Tony Snow Has Died

CNN and MSNBC both have been paying tribute to him this morning; all kind words from all folks who have been talking about him.

Griff Jenkins is doing a fabulous job on FNC this morning. I didn’t know that Griff was his producer and was very close to Tony. He talks about Tony’s humility, something I think all of us saw in him. A true gentleman who will be missed.

This is indeed very, very sad news. Tony Snow was a gentleman who espoused his principles in a way that invited his opponents to give them thought.

I certainly hope he was able to achieve much of the objective of insuring his family’s security before he left. He certainly sacrificed much to serve the Country and I hope the Country proves to be deserving of his service.

Tony had a strong relationship with God,

remember saying after the dead of Cardinal O'Connor, how much I missed him.

Tony sent me a response saying he did too, but Cardinal O Connor was an example of how to live his life and how to die.

Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend, Tony Snow. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their children, Kendall, Robbie, and Kristi. The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character.

Tony was one of our Nation’s finest writers and commentators. He earned a loyal following with incisive radio and television broadcasts. He was a gifted speechwriter who served in my father’s Administration. And I was thrilled when he agreed to return to the White House to serve as my Press Secretary. It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day.

He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work. His colleagues will cherish memories of his energetic personality and relentless good humor.

All of us here at the White House will miss Tony, as will the millions of Americans he inspired with his brave struggle against cancer.

One of the things that sustained Tony Snow was his faith – and Laura and I join people across our country in praying that this good man has now found comfort in the arms of his Creator.

Then, I am mistaken and corrected. I hadn’t seen any of the other tributes this morning. It is great that they are showing tribute to him.

When he left the White House, I kind of thought it was because of his health, but I hoped I was wrong.
