FBI busts “special interest” illegals
May 1, 2008
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2009935/posts
ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - FBI agents on Wednesday busted 10 people they termed “special interest illegal aliens” for allegedly trying to use fraudulent documents to get New Mexico drivers licenses.
A Motor Vehicle Division employee alerted police several weeks ago about what the employee believed to be a fraudulent attempt to get a license, according to an FBI news release.
Albuquerque police called the FBI, which worked with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement to investigate the incident.
The investigation showed that several New Mexico residents had allegedly been fabricating proof of residence documents to allow people from out of the country to obtain authentic licenses.
The FBI said the New Mexico residents were themselves illegal immigrants.
While the FBI isn’t saying which countries the 10 came from, the news release said “certain countries are associated with special national security concerns,” and that using the term “special interest alien” depends on which a given person is from.
According to the news release, investigators are still working on the investigation, and believe that dozens of “special interest illegal aliens” may have obtained New Mexico licensees using fraudulent documents.
Snippets: Scientists at City of Hope and the California Department of Public Health have developed a new ultrasensitive assay to detect botulinum neurotoxin. The toxin is one of the most poisonous substances known that can cause life-threatening disease, and is considered a major potential bioterrorism threat agent.
he Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identify botulinum neurotoxin as one of six "maximum threat" bioterrorism agents due to its potency, lethality and ease of production and transport. One gram of botulinum toxin could kill more than 1 million people, according to a 2001 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Report slams US food safety system
Snippets: The current system that guarantees the safety of food in the United States is in a state of crisis, a new report finds.
"One in four Americans are sickened by food-borne illness each year, that's 76 million people," Jeffrey Levi, executive director of Trust for America's Health said during a morning teleconference Wednesday. "That number is far too high, and major gaps in our nation's food safety system are to blame."
"The major problem with the current food safety system is that no one person is in charge," Levi said. "Instead, there are total of 15 federal agencies that play a role in administering some 30 laws related to food safety."
Wow, that’s some potent stuff!
Side note. If we get the predicted storm, we will probably lose power for a few days. Snowing like crazy now and with the wind blowing up 60MPH gusts, we will get some power lines down. We’ve stocked up on water, food, candles, etc.
Gotta love this Gore Bull warming!
Seven people accused of running an Upstate prostitution ring that authorities said trafficked in as many as 100 illegal aliens from Central and South America over the course of the past two years were sentenced today in federal court.
51 illegal aliens discovered in Arizona house
Border Patrol agents apprehended 51 illegal immigrants hiding inside a house Tuesday morning in Nogales, Arizona. Inside the home, agents discovered 41 males, seven females and three unaccompanied juveniles, all Mexican citizens.
Failure to deport cited ascause behind continued crime woes
Federal immigration officials failed to deport an illegal immigrant facing gang-related charges who is now charged with murdering a rival in a Springfield Mall parking lot.
Woman suspected of making fake IDs in her home
Deputies searched her home Friday and turned up counterfeit Social Security cards, drivers licenses and resident alien cards, along with other documents and $2,500 cash, according to the Bay County Sheriffs Office.
It's a crock. Photos of our driveway this winter appear to be from the arctic or antarctic. It DID warm up Gore's corporate bank account though (and is now an advertising company and media reporting* bonnanza).
*Green equates to the color of money and the greenies they perceive us to be as they attempt to fleece us in the name of carbon credits.

“ICE arrests U.S. citizen and 24 illegal aliens employed by a private contractor to work at Little Rock National Airport
ICE’s critical infrastructure protection mission makes a priority of airports”
PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: “LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) today arrested one U.S. citizen and 24 illegal aliens, employed by Naylor Concrete of Oklahoma City, performing contract work at the Little Rock National Airport.
Chance Coran, 25, a U.S. citizen, was arrested at the worksite, where he was the supervisor of a concrete crew working on airport property. Coran was arrested on an outstanding warrant for driving while intoxicated. ICE agents encountered the illegal alien workers while attempting to identify subjects working at the construction site.
The company that hired the workers was identified as Naylor Concrete, a sub-contractor working on the constructions site.
Twenty-three of the illegal aliens arrested were identified as male Mexican nationals. One of the illegal aliens was identified as being from Peru. All have been placed in removal proceedings for being in violation of U.S. immigration laws. Their immigration status makes it illegal for them to work in the United States. This law enforcement action was part of ICE’s ongoing efforts to target illegal workers with access to critical infrastructure worksites around the country, such as U.S. military installations, nuclear plants, airports and seaports.
At this time, none of those arrested have been identified as having worked at the Little Rock National Airport in the past.”

