After admitting himself to a hospital with symptoms of a severe headache, Gov. David Paterson was diagnosed Tuesday with acute glaucoma in his left eye and was undergoing a routine procedure to relieve pressure on that eye, his office said.

The operation, called an iridotomy, will not have any long-term impact on the governor's overall health, the statement said.

"The governor will remain conscious throughout the procedure, but in an abundance of caution, the Senate majority leader and the Assembly speaker were advised of this pursuant to standard protocol," it said.

Acute Glaucoma is nothing to joke about! The guy is already legally blind, could loose any sight that he might have left in his eye.

If the pain in the head is caused by the glaucoma, wouldn’t this mean that it is not a migraine.

I understand that migraines are a specific diagnosis unto themselves and that severe, excrutiating, throbbing head pain is but one, albeit the major one, symptom. Perhaps my understanding is incomplete.

I have glaucoma but from what I understand it moe severe in the black population. Mine is easily treatable.

My husband had glaucoma that could not be controlled, and was mostly blind for the last 15 years of his life. Stay on top of it.

Thats why I'm wondering if it's not the State Police possibly instead of glaucoma.
