You get upset when I broadbrush the entire Christian community by the un-sacred acts of a few, but that is exactly what many on this thread have done...but are unable to see the irony if not the hypocrisy.

What was that message from Jesus about pointing out the speck in the eyes of others but not seeing the beam in they own?

Anyone who doesn’t have basic respect for religious objects of another religion do not deserve to have their own respected by anyone else. Taking those books and burning them is the same thing as when some left wing idiot takes the American flag and burns that. It may be only cloth, but the symbolism and underlying intention, not to mention message, is understood even if it isn’t verbalized.

So all the people on this thread who spent time exhibiting and rationalizing obviously abhorrent behavior should look to the beam in their own eye because I will guarantee you that if you don’t, Jesus will. And by then it will be too late for you.

BTW - I’m not surprised when I see SOME Jews burning Bibles, or SOME Muslims burning Torahs or SOME Christians burning the Koran.

Unfortunately all three religions have adherents that don’t understand the basic principles of their religious teachings...it’s what religious wars are all about.

And that’s my point. Nobody is clean, nobody holds the moral high ground. The world id full of religious zeolots who would grind out the others if given the chance.

You know, because God told them to do so.

It was further down the thread, the exchange is below. I was referencing the selectivity of the outrage, in this case the insistence that there would be greater outrage than a 200 plus post thread were the “victims” of the act Jews, disproved by the two threads within a week which drew no attention at all.

Were this thread about the distribution of New Testaments, the reaction would be the polar opposite. If one opposes the desecration of the New Testament, imo consistency requires similar opposition to the desecration to the desecration of the Koran or Torah.

If you advocate random distribution of New Testaments, I’ve no particular problem with that, you must accept distribution of Korans or Scientology tracts, else define yourself as a hypocrite. That’s one reason distribution (general, not clubs) should not take place in public schools or public buildings. I’ve seen that advocated, but that opens the door to Korans and every imaginable cult.

But imagine the worldwide uproar if this was in a Christian country burning the Torah!

You're kidding, right. Forget Europe, how about the US. Desecration of synagogues and cemetaries aren't uncommon, and no great uproar ensues.

A few weeks ago an Orthodox synagogue in Miami was burned to the ground, the Torah stolen, part of it left. It wasn't a worldwide "scandal". I posted a thread only because it brought Kudus from Stormfront which sometimes draws interest here. 5 or 6 responses if I recall

The week before a couple girls arrested for desecrating a synagogue. Someone posted a , that got a dozen replies.

So even on FR, there's no uproar. And these are criminal acts, not some white supremecist nutball buying copies of the Tanakh and burning them.

Not only no uproar, but no one connects these acts with Christianity, as is done here.

Not upset: I object. You continue to equate Christianity as on an equal ground with Islam. And you say, “It will be too late,” as though Jesus wields justice the way “allah” is said to do. Jesus wields grace and mercy, while teaching us to call a viper a viper, and a liar a liar.
Another honor killing in the news this week, BTW. And in the US. Not Christian, Muslim.

No, I equate the actions of some Christians with the actions of some Muslims. You have tried to distance yourself from bad people doing bad things in the name of Christianity so you should understand this.

It appears some want to eliminate Islam, as if that were possible. Only Islam can fix Islam and we cannot possibly win a war with them. The best we can hope for is to support and encourage the moderates/modern thinkers to oppose and eliminate the extremists.

Burning their most sacred book (no matter what you think of it) will not serve that end and only give the extremists more influence and power.

People who advocate such actions are part of the problem.

I’m afraid that you still don’t get it: Islam, the religion, cannot be equated to Christianity. The G-d of Christianity offers forgiveness while we are sinners, to be reconciled and “do well” in this life and to live with Him in peace in the next. The idol of Islam judges by harsher methods, requiring sacrifice and killing for the opportunity to continue sacrifice and killing in the next life.

The copies of the Koran — were they in English? If so, doesn’t that make them not “holy”?
I’m polite, so I write the Lord’s name in a way that shouldn’t offend an observant Jew. However, I don’t worry that if I goof on line, I’ll be stoned by even the most extreme Jews, who are at odds with the majority of the strict Orthodox. I don’t know of any such communities or Rabbis in Texas. There are Imams in Texas who preach physical violence and death to those who do not dress and behave as they interpret Islamic law. (on Centro browser, can’t post links)
