While Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and her advisers insist that she is determined to win the Democratic nomination, friends of the couple say that former President Bill Clinton, for one, has begun privately contemplating a different outcome for her: As Senator Barack Obamas running mate.
The reports about Mr. Clintons musings surface as the Obama camp has quietly begun the process of searching for a partner on the Democratic ticket.
The prospect of an Obama-Clinton ticket has been fodder for political gossip for months, with some Democratic leaders pushing the idea as a way to unify the party. The Obama and Clinton campaigns have consistently shrugged off the idea, however, and Mrs. Clinton has been adamant that she is only interested in the presidency.
Yet anyone who knows the Clintons is well aware that, at times, they come to politics with different motivations. Both of them want to return to the White House; Mrs. Clinton, of New York, also enjoys being a senator, while Mr. Clinton, according to associates, sees the vice presidency as perhaps her best path to becoming president someday if she loses the nominating fight. And Mr. Clinton has his own ideas about his wifes best interests even if she sometimes does not share them.
A spokesman for Mrs. Clintons campaign said Thursday that Mr. Clinton had not had private conversations in which he was pushing her for the vice presidency or arguing that she deserved it, and that he believed the choice of a running mate was a personal one for the nominee.
Friends of the former president say his musings have been more casual: He believes that an Obama-Clinton ticket could help unify the party, and he thinks she has earned a meeting with Mr. Obama to discuss the possibility.

LOL
hey Hillary, start practicing this line: “Hello, White House? How is the President’s health today? Still good, huh? Well, thanks anyway.”
Serously?! That title needs some serious work.
I can’t help but think that after loaning herself millions of dollars she is going to take the second spot. She has a plan, otherwise she would’nt waste her money.
I don’t think Hussien and Michelle want Bill Clinton anywhere near the Whitehouse. He would be stealing the spotlight.
We have always thought of the Clintons as “Number 2”, looks like the tide is turning, finally some good news.
There’s some things even the Secret Service cannot protect against.
She will have him killed...If Obma agrees to taking on the Bubba and Hellary as the VP he’s signing his death warrent!!!
It's only a temporary detour to get to the #1 spot.
She’s No. 2 alright.
This is so far off....should Obama become president watch for Hillary to get a Supreme Court nomination and John Edwards as Attorney General.....(shudder)
I cannot believe she would accept a subordinate role to Obama. I am hoping she goes al the way to the convention and doesn’t give up until she loses a roll call vote. The she gives a concession speech about the “dream of all women still lives on to fight another day”. Women cry and Obama goes down in flames in November.
I’ve certainly heard that combination of assignments mentioned in the media - but think about Hillary to the SCOTUS for a moment. Aside from the horror of it - remember that she would have to withstand an FBI background check for the nomination. I don’t think so.
Every time I read an article like this I remember a comment Matt Drudge made on his now-defunct radio show maybe even as far back as 2006 -- in which he predicted that both of these clowns would end up on the ticket but wasn't sure which one would be in which spot.
Clinton as No. 2 = Obama’s signed death certificate. And to think, I used to think that was a bad thing.
If she’s the Veep, Hussein better watch his back.