U.S. Strikes Known al-Qaida Target in Somalia
By Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, May 1, 2008 U.S. Central Command conducted a strike against a known al-Qaida target in Somalia yesterday, a Pentagon spokesman said today.
The strike was near Dusa Mareb, north of the Somali capital of Mogadishu.
U.S. officials would not confirm news reports that the strike killed Aden Hashi Ayro, the head of al-Qaida in Somalia, nor the means used in the strike.
When you have something like this, there is a certain amount of analysis that goes on, said Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman. While you are conducting that analysis, you want to be careful not to provide any information that potentially could be of use to the enemy.
Whitman said the strike is an example of U.S. policy in the war on terror.
We will pursue terrorists worldwide, he said. The U.S. is committed to identifying, locating, capturing and, if necessary, killing terrorists wherever they operate, train, plan their operations, or seek safe havens.
News reports said the strike killed eight people. U.S. officials have no information that substantiates any civilians being killed or injured. As a general rule, U.S. planners seek to minimize any affect of such strikes in civilians, a U.S. Central Command official said, noting that in many cases, planners abort a strike rather than endanger civilians.

Coalition Forces in Iraq Kill, Detain Terrorism Suspects
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, May 1, 2008 Coalition and Iraqi forces killed and captured suspected terrorists in various operations around Iraq over the past two days, military officials reported.
During operations in Iraq today:
— Coalition surveillance teams in the Tigris River Valley, 85 miles south of Mosul, saw armed men entering a vehicle behind a targeted building. Coalition aircraft engaged the vehicle and killed five of them. The vehicle then erupted with secondary explosions, indicating that weapons and ammunition likely were inside. Ground forces killed an additional suspected terrorist in the raid and detained another.
— An air weapons team used a Hellfire missile to engage and kill three enemy fighters in a vehicle around 2 a.m. in northeastern Baghdad. Earlier in the evening, coalition forces saw the men placing a homemade explosive before fleeing in the vehicle.
— Coalition aircraft struck a known Iranian-backed senior special groups leader in the Sadr City section of Bagdad at 2:17 p.m. The leader is responsible for criminal acts against Iraqi citizens and coalition forces, according to military intelligence. It is unclear whether the air strike injured or killed the targeted suspect, officials said.
— Troops captured an alleged suicide-car-bombing associate in Abu Ghraib, 10 miles west of Baghdad, and another man believed to be preparing to carry out a suicide attack.
— Iraqi and coalition forces in Tuz, some 50 miles south of Kirkuk, detained two suspected terrorists while targeting an individual believed to have long-standing ties to the local al-Qaida in Iraq network.
— Coalition troops captured two wanted individuals in Mosul during a raid targeting associates of al-Qaida in Iraq leaders.
— Coalition forces captured an alleged bombing network associate in Beiji.
In Iraq yesterday:
— Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, came under indirect fire and heavy machine gun fire from a vehicle in northeastern Baghdad. The soldiers retaliated and killed seven attackers.
— Soldiers from 1st Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, attached to the 4th Infantry Divisions 3rd Brigade Combat Team, saw enemy fighters loading multiple rockets onto a launch sled in Sadr City at about 3 p.m. The soldiers engaged the men before they could fire the rockets, killing five of them. About 20 minutes later, troops killed another man as he attempted to recover the rockets, which coalition forces later destroyed.
— Attackers in Sadr City fired rocket-propelled grenades at soldiers from 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment. The soldiers returned fire and killed three enemy fighters.
— Soldiers from 4th Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, received rocket-propelled-grenade and small-arms fire while emplacing barriers in northeastern Baghdad. The troops returned fire and killed three enemy fighters.
— Soldiers from 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, operating an unmanned aerial vehicle, witnessed two armed men, including one bearing a rifle on the rooftop of a house. Soldiers fired one Hellfire missile from the UAV, killing both enemy fighters and destroying their weapon.
— Enemy fighters attacked soldiers with small-arms fire in northeastern Baghdad around 8:10 p.m. The soldiers retaliated and killed two attackers.
— Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Divisions 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, positively identified an Iranian-backed special groups operative with an RPK machine gun. Acting in self-defense, the soldiers returned fire and killed the individual.
— Troops captured a wanted man and detained an additional suspect while targeting al-Qaida in Iraq operatives in Baghdad’s Mansour neighborhood. The wanted man is believed to be associated with an al-Qaida in Iraq leader responsible for car bombing and suicide attacks in the Iraqi capital.
— Coalition forces captured two suspected al-Qaida in Iraq terrorists in Mosul, using information gleaned from an April 21 operation. One suspect is a wanted man allegedly associated with several senior terrorist leaders in the city.
— Iraqi and coalition forces nabbed an alleged al-Qaida in Iraq operative in Kirkuk and an additional suspected terrorist. The alleged operative is believed to have ties to senior terrorist leaders both in Kirkuk and Mosul.

