As the door begins to close on his tenure, Bush is increasingly drawing on selected events of the past to argue that history will vindicate him on Iraq, terrorism, trade and other controversial issues.
Historical analogies have become a staple of Bush speeches and interviews this year, whether he is addressing regional leaders in Egypt or talking to workers at an office park in suburban St. Louis. ...

It's not as if Big Media doesn't do the same thing in reverse: conveniently forgetting about the Clinton recession, Algore's Kyoto protocols that would have wrecked the economy, the anthrax attacks that followed 9/11, etc., etc. -Wm Tate,

If he means judges and tax cuts, then yes. If he means spending habits, then certainly not.

Not if the MSM remains liberal he won’t. In 20 years, 911 will be unquestionably our fault, Bush murdered Muslims for sport, etc.

Didn’t close the borders or build the fence.
Didn’t fight against the global warming hoax and embraced it instead.
Didn’t shrink government, grew it.
PLAYED BY THE DEMS rules and the new tone got the country screwed.
Allowed Terrorists to control us. Instead of checking our shoes, blow up some $^&*ing terrorists like we used to do.

George W. Bush will be remembered as the 21st century’s Harry Truman...like Truman he will leave the White House with the media hounding him...Congress trashing him...and even his own party wishing he could leave sooner.
But trust me...Bush drew a line in the sand of the Middle East...next time one of those little funny countries gets the idea to have some fun by backing terrorism...their leaders are going to remember Saddam Hussein’s body swinging at the end of that rope.

You just don’t know how presidents will be perceived in light of future events. For example, Clinton took a hit in his image after Sept. 11th, as in retrospect, it was seen that his inactions against terrorist attacks in the ‘90s helped set the stage for that to happen.
When Reagan left office on Jan. 20, 1989, nobody said that Reagan made history by our side winning the cold war, because communism was still in place in the Soviet Union and eastern Europe then. Only in retrospect did we see that the policies put in place by Reagan led to the collapse of communism in Europe.
Harry Truman had poll number approvals about as low as Bush does today, but in retrospect, historians have given him higher grades than people at the time did.
With Bush, let’s see in about 20 years. If we continue without terrorist attackes, if al Qaeda and similar groups are defeated, and if Iraq becomes a stable democracy in a troubled part of the world, the historical judgement of Bush may be very different than what people think today.

“”The war on terror will determine my legacy and how Iraq fits into that will determine my legacy.’ “ “
We have seen several articles in the last week discussing how we are on the verge of victory in Iraq and how the radical muslims are losing support through out the middle east. The unhesitating war on terrorism and the broad tax cuts will be his greatest calling cards in the light of history.

Depends on your ‘definition’ of success and failure.
If progressives consider something a failure in their terms, it must be a success in mine!
Just like using the term ‘unpopular’ reminds me of being back in high school with those looking for approval of the ‘cool kids’.

I think history will be kind to President Bush. All the spending is not his fault and Congress has done much to cause the spending problem. Look at what they are doing now. spending like crazy and not caring if anyone has bread on the table or fuel to get to work. Congress is the real disgrace. As for the press, its done its best to destroy this country and will probably succeed.

George W. Bush will be remembered as the 21st centurys Harry Truman No, much bigger than Truman.
Pres. Bush has changed the face of the Middle East. He kept us safe for 8 years despite overwhelming odds that said it couldn't be done. He destroyed Al Queda and basically safe guarded the entire free world.
President Bush will be remembered very very fondly.

Here’s your legacy. History will compare you to president Carter and the big debates will be who was the biggest idiot ever to occupy the White House.
Conservative historians will say Carter and Liberal
historians will say you. Meanwhile 2 generation of Americans
will suffer for your incompetance.
Nice job.

You are absolutly right. The effects of the Bush doctrine have largely benefited all of us. Giving credit where it is due has escaped most of us. We concentrate on what we don’t like, not what has worked.

Meanwhile 2 generation of Americans will suffer for your incompetance. Only childish ones will claim to "suffer" and will whine much as liberals do...those who don't know how they would have suffered in a US of A threatened every day by a new terror threat on a train, school, mall or water depot had we not had a good man in the Oval Office during these years.
Too many have been influenced heavily by the MSM jihad and their slant on a Repub President who is, in fact, an extremely competent leader and man of character of very high quality.
