Dear Freepers: It is Time to Support John McCain
June 5 2008 | jveritas

Posted on 06/05/2008 6:25:12 PM PDT by jveritas

In this election we have very a clear choice to make.

A choice between Victory against Islamic Terrorism or surrender to our terrorist enemy.

A choice between free market capitalist economy or socialism.

A choice between constructionist judges or liberal judges who legislate from the bench.

A choice between Life for the unborn or abortion on demand going wild.

A choice between lower taxes or higher taxes.

A choice between small government or big government.

A choice between John McCain or Barack Obama.

Let us choose John McCain. A Patriot, a war hero, and would be an excellent President.

God Bless America and our brave troops.

Which ACLU SCOTUS picks are you referring to?

Why do you claim he opposed Alito and Roberts...

Because he did oppose them, and even came out publicly against Alito saying that "he wears his Conservatism on his sleeve."
He was either persuaded to, or decided to, vote yes for them by the rest of his gang of 14, so that is good, however the fact that he referred to conservatism as a pejorative term is not good. - Not good at all..

I am so unhappy about this election all the way around. - Thank you for your post. - bill

And I can site pages of legislation, supported by McCain, that fall right in line with a conservative agneda. But I bet you can’t cite pages of legislation that show Obama is better on any issue than McCain is. And since those are the only two candidates that have a chance of winning, I think the decision is quite clear.

*****************

You're quite right.

John McCain's voting record regarding abortion and pro-life issues:

Supports repealing Roe v. Wade. (May 2007)

Voted YES on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP. (Mar 2008)

Voted YES on barring HHS grants to organizations that perform abortions. (Oct 2007)

Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)

Voted YES on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)

Voted NO on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)

Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)

Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003)

Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)

Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions. (Oct 1999)

Voted YES on banning human cloning. (Feb 1998)

Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)

Expand embryonic stem cell research. (Jun 2004)

Rated 75% by the NRLC, indicating a mixed record on abortion. (Dec 2006)

Compare this to Obama's voting record with regard to the same issues:

Voted NO on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP. (Mar 2008)

Voted NO on prohibiting minors crossing state lines for abortion. (Mar 2008)

Voted YES on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)

Voted NO on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)

Voted YES on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)

Sponsored bill providing contraceptives for low-income women. (May 2006)

Rated 0% by the NRLC, indicating a pro-choice stance. (Dec 2006)

Bill Clinton is a right-winger compared to Obama.

To those who do not fear the main threat to our country - terrorism

"Terrorism" is not the main threat to this country. When there is nonsense like this going on, it becomes obvious that our own government is a much bigger threat to our way of life than any "terrorism" boogeyman.

I appreciate all of your arguments for voting for him, just don't see the same man that you are making yourself see.

He was not my first nor second choice - but that fight is over. He is the candidate.

It's him or obamama. It's him or Marxism - obamama is but a polished, programmed puppet. It's his puppeteers that would rule: He's but a mouthpiece...and out of his mouth has come the edicts: You will not drive SUV', we will control your thermostats (California already has the mechanisms in place and ready to go for controlling the level of heat/cooling in private homes. They tried to implement it but got shouted down. However, the mechanism remains ready go implement.)

They will dismantle our military - stated so over and over.

They will demand "reparations" and he is intent on rebuilding Africa - with our money - they are intent on getting our guns, he not only supports abortion, but the killing of newborns that make it through the partial birth abortion, (These last two are things he enthusiastically aroused himself to fight for in the Illinois Senate, though he was absent or 'no vote' for nearly every other bill.

And the list goes on.

It isn't a matter of one man (McCain) = it's a matter of loosing our freedoms. Our Constitution hangs by a thread. The obamama puppeteers have a big pair of scissors.

Get it?

Which depends on the corollary, “if the Democrat wins, the country will go to hell.” Anyone care to argue the corollary isn’t true?

We didn't "go to hell" under Clinton and freakin' Obama is nowhere near as bad as him.

If it were Hillary, I’d say it’s a wash..either way...but it’s Barack Obama.

You honestly think that Hillary is more palatable than Obama?!? I love how Obama winning the nomination has affected people's cognitive dissonance.

While I don't agree with jveritas on this particular topic he is one hell of a Patriot and FReeper.

This is what I love about FR. A lot of freepers, myself included, think that Mr. Veritas is totally wrong on a lot of issues, but he's contributed a heck of a lot to this site, and is never a jerk to people, so we stick up for him even though politically we agree with the n00b attacking him. We're like one big disfunctional family. We may have our problems, but don't mess with one of our own.

Vote Obama, I’m getting weary on this crap.

Therein, my friend, lies the problem. There is no energy behind this candidate. I, like you, am weary ...and very disappointed. I believe that the majority of us who are put off by McCain would, in fact, like to be wrong. We are desperately looking for someone to rally behind and genuinely support. Regrettably, McCain is not that man.

My hope, and I believe that of many others, is that he will come to his senses and add a strong VP to the ticket. Frankly, based on his speech Tuesday night (one of the worst speeches I have seen in my entire 60-year life), gives me not a lot of hope.

I am tired of all this talk about 'the country will go to hell' or 'we are already a screwed third world country'... jeeze, we are the United States of America. We've overcome Civil War, World Wars, Depressions, Recessions, Carters and Clintons; the worst of the worst this world has seen and yet we always grow stronger.

Boo Freaking Ya, Nehrling! If I hear one more "if Obama wins we'll be under sharia law" or "if McCain wins we won't have a 1st Amendment anymore", I'll puke. I don't necessarily agree that we overall as a country always grow stronger, but people put too much into what the office of President is capable of, for better or for worse. I look out for #1 and regardless of who is President, I'll continue to grow financially, professionally, spiritually and artistically over the next 8 years.

“Because he did oppose them”

No, as someone else mentioned on this thread, he voted to confirm both.

“and even came out publicly against Alito saying that “he wears his Conservatism on his sleeve.”

This was a unsourced claim by Fund of the WSJ. McCain said that Alito was a “magnificent choice”, and insisted he would appoint justices “along the lines of Roberts and Alito,” and that he would “try to find clones” of the two.

To answer your question (from your pulled comment) Dane had been a longtime FReeper and was also a troll.

As much as he had his head up his butt on many issues, I honestly think the guy was sincere in his beliefs and not necessarily a "troll". I battled with him for years on the drug war and illegal immigration, but believe it or not, he was actually a reasonably nice dude when you caught up with him on a non-political thread.

Last thing I heard, there was a mass exodus from “that” site, and they had started another one.

Try about 5. Each one gayer than the previous.

I love how Obama winning the nomination has affected people's cognitive dissonance.

Ever since Tuesday I have been feeling like crap. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong and yet you diagnosed it perfectly - cognitive dissonance. Now that I know the problem, I'm going to grab some Maloxx. I should be fine in a few hours. Thanks!
