District Leaders Announce New Handgun Regulations
The Washington Post ^ | July 14, 2008 | Robert E. Pierre and Marcia Davis

District residents will be able to keep a handgun in the home for self-defense but that right would be limited to the home and not outside it, city leaders said today, announcing new gun regulations in response to the Supreme Court's recent ruling striking down the city's handgun ban.

Gun owners will have to pass vision and written tests, provide a photo with their application to register a gun, and submit their weapon for ballistics testing. Guns will also still require trigger locks.

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) and interim Attorney General Peter J. Nickles announced the regulations alongside D.C. Council Chairman Vincent G. Gray (D), Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) and several other council members.

The regulations are an effort to maintain some gun control while complying with the Supreme Court's 5 to 4 ruling last month.

They are going to keep trying until Obama gets to replace one of the 5 Justices that voted the "wrong" way.

(Guns will also still require trigger locks.)

In other words citizens of DC still have no right to self defense with a handgun.
There are 2 laws that liberals/socialist instituted that almost always get citizens killed.
Protection from Abuse Orders and Trigger Lock laws.

“Guns will also still require trigger locks.”

That part (at the least) clearly runs afoul of Heller.

I thought that the “Trigger Locks” requirement was also struck down. Or am I confused...again.

Guns will also still require trigger locks.

Weren't trigger locks an important part of the case? I thought I read in one of the majority opinions that to have the right to have a gun but not have the right to have it "unlocked" (my word) is foolish...or something like that.

"District residents will be able to keep a handgun in the home for self-defense but that right would be limited to the home and not outside it"

Still sounds like infringement to me!

So when’s the lawsuit, and will there be a temporary injunction to stop them?

Don’t even need a new lawsuit...the lower court enforcing Heller will strike down DC’s new try.

File law suits again..........take em back to court !

But not the district. Take the individuals who wrote , presented and passed this BS to court. The people who do this to other citizens can not hide behind a shield of office when they attempt too circumvent a “proven” constitutional right too keep and bear arms !

Take em down ......recall votes, attacks on their ability too rule or govern anything much less a city, county or state.

Doom on this seditious trash !

Looks like DC is planning to keep this thing in the courts for as long as they can.

So when do U.S. Federal Marshals take Mayor Fenty and the city council members away in leg irons for defying a lawful ruling of the supreme court of the land?

It's a law in CT that ALL guns sold have to leave the store LOCKED after purchase. My cellar is awash in unused locks. Oh, there's also a CT law (somewhat enforeced depending on gun store) that you have to have a valid carry permit to even pick one up & look at it in the store.

Nice, huh?

“even pick one up & look at it in the store’

Geez. Gotta trust the store clerk/owner, then.
