DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- The United States should scrap a significant portion of its nuclear arsenal, Sen. John McCain said Tuesday in a speech laying out his nuclear security policy.

McCain also spoke about canceling the development of nuclear "bunker-busting" bombs and working with Russia and China to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons.

"Today we deploy thousands of nuclear warheads. It is my hope to move as rapidly as possible to a significantly smaller force," the presumptive Republican presidential nominee said at the University of Denver.

Protesters interrupted McCain's speech four times. The hecklers were escorted out of the room and shouted down by others in the audience chanting the candidate's name.

"This may turn into a longer speech than you had anticipated," McCain said with a wry grin after one of the interruptions.

The McCain detractors of course will welcome this... but before you enter into a total McCain slamming session, read this:

Bush reduced nuke arsenal:

Not to speak of the cuts made by Clinton in the mid-1990's.

Well at least there’s a chance that tyhe GOP might actually oppose Obama. From the behavior of the mug collecters it doesn’t look like McCain would face any opposition no matter what he does.

Nice Logic.

Bush did it so it must be good!

I didn’t realize CNN i.e. Clinton News Network, Commie News Network (named so by FReepers) was now the source of record for FreeRepublic.

I was home eating during that speech. It was garden variety “work with other nations on non-proliferation” stuff.

Let’s not let that get in the way of yet another bash McCain thread, though.

Where did I say that? Projection? I just pointed out that you shouldn't behave totally surprised or treat this as a McCainiac novelty.

New push for bunker-buster nuke

....To counter what the Pentagon considers a growing threat from such “hard and deeply buried targets,” the Bush administration today is accelerating steps to develop more effective, earth-penetrating nuclear bombs.....

That's exactly right. And when the stupid, stupid, stupid RINOs see the Stupidity King himself go down in defeat, it might light a light in their teeny-weeny brains that we are NOT going to support RINOs anymore.

I'm telling you, we need to suffer a McCain defeat this fall, as bad as that is, as bad as that will be. We need to go through Obama-hell if we're going to have any hope of coming out the other side with a decent, conservative Republican Party.

McCain: We’ll swap you 10 nukes for 1000 illegal immigrants.

What’s wrong with this SOB?

Wrong. Your source is outdated (2002). The Bush admin axed the nuclear bunker busters 2005 and is concentrating on non-nuclear versions!

>Let’s rely on the UN

Yeah, Kee reist!
Better move away from the big cities right away with that type of protection.

>and working with Russia and China

Uh Huh. Russia and China are the very players that are getting us into this (nuclear) mess!

Who exactly is sending Iran fissile materials for the nuclear plants that their own country is building for Iran in the first place??

No. I watched his speech on TV. He said it all. As quoted. In context. ><

Can we just cut to the chase and start Armageddon?

LOL!! Yeah, thats the winner today!
Compare McCain with Clinton! Lots of conservatives will vote for him now!

And then compare Bush’s position on Amnesty - see you at the signing - with John’s position next, okay?
