Please pray for nully's daughter

Called Darling Daughter a few minutes ago. Happened to catch her in the ER.

She's been in what she describes as a minor bike accident and has an "impaled injury on her arm".

She sounded more or less OK. Didn't want to bother her parents, and has friends with her.

They had just given her something to 'calm her down' (it wasn't working all that well) and were going to perform a procedure that minute.

Didn't find out which arm, what was stuck in it, or what hospital before she had to go.

Since she's a Banana Slug, and the closest hospital to UC Santa Cruz is Dominican, that's probably where she is.

Hi all, Just a quick update. Darling Daughter is doing well. The eeeeeeeeevil slime mom actually let me into her house (The one I bought before I ever met her) to talk to her for 5 whole minutes (Good thing I'm not BITTER, no?).

Anyway, she was never actually stuck on the fence, the pale dug into her arm like an old fashioned can opener and neatly evulsed out a triangular chunk.

As she tells the story, she was headed down Mission in a section that didn't have a bike lane (No bike lane??? In SANTA CRUZ???)) and decided to go up a driveway onto the sidewalk. her front tire was caught by a small lip where the driveway meets the gutter and flipped her onto the fence.

She picked herself up and noticed that she was bleeding from her arm where a chunk of flesh was dangling. Hmmm. I can see inside my arm, that's interesting, uh, bad...

She starts trying to call friends to get her to the hospital, finally manages to get ahold of one and puts her on a mission to round up a car.

Meanwhile the guy from across the street comes over to render aid. The woman at the house she splatted at shows up. She is very concerned and nice to Darling Daughter (as in I'm so sorry that happened please don't sue me or as in genuine concern? Genuine concern, dad) Both had small chillins in tow so were a little limited in how much aid they could render.

By now the shock is starting to wear off and she has to switch to her left hand as her right losing its cunning, and is getting slippery.

The fire dept shows up and lays the flap back over the hole and bandages her arm, her Beau shows up, she has to sign away all her rights -left handed!- to have him take her to the hospital. (The FD wants her to take an ambulance, which hasn't arrived yet, she made the judgment call that it would be quicker to use the car that was there NOW). As an aside, we later found out that had she needed a LifeFlight from Santa Cruz to Valley Medical in San Jose, it's $15,000.00! No idea what an ambulance to the nearest hospital would have cost.

She arrives at the ER and is triaged, they were a little slow as she was already bandaged and still vertical, They gave her a bit of Valium to calm her down. Somewhere along the way she managed to leave a message on her mom's home phone. At this point the eeeeeeeeeeeevil slime dad -that's me- calls her out of the blue to discuss her cell phone bill... ummmmm, dad, this really isn't a good time to talk about that...

Anyway, she quickly ran down the high points, and a assured me that she didn't want either of the eeeeeeeeevil slime parents to bother to come to the ER (yeah right) before the ER people grabbed her again.

I called the eeeeeeeeeevil slime mom at work. Told her about the accident, how well Darling Daughter was doing despite being impaled, and her wish to handle it on her own. Yeah right.

The eeeeeeeeeevil slime mom met her at the hospital.

She says the one who stitched up Darling Daughter did a great job first going in and lining up and joining the underlying muscles and tissues, then folding up the flap and tacking it in place with a single stitch at the apex, then ran stitches up each side then went back and snugged them up evenly. I suspect there will be minimal scarring.

She then took Darling Daughter and got a few things from her on-campus apartment, tried to fill the undated Rx's and brought her back to her house.

Anyway, when I saw Darling Daughter, she looked and sounded pretty good. A few minor scratches on her throat one on her cheek a couple bruises and lumps. She was a little tiny bit groggy from the meds, but was sitting up and in the process of e-mailing one of her perfessers about the test she just missed.

She's going to be just fine. We thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts.

LOL! Good thing, Nully.

I can tell you are a good Dad, because you trusted her to handle it when she told you she could, and I can tell you have a good Daughter, because she trusted you to trust her.

She's going to be just fine.

Both of you will be. :-)

Thanks for the update.

I’m so glad she’s okay, Nully. I’ve been thinking about her all weekend. Kids....no matter how old they get they still worry you. Find any new gray hairs lately? :)
Thanks for the update...sounds like she’s doing just fine! :)

Thanks. Some of my few of the remaining hairs have indeed turned gray.

She had a followup at the ER, they are happy with her progress (no infection, etc.) and expect she can have her stitches out in a week.

I’ll ping everyone when that happens.
