Special Groups criminals around Iraq disrupted
BAGHDAD – Coalition forces captured five suspected Special Groups outlaws during operations in Baghdad and near Hillah Friday and Saturday.
Acting on intelligence information, Coalition forces conducted a raid on the suspected residence of a Special Groups leader and recruiter east of Hillah, about 180 km south of Baghdad. The man was wanted for running Special Groups recruiting efforts, as well as ordering assassinations and directing the specialized training of Special Groups criminals.
Coalition also captured an associate of the targeted individual.
During a separate operation in northeast Baghdad, Coalition forces conducted a raid on the residence of a suspected senior Iranian-trained Special Groups commander in Adhamiyah. Intelligence provided by Special Groups criminals already in custody indicated that the suspect ran all Special Groups criminal activities in southeastern Baghdad.
The targeted criminal’s reported close ties and connections to Iranian intelligence agents, along with his weapons and finance facilitations make him a key capture for Coalition forces.
Coalition forces also captured two associates of the targeted individual.
“Coalition forces’ operations over the last 24 hours have helped to degrade the Special Groups’ ability to terrorize and kill innocent Iraqis,” said U.S. Army Capt. Charles Calio, MNF-I spokesperson.

Operations target Baghdad bombing networks
BAGHDAD – Coalition forces detained 25 suspected terrorists, including two men wanted for their ties to Baghdad bombing networks, during operations Friday and Saturday targeting al-Qaeda around Iraq.
Coalition forces captured two men wanted in connection to car bombing networks and seven alleged associates in Baghdad and Taji. One of the wanted men is also believed to share his bombing expertise with several terrorist cells. Coalition forces detained an additional suspected terrorist while targeting associates of AQI senior leaders in the Southern Belt around Baghdad
An operation in Baqouba Friday that resulted in the capture of a wanted man and one associate led Coalition forces to additional operations Saturday. They detained another eight suspected terrorists for their alleged ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq leaders who travel through the area, about 40 kilometers north of Baghdad.
In Mosul, Coalition forces continued to pressure AQI and detained two suspects while targeting a terrorist leader who oversees the network’s finances. About 60 kilometers west of the city near Tal Afar, three suspected terrorists were detained during operations to disrupt the foreign terrorist facilitation network.
“Coalition forces continue to help the citizens of Iraq by ridding Iraqi neighborhoods of bomb makers and financers of terrorism,” said Maj. John Hall, MNF-I spokesman.

“Kurdish Paper: Cooperation Between Saddam Regime, Al-Qaeda”
SNIPPET: “The Kurdish daily Kurdistani Nwe has published a 2002 letter from the Iraqi presidency that it says proves that there was cooperation between the regime of Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda.
The letter, which appeared on the paper’s front page, was published by the intelligence apparatus of the Iraqi presidency and discussed an intention to meet with Ayman Al-Zawahiri in order to examine a plan drawn up by the Iraqi presidency to carry out a “revenge operation” in Saudi Arabia.”
