None with me.
I know that I am in the minority her on FR, but gay marriage is really not a big issue for me. I just don’t care if two consenting adults want to marry each other.
What does offend me is that fact that the courts are deciding this issue. It needs to be done thru the legislature.
That said, I am well aware of the fact that marriage is not really what gays want. They just want to impose their agenda and disrupt America, so it is not like this will make them happy.
Still, with all that is happening in the world, this issue just doesn’t register with me.
Personally, I don't want to offend them either. Can't say I want to offend anyone. Do I want to win? Yes. Do I want to bring people around to my way of thinking? Yes. But I don't want to be offensive about it.
I want my candidates to be conservative, strong in their conservative beliefs, unwilling to kowtow to liberal pressure . . . but, at the same time, gentlemanly (or ladylike as the case may be) about it.
If you are conservative you offend liberals because you dare disagree with them.
McCain appeases them, IMHO.
>>Why do conservatives give a crap about what people do in
>>there personal lives?
California Decision Will Radically Change Society
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2018496/posts
I’m not really interested in what others do behind closed doors but there is absolutely no reason to allow two men in a relationship — and one which is pretty much indisputable as being detrimental to society, no less — the same benefits as a man and woman trying raise a family.
“I know that I am in the minority her on FR, but gay marriage is really not a big issue for me. I just dont care if two consenting adults want to marry each other.”
The concern is NOT consenting adults but the children they then go after for adoption, etc., and pushing other laws down our throats to get children. Children do not belong in gay homes.
Those of you who don’t care about gay marriage, need to extrapolate out what is really going on here; it’s the children you NEED to care for.
Marriage is a practice based in religion. And the United States is based on Christianity. The incentives passed down for marriage comes from this foundation. This need of gays to force the word marriage on us is a way to say the homosexuality is condoned by the Christian faith and God. Neither is true.
Conservatives have no interest in getting into the bedroom. Civil relationships should be allowed in the United States between two consenting human adults with legal status.
Leave the word "Marriage" to the religious ceremonies.
they will be on there medical insurance,SS,and retirement.
And, like you, I've no problem with civil unions -- any more than I have a problem with co-habitation or going steady. Just so long as they remain legally distinct from marriage...
I am offended by sodomites.
“....what’s the problem here and why all the hyperventilating?”
Thank you for asking.
The problem is that marriage in the past in all civilizations and at all times was conceived of as an institution which enabled society to continue on through progeny, the next generation. Marriage was considered the most stable way to go about securing the future of any given civilization, however that civilization structured marriage.
The waters today have been muddied by the pill and artificial means of conception and, of course, no-fault divorce (another liberal innovation). The waters have also been muddied by the fact that a minority of married heterosexuals choose not to produce children. Children in modern society are an economic drain rather than an asset; they’re not needed to work on the farm, in other words, but the fact remains that marriage is still the central institution through which society perpetuates itself. Children of divorce, children being raised by single mothers have a much harder time in a variety of ways - feelings of abandonment, fear of committing to a relationship, poverty, trouble in school and with the law and so on - it depends on the individual.
So liberal experiments with marriage thus far have not been successful.
Gay marriage, our next liberal experiment, cannot be compared to interracial marriage, because when that debate occurred, the assumption was made that only men and women could marry. Interracial couples can produce children. Allowing interracial marriage to occur truly expanded marriage and did not alter its very meaning.
Gay marriage does not expand the definition of marriage; it alters it altogether. It makes adults and their happiness, however they define it, the center piece of marriage. Children are off on the periphery of this definition, even if the adults are devoted to their children. A child produced by a lesbian will probably have no way of knowing half of his or her relatives, all for the sake of the happiness of adults. Children sacrifice for the sake of adults rather than the other way around.
Gay marriage assumes that men and women are interchangeable except for obvious physical differences. This feminist theory is not borne out by everyday experience. Posters on this site have noted the differences between raising boys and girls or teaching boys and girls. Everyday people consider boys/girls men/women to be fundamentally different, although rigid stereotypes of either sex are not useful. In any event, social conservatives believe that children ideally deserve a mother and a father. The mother is more likely to give unconditional love, and the father is more likely to give conditional love, thus setting limits and enforcing discipline. Both are necessary for children.
Also, in the past, it was recognized that a step family is not the ideal arrangement for a child, and every gay family is a step family. Like it or not, we biologically have more at stake in protecting and furthering our own genes rather than those of someone else.
You may connect marriage with adult happiness and freedom of choice; social conservatives connect marriage partly with individual happiness, but also with children and the fabric of the entire community and its future. We recognize that freedom cannot be unlimited because we are not autonomous, but part of a larger community.
Gay marriage is already having an effect In Massachusetts. Children in kindergarten take home books about family “diversity,” and the parents are not expected to complain about it. Ditto for children in the 2nd grade who hear the fairy tail, “King to King,” where the king rejects the princesses and marries a king instead. On a different note, will small businesses in California be forced to cover the medical expenses of an HIV-positive spouse? The health insurance premiums could go sky high for everybody. Possibly the small business would be forced to drop health benefits for all staff. I’m throwing out possibilities, but the issues goes far beyond the mantra that the gay married couple down the street don’t affect me and my life.
There was a post on this site on May 4 at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2011086/posts . It’s a bit sensationalistic, but it makes the point. “Gay marriage does not work - men are just too predatory...” The article is actually shorter than this post, so it’s worth a look.
But gee, I always hear homosexuals say, “We don’t recruit” - how can this be?
Excellent reply, I commend you.
Freudian slip? Didn't you mean Fairy Tale?
Damn perverts are always in your face.
Well, at least it was a funny Freudian slip.
Years ago I was in Dallas and got lost driving. The traffic was horrible, so I took this side street in an effort to get around the snag. We started noticing all these people standing and milling about. Didn’t think much of it at first.
It wasn’t long though until we noticed that they were all men looking like women and women looking like men and that there was some kind of ‘celebration’ going on and we were smack dab in the middle of it.
Most of the streets were one way and many were blocked. Frantic to get out of there, I kept taking turn after turn, until the last one...were we were stuck ‘bringing up the very rear end’ of the Gay Pride Parade.....LOL!!
Needless to say, I still get teased about the time I was in the ‘Gay Pride Parade’........LMAO!!
Lawdy!
Did you have the car irradiated afterwards?