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
May 1, 2008
Statement by the President on Burma
White House News
The people of Burma have long awaited the opportunity to live in a true democracy. The referendum vote scheduled for May 10, 2008 could have been that opportunity. However, Than Shwe and his regime are ensuring that the referendum vote will be on a dangerously flawed constitution, and will not be free, fair, or credible. They continue to ignore calls from the Burmese people and the international community for a genuine process that could result in a legitimate constitution reflecting the will of the people, and they continue to carry out a campaign to intimidate voters, and to arrest those who dare speak out against the flaws of the referendum and draft constitution.
The regime has not acted on any of the measures called for by the United Nations Security Council and does not cooperate with Special Advisor Ibrahim Gambari. We have called for the early release of all political prisoners; implementation of measures to address the political, economic, humanitarian, and human rights issues that are of concern; and the creation of necessary conditions for a genuine dialogue with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all concerned parties and ethnic groups in order to achieve an inclusive national reconciliation. Furthermore, the regime has refused offers from Mr. Gambari to provide technical assistance or international monitors for the pending referendum.
Laura and I are committed to work for the people of Burma and help in their struggle to free themselves from the regime’s tyranny. I have signed a new Executive Order that will block all property and interests in property of designated individuals and entities determined to be owned or controlled by, directly or indirectly, the Government of Burma or an official or officials of the Government of Burma. This Executive Order expands existing authorities that allow the United States Government to target those who are responsible for supporting, empowering, and enriching the Burmese regime - a regime that exploits and oppresses the people of Burma.
The United States will continue to pressure Burma’s rulers until they respond to the legitimate calls of the Burmese people for a genuine dialogue leading to a democratic transition.

“National Security Division Launches New Office of Intelligence”
PRESS RELEASE SNIPPET: “WASHINGTON, D.C. Patrick Rowan, Acting Assistant Attorney General for National Security, today announced the formal launch of the Office of Intelligence within the Justice Departments National Security Division (NSD). The reorganization creates three new sections within the Office of Intelligence dedicated to the NSDs three primary intelligence related functions operations, oversight and litigation.
The Department of Justice has played a critical role in the nations effort to prevent acts of terrorism and to thwart hostile foreign intelligence activities. Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Departments Office of Intelligence Policy and Review (OIPR) has grown dramatically because of the steady increase in the number of applications it has handled under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) in an effort to ensure that Intelligence Community agencies have the authority necessary to conduct intelligence operations.
The creation of NSD in September 2006 brought OIPR under the umbrella of NSD and presented an opportunity to review the offices structure and expanding mission. Based on this review, the NSD decided to modify the structure of the office, given that its intelligence staff has grown from fewer than 20 lawyers in 2000 to almost 100 today, and that its intelligence operations have increased with the rise in FISA caseload. Moreover, the office has assumed an expanded role in conducting intelligence oversight and in coordinating FISA-related litigation.”

Iraqi Special Operations Forces capture Special Groups commander (Baghdad)
Multi-National Corps Iraq PAO
BALAD, Iraq Iraqi Special Operations Forces, advised by U.S. Special Forces captured a Special Groups commander in Baghdad April 30.
ISOF conducted the operation to detain the Special Groups commander who has been leading attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces in the area. The man is believed to be a weapons smuggler, and is reported to conduct improvised explosive device and indirect fire attacks.
Intelligence reports link him to an IED attack in October 2007 that killed four U.S. soldiers, and a mortar attack in October 2007 that killed one U.S. Soldier.
During the operation, ISOF received small-arms fire from enemy fighters.
Two armed individuals were seen running towards ISOF soldiers and were shot and killed.
The detention of this suspect will likely affect the ability of Special Groups criminals to conduct attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces in the area, and will possibly lead to the detention of additional criminals in the area, said Col. Bill Buckner, Multi-National Division Iraq spokesman.
