Subway, the sandwich restaurant, wants to hear your child's story – unless he or she is homeschooled.

The national chain's "Every Sandwich Tells a Story Contest" offers prizes and a chance to be published on the Subway website and in Scholastic's "Parent & Child" magazine but specifically excludes homeschoolers:

Subway contest

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Contest is open only to legal residents of the Untied (sic) States who are currently over the age of 18 and have children who attend elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted.

Subway's website promotion not only misspells "United" States, but offers the grand prize winner a "Scholastic Gift Bastket (sic) for your home."

The 2007 winner of the Scripps National Spelling Bee was Evan O'Dorney, a 13-year old homeschool student from Danville, Calif.

“...in the mood for a sand witch.”

Would that be an over-the-hill spinster from Berserkrly or a nubile, overly-monied brat from Long Beach?

If that is their intent they should not have held the contest this year. The ad agency that proposed this idea is out of touch with Subway’s market. If his goal was to have less customers.... he just succeeded.

nope....errors are still there as of right now.

"bastket" is under Grand Prize. "Untied" is at the very, very bottom in small print.Contest is open only to legal residents of the Untied States

“I’m guessing Subway is either in negotiation or already has a deal with the NEA, promoting “healthy eating”

Yeah, the NEA’s probably getting a 10% vig.

We have a Quiznos in town here and if I really wanted a sancwich it would be very easy to get to for me..I don't really go out and eat that much because I donot like the thought of someone I don't know handling my food.. they do wear gloves in both Sandwich shops and you can watch them putting them together..

If the winners of the contest were homeschooled Subway could simply require them to donate the equipment to a local home school support group.

As far as the Subway contest is concerned - they have just lost a faithful family. There is a Philly Sub Shop, a Quiznos and a Subway all within two blocks of each other here so it is simply a matter of which one we decide to go to.

In the Philadelphia area we have a fantastic sandwich chain called Primos. I will drive miles out of my way to get to one when I’m in the mood

Screw Subway. Those of you in the mid-Atlantic region of the USA should be eating Wawa sandwiches instead.

I'm with you on that thought. But I like to eat, so I'm kinda stuck. I just ask the Lord's blessings on the food.

On second thought there is a bigger issue here. Using the public schools as a part of their marketing plan. Why not have their menu items discussed as part of the subject mater? McDonalds can sponsor a “contest” where students add up the cost of their various menu items. Then it hit me.

Why not simply have advertising targeting the school kids right in there text books? All of a sudden the cost of text books to the taxpayers approaches zero. After all how much do you pay for a phone book?

This would truly be a win win situation, the kiddies get their text books books, heck they could even have coupons in them, and the taxpayers get a break.

As far as the actual learning material in the books goes, it certainly can not get any worse, and may even improve.
