Moderator’s note:This was the first real thread reporting the news today. It was locked for reasons that should be obvious to everyone by now. The Moderator who locked it is the level-headed Mod. I am the arbitrary and capricious Mod. If you choose to martyr yourself I am happy to oblige.

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy, the veteran lawmaker from Massachusetts who is the last surviving brother in the legendary Kennedy family, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, his doctors said today.

Specialists in Boston and around the country said the information released indicated that Kennedy has terminal cancer and might have only a limited time to live.

I totally agree with you. While Senator Kennedy and I are on opposite ends of the political spectrum, I pray for his comfort and well being. This is not something one would want to see happen to anyone. Although there is absolutely no common political ground between Ted Kennedy and myself, I do admire him for stepping up to the plate and attempting to be a father figure to his nieces and nephews whose fathers were deceased. I always thought it was sweet that he walked Caroline Kennedy down the aisle. Just my random thoughts. Prayers for Senator Kennedy and his loved ones.

There have been many prayers by conservatives for Sen. Kennedy and his family on this site tonight. I wonder what Liberals would say if President Bush were ailing.

I wonder what Christ would say about the Pharisees? Oh wait. I guess I don't have to wonder.

Oh I know what most would say. The things they said about Cheney when he had his last heart issue were disgusting.

Damage to the left parietal lobe can result in what is called "Gerstmann's Syndrome." It includes right-left confusion, difficulty with writing (agraphia) and difficulty with mathematics (acalculia). It can also produce disorders of language (aphasia) and the inability to perceive objects normally (agnosia).

Left parietal-temporal lesions can effect verbal memory and the ability to recall strings of digits (Warrington & Weiskrantz, 1977). The right parietal-temporal lobe is concerned with non-verbal memory.

I guess I'd want to know if I had little time left. It would give one time to make things right.

As I said before, I wish the Senator a complete recovery. I’m not quite ready to give up the comic relief.

That said...it says something about the observational powers of Massachusetts physicians that it took them the better part of eight decades to find a part of Ted that was malignant.

It could happen, which would leave JPK’s seat open for election

What seat? Joseph Patrick Kennedy III retired from the U.S. Congress several years ago.

If money/resources can save him, he’ll be saved!

He seems to have been very lucky in life!

That makes a great deal of sense.

I recently had a brain scan (MRI, for those in Loma Linda), and the waiting period until you get the radiologist’s report is agonizing.

Melanomas do not turn into gliomas.

Gliomas are primary tumors. They neither orignate nor extend outside the nervous system. However, a metastatic (secondary) tumor could originate from cancer in another location. Melanoma is pretty high on the list when it comes to association with brain tumors.

Did Kennedy have melanoma at an earlier time?
