"We need to minimize it, and for now thats McCain."
If you can convince me that McCain is going to minimize it, I'll gladly listen
If you choose to believe McCain with his promises of lower taxes tough stance in the WOT etc., go ahead. Personally, I don't believe a word he says.
McCain has shown conservative to many times he is willing to screw us. After all he brags about reaching across the isle to "get things done"

Actually- this ruling just inspired Judge Nap on FOX to say this was a GREAT and HISTORIC ruling- one of the finest in 50 years, he said..
Breathaking.
This is appalling, a nightmare..Justice Kennedy has nullified the value of citizenship..I can’t wrap my mind around this..

The Court has undermined the distinction, which the federal courts have always maintained, between civilian and military justice. The Court has determined that an enemy combatant, whether he's a soldier of a sovereign state, or a free-lance terrorist, has the same habeas corpus rights as a domestic criminal. POWs or other detainees during a time of war, now have, essentially, Miranda-style rights.
This is a black day for our nation.

I hear that. I think at the end of the day its gonna mean that Terrorists are NOT gonna get a nice “hotel” with kind questioners. They are gonna get pits of hell in places like Pakistan and Egypt. If they have any freakin sense, they should be TERRIBLY disappointed by this ruling.

"McCain pledged many times that he will appoint conservative judges like Roberts and Alito"
And you believe him?? Seriously, he also at one time said he wouldn't appoint judges like Alito who wear "Conservatism" on their sleeve

Ordinary people who voted in the Republican primaries selected John McCain, not the Republican Party. The party closes rankes around a candidate only after he became the presumptive nominee.McCain became the presumptive nominee with 31% of the total primary vote. Winner take all, open primaries helped him become the nominee. He gamed the system. McCain was the only top tier candidate of either party not to win his home state by more than 50%. He won AZ with 48% of the vote.
Because the GOP nominated its maverick as the standard bearer, issues like amnesty, cap and trade legislation to address global warming, and drilling in ANWAR and offshore are off the table in the national election. Obama and McCain hold similar views. Amnesty will destroy this country with a stroke of a pen and cap and trade will wreck the economy. Some choice.
If McCain can vote on the basis of principle and conscience over party, why can't conservatives do the same thing? RAMM

In hind site, yes. But at the time of his nomination, Souter did a good job of convincing everyone that he was an originalist, IIRC

ooops, meant to address that part too. I agree with you there. I just really detest McCain and am irate that I have to possibly give him my vote to keep the Marxist anti American POS Obama out.
And what ticks me off even more is McCain not only knows that, but is counting on it.

Well, there’s two votes. I have doubled my vote total since this morning!!! With enough momentum, maybe we could convince McCain to name me VP. Then, on Jan. 21, we introduce Articles of Impeachment. Unlike Obama, I was not born in Kenya, was never a Muslim, and don’t have a wife who is a racist *itch. And Father Ned has never condemned America during a sermon.

The President should defy this ruling! That would require that he have a pair. Judging from his recent apologies for his "Cowboy rhetoric" during his first term, it would appear that is not the case.

Cant we just send them all back to Iraq and Afghanistan? Actually, another ruling that came down leaves the door open for us to extradite the criminals to Iraq or Afghanistan to be tried and punished, which ultimately leaves the door open to quick trial and hanging. If the President plays this right, the detainees could end up with less procedural protection than before.

"The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times." The laws and Constitution are designed to protect the citizens of the United States of America. The Constitution is not applicable to the enemies of the USA in wartime.
The leftist oligarchy in the SCOTUS is doing its level best to dismantle the Republic...
It makes me sad.

I have no idea why people think that a liberal like McCain is any diff from Obama. he ain't gonna appoint conservatives, he's gonna appoint squishy moderates... My guess is that Anthony Kennedy is McCain's kind of Justice.
