate leaders; a potent innovator could easily sway them. The right language and the balls to use it.
