Skip to comments.McCain incentivizing supporters to comment on blogs
Posted on 05/21/2008 11:40:52 AM PDT by Dawnsblood
John McCain's campaign is using their campaign website to encourage supporters to post supportive comments on political blogs, including the most well-known liberal site in the blogosphere. And to make things easier, they're including talking points with which sympathizers can use to get out the McCain message.
"Select from the numerous web, blog and news sites listed here, go there, and make your opinions supporting John McCain known," instructs the page.
McCain supporters are asked to send the details of their comment to the campaign, which in turn will verify it and then reward the supporter with "points" (assumedly to accumulate for McCain swag)
Among the "featured blogs" currently is Daily Kos, the well-read liberal blog run by Markos Moulitsas that frequently mocks and attacks Republicans such as McCain.
Asked about the effort to gin up online support, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said, "We absolutely encourage our supporters to engage in this discussion."
As for the talking points, which currently link over to two recent McCain speeches, Rogers said they were "facts about John McCain and his record."
As close readers of Politico blogs and others know, Obama dominates both Clinton and McCain when it comes to drawing fervent online support.

Say what you want about McCain but he has a sharp crew working for him when it comes to PR.
The Bush crew could have used them in the past several years.
He knows the conservatives consider him an abomination so he’s trying to peel away the dem moderates.
They should be posting here but I guess they figure they have a better chance of getting votes on Dem sites.
That really doesnt make a whole lot of sense... THe hard core political fans wont change their stripes based on some anonymous post.
I would advise going to apolitical places and dump anecdotal items in support of McCain to perhaps sway an undecided. I know everyone hates politics in apolitical places but they have to be done in a way that doesnt out you as some spammer or troller.
I wont be doing any of that though.
They're here, too. But when a FReeper doesn't bit they become belligerent.
OK do I get my t-shirt now?
“Incentivizing” makes it sounds like he’s bribing them. Looks to me like they are just putting out ways that supporters can help if they want to.
That’s true....he’s got Charlie Black working for him. Black, of course, is legendary for his PR efforts at rehabilitating tyrants and genocidal maniacs like Ferdinand Marcos and Mobutu Seke.
What a joke.
No, he’s bribing them. They get points at his online store.
McCain sucks up to the execrable Daily “Screw Them” Kos...meanwhile, it takes Michelle Malkin multiple attempts to get included in the McCain campaign’s blogger update phone calls. Something is very, very wrong here.
They are posting here. On almost any McCain thread, you will find posters who have signed up only in the last few months, are strong supporters, and do not post on any other threads. I do not expect any of them to be here after the first week in November.
Suggesting that people post messages supporting McCain on DailyKos is laughable. The poster would get banned or heckled to death, and probably both. What’s even sillier is that you can bet your bottom dollar the Kos Kidz probably already know about this “plan” and will be looking out for it!
Sympathizers? LOL! Must be the new buzzword for troll.
I hate John McCain.
(Off topic, but I can’t help myself.)
It’s pretty pathetic when a candidate has to reward people for saying nice things about him.
Daily Kos is included
You’re right, I didnt’ click on the link. I made what apparently was a bad assumption.
First thing McCain must do is make a public statement rejecting Fascism and fascistic elements in legislative initiatives.
The second thing, which is pretty much in line with the first thing, is to repudiate McCain/Feingold as a failed policy, and then demand its repeal!
I just went over to Kos and looked, and yep, as I thought they are all over it.
Oh, it goes further than that. That’s the tip of the iceberg.
I hate Baraq more though,
Don’t you just love our choices this season?
First, reject Fascism and fascist principles.
Fur Shur neither the Obamasama nor the Hildabeast are truly able to do that. Their words would choke in their throats.
It will probably have "Viva La Raza" printed across the front...
We know that, some of the best, the chamber of commerce and the K street lobbyists can buy.
He needs to keep an eye on those who follow his advice. A few McCain supporters are pretty obnoxious and spend more time yelling about “radical right wingers” than they do posting any McCain positives. They hurt, rather than help him.
And GEORGE SOROS! Don't forget George Soros!
We’re in a lovely pickle, aren’t we.
NOTE--HE DOES NOT MENTION CLOSING THE BORDER
Border Security and Immigration Reform
I have always believed that our border must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to ensure that it is secure. If we have learned anything from the recent immigration debate, it is that Americans have little trust that their government will honor a pledge to do the things necessary to make the border secure.
As president, I will secure the border. I will restore the trust Americans should have in the basic competency of their government.(SO WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN SINCE 1986?) A secure border is an essential element of our national security. Tight border security includes not just the entry and exit of people, but also the effective screening of cargo at our ports and other points of entry.
But a secure border will contribute to addressing our immigration problem most effectively if we also:
Recognize the importance of building strong allies in Mexico and Latin America (Kissing up to them) who reject the siren call of authoritarians like Hugo Chavez, support freedom and democracy, and seek strong domestic economies with abundant economic opportunities for their citizens.
