Is it possible that California could go for a Republican for the first time since 1988? One of the cable news networks reported last night that McCain had come within a few percentage points of B. Hussein Obama in CA.
What could make this happen?
#1. The referendum on the ballot that would reverse the State Supreme Court Ruling on same-sex marriage. This will bring Conservatives out in droves. (Hopefully out of their hatred for McCain they won’t vote for B. Hussein Obama.)
#2. The craziness that keeps going on in B. Hussein's church. I've got to believe that the majority of Californians are not crazy enough to align their politicl ideology with those nuts; the latest being Fr. Pfleger. Like most other Americans, the majority of Californians have got to realize that B. Hussein is the product of 20 years of indoctrination by preachers who hate White people.
#3. The fact that many Californians who would vote Democratic believe that B. Hussein is a closet Muslim who would be sympathetic to Islamo-Fascists; his autobiography indicates as much.
SIDE BAR: If, God forbid, there is another Terrorist Attack on our soil before November 4, Cindy McCain can start measuring for drapes in the White House.
#4. The large Hispanic vote in CA. There is a wide gulf between the Mexicans and the Blacks in America. They just don’t like or trust each other. The only thing that might offset this would be if Bill Richardson is on the ticket in the VEEP spot. And...
#5. There's a lot of ticked-off, Hillary-supporting, women out there who, if they just stay home, along with many men who feel that Hillary has been dissed by the media and the Obama Campaign, can give McCain a 5% point gain.

True. Even with the known and proven illegal alien votes, he lost by only a few hundred votes.
It COULD be another Reagan/Mondale blow out. Maybe.
McCain may turn NH red (while losing everything down ballot,) but I think there will be a number of former red states from the past 2 elections turning blue. I don't expect McCain to do anywhere near as well as Dole did.
Yes, but the Republicans wanted Dornan gone almost as bad as the Democrats did, so nobody cared how he was beaten, as long as he was. Had control of the House turned on his election, then the Republicans and Newt would have made certain only legal votes counted, but they had seats to spare back then and saw an opportunity to get rid of one of those conservative types who embarrass them.

My take:
Because of Operation Chaos, McCainiac will win in a land-slide.
Our job #1 will be to convince as many people as possible that they must also vote for their local/state Republican candidate who is running for the House or Senate seat in November.
We must convince them that they will be making a major mistake if they vote for the “RAT candidate (even if he seems/is more conservative than the Republican candidate), for this reason: McCain will not be able to come through on all the promises they like that he has made to them if the ‘RATS have a large enough majority in Congress to block everything he wants to do. We must keep ‘RATS from having enough votes to overturn his vetos.
If we can increase our numbers in Congress on McCain’’s coat-tails, we (conservatives) will be in a much better position to exert our influence to stop him from advancing the parts of his agenda we hate.
I cannot overstate the importance of our “Job # 1”, enough, but we should hold back until we get closer to the election (when the polls show McCain’s big lead) before we go into full-court-press in implementing it.

Obama is a very big joke indeed! He may actually be a bigger joke than both Clintons and AlGore rolled up together. I never expected to see anything remotely resembling this clown running as a serious candidate for president.

Recent polls by the Public Policy Institute of California, the Los Angeles Times and, most recently, Field Research Corp. all have found McCain trailing either of the Democratic hopefuls substantially, thanks largely to the Democrats’ greater appeal to independent voters.
PPIC’s survey of likely voters revealed a 17-point lead for Obama over McCain, 54 percent to 37 percent, with Clinton’s margin a bit smaller. The Times poll’s lead for Obama over McCain was seven points, 47 percent to 40 percent, and for Clinton, three points, 43 percent to 40 percent. Field also found a 17-point lead for Obama, 52 percent to 35 percent, and the same lead for Clinton, 53 percent to 36 percent.
The remarkably similar results in the PPIC and Field polls, considered to be the most expansive of the three surveys, indicate that so far, McCain has been unable to make significant inroads into the all-important bloc of independent voters. His support in the mid-30 percent range is no higher than the Republican share of the electorate. Schwarzenegger’s effectiveness as a McCain campaigner is also problematic, since his popularity has been dropping sharply in recent months.

I believe there are about 1.2 million Jews in California, which has an overall population of about 37 million, so it’s roughtly 3% Jewish.

I wasn’t really disputing you. You’re right on both counts, and we know how close even large-state contests can be. What might be realistic for the swing from their regular pattern—from 80-85% Democratic to maybe, 65-75%, depending on how big a blowout Obama would have to suffer nationally?
That’d be maybe a 15% swing on 4% of the vote? That’s a little over a half (.6) % of the total vote. Not nothing.
What is being suggested, on a daily basis, by a great many folks, both in the trenches and politically connected, is that Republicans dump McCain at the nominating convention, select someone more representative of the party and win in November.
The circumstances in late 2008 are similar to those that prevailed in late 2006 in California. The Democrats have zilch for candidates, a get whitey intellectual and a Clinton, who even Democrats hate. A Republican victory will be easy for even an average Republican with little name recognition. A number of governors and/or congress critters/ will do.
What Republicans don't need are one of the new, neutered Republicans like Romney, Schwarzenegger or McCain.
