Report: Israel Held Drill As Preparation For Attack On Iran

U.S. officials say Israel carried out a large military exercise this month that appeared to be a rehearsal for a potential bombing attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, The New York Times reported on Friday.

Citing unidentified American officials, the newspaper said more than 100 Israeli F-16 and F-15 fighters took part in the maneuvers over the eastern Mediterranean and Greece in the first week of June.

It said the exercise appeared to be an effort to focus on long-range strikes and illustrates the seriousness with which Israel views Iran's nuclear program. The newspaper said Israeli officials would not discuss the exercise...

Israel will take out Iran's nuclear program with extreme prejudice if it comes down to it. Israel cannot abide a nuclear Iran. However, and Israeli attack on Iran is logistically difficult and Israel might only have one strike with 100 or so fighter-bombers to take out dozens of sites, many of which are either in urban centers or are buried. There is a fear that Israel would have to use tactical nukes for some locations. Fallout, radioactive, and political would be a nightmare. The other issue is that any Israeli attack would involve the US on some level as the strike would cross over Iraq. Therefore the Iranians will hold us responsible and retaliate against US. The cost is real to the US and the gain of an Israel attack is not as great since its results would be limited, barring use of tactical nukes.
The other solution is an American attack on the WMD program, which is also a threat to the US. We face the same retribution but it actually works.

Americans will have to pay the price for Israel’s attack on Iran whether Israel fails or succeeds. Our toxic relationship means that both countries are held reponsible for the deeds of the other one.

First of all, I am not a detractor of Israel. I support Israel 100% when they are not stealing our nuclear secrets and giving to the Soviet Union.

Second of all, I believe that it would be in the US's best interest for those nuclear sites to be taken out, whether Israel or the US does it. I am not shy about saying the US should do it, nor do I believe the US should rely on Israel to do it.

Lastly, The strikes on the Syrian complex took place before the latest corruption investigation of the Olmert office. Olmert is hanging on to his political life . Olmert is talking seriously about including the future of Golan Heights and the Temple Mount.

If we do, do it, we should prepare for retaliation.