Recognize the importance of pro-growth policies -- keeping government spending in check, holding down taxes, and cutting unnecessary regulatory burdens -- so American businesses can hire and pay the best.(THE BEST---Do you include Illegals in that?)
Recognize the importance of a flexible labor market to keep employers in business and our economy on top. It should provide skilled Americans and immigrants with opportunity. Our education system should ensure skills for our younger workers, and our retraining and assistance programs for displaced workers (People on Unemployment and Welfare--sounds like more Socialism to me)must be modernized so they can pursue those opportunities
Recognize the importance of assimilation (We do--Why do we still have "For English-Press 1"--Don't you have any control over that?) of our immigrant population, which includes learning English, American history and civics, and respecting the values of a democratic society.
Recognize that America will always be that "shining city upon a hill," a beacon of hope and opportunity for those seeking a better life built on hard work and optimism.
Border security and our failed immigration system are more examples of an ailing Washington culture (And how long have you been a member of that Failed, ailing culture?) in need of reform to regain the trust of Americans. In too many areas -- from immigration and pork barrel spending to Social Security, health care, energy security and tax relief -- business-as-usual politics prevents addressing the important challenges facing our nation.
I wonder if the campaign has really thought this through. This has a high chance of backfiring. The campaign is essentially sending out a bunch of complete amateurs to conduct its web-based PR. What happens when some McCainiac says something way, way, way out of line, then expects the McCain campaign to come through with a T-shirt or coffee mug as a reward? By offering incentives to online posts, the McCain campaign is claiming a form of “ownership” of them. Considering some of the wacky stuff that could get posted, does McCain REALLY want to own other peoples’ heat-of-the-moment, off-the-cuff remarks?
Very dangerous territory for someone who has repeatedly said he wishes to conduct a civil, respectful campaign.
As I live and breathe. I am changing my approach. It is this, “If McCain supporters do not want Barack Obama as their POTUS, spend less time here, and make a fervent appeal to have an acceptable candidate nominated at the convention”. I am no longer going to be the person on the defensive. Don’t like that answer? Tough.
If you do not want Obama. Get a new candidate. Otherwise you will get what you hate the most.
Yep, I’ve seen them too.
“Something is very, very wrong here.”......
Sure is!...McAmnesty knows the conservative base considers him a traitor and the truth hurts so he isn’t even going to try. We are telling him...forget about it!
They are most certainly posting here. Some of the McCainiac’s posts are so scripted that the only rational explanation is that they’re paid per click.
They should be posting here but I guess they figure they have a better chance of getting votes on Dem sites.
Who says they aren’t? keyword ‘McCain’
Moderates and Progre$$ives post here all the time even if it isn’t a blog... and definitely not a GoP blog.
anyone trying to link Conservatism and the benefit of a ‘Putsch to the middle’ GoP party will get a reality check here, FRee. ;-)
You just screwed yourself out of 500 points for a John McCain baseball cap. :(
For me, he can do that AFTER he has:
1. Fired Juan Hernandez from his campaign
2. Resigned his Senate seat
Great statement! It bears repeating.
Did you notice the little drop-down box on the right side? (”suggested blogs”)
The Freep isn’t even listed, which speaks volumes. Reckon it’ll register with our resident McCainiacs when confronted?
“What a joke.”
Good ‘conservative’ John McCain probably doesn’t know FR even exists.
Maybe he’ll come online and talk to us, answer questions.
I think it is high time we “get a candidate WE CAN BELIEVE IN”, that is not McCain. It is asking too much to not accept the BS he believes in? I am tired of being told to shut up, vote, and not being granted freedom of speech.
What are we fighting for anyway? I am not fighting for a UN controlled, global world. Just not.
Oh, yeah, I can see it now. For every pro-MacCain message they post, they get one point. Then, when they've acumulated 1,000,000 points, Juanito's folks will send them a "Vote MacCain" pin.
Time to join some of the sites that have received the offical MacCain campign seal of approval and post a few “MacCain is God” messages.
I couldn’t agree more! There is still time for us to find another candidate, IF we stop telegraphing the message to the party that we will vote for any slop just to keep the dems from winning. If we don’t stand up now - it will be a long time before we get the chance to again.
There are several conservative talk radio hosts who have never been able to get McCain to appear, even when he was at the bottom of the polls, etc.
Conservative candidate? Hardly. But he has no problem appearing on say, Sat. Nite Live. A few years ago, there was a skit that portrayed McCain VERY badly, relating back to his POW experience. It was really over the edge, very demeaning. I remember a discussion here on FR about it. I think that’s the last time I watched that show I was so disgusted. And I can’t stand McCain, but there was NOTHING funny about what they did. Now, I ask, WHY doesn’t that tick McCain off as badly as he’s always ticked off at the rest of us ‘conservatives’??
Juan McCain has an obsessive hatred of conservatives that I think makes him mentally imbalanced and highly unstable. He’s just “not right”.
By the way, I love your tagline!
I think you may be on to something...
