Why China is No Longer a Communist Country
The China Teaching Web ^ | 7/24/2008 | Robert Vance

Posted on 07/25/2008 2:46:56 AM PDT by robertvance

While Mao’s body has been amazingly preserved since his death in 1976, it seems that his spirit has not survived the test of time. He may lie in eternal peace inside his Mausoleum but the world around him has changed considerably; China is no longer the gray and drab country that it was during Mao’s time. It is now a place where people can dream and then go out and make that dream come true. It is not like the old days. People other than just high government officials can drive cars. Chinese people can do business and store up wealth for themselves. Peasants can go to the university now; finding food to eat is no longer such a grave concern. Just around the corner from where Chairman Mao lies in State, the American restaurant chain McDonald’s is full of Chinese people enjoying greasy food and a cool environment. Inside homes, people can watch Western movies on DVD and even occasionally on state owned television. The world is just a mouse click away for the millions of Chinese people who have access to the Internet. Friends and family are no longer afraid of discussing politics with each other. It is even acceptable to criticize the government behind closed doors. All this is happening as Chairman Mao sleeps peacefully at Tiananmen Square. If only he knew.

“The Tibetans would beg to differ.”

I’m not convinced this is true. The vast majority of them seem to be living their lives in peace, free to practice their religion. What China will not allow them to do is petition, demonstrate, or engage in violence aimed at seperatism.

“What China will not allow them to do is petition, demonstrate, or engage in violence aimed at seperatism.”

Of course, that’s the Chicom way.

“New York-based watchdog Human Rights Watch said on Thursday Nepal was cracking down on the Tibetan protesters under pressure from China, violating their human rights with arbitrary arrests, sexual abuse of women and beatings in detention.”

And of course, Bejing denies it. http://tinyurl.com/598kkc

Communist-Lite and Communist are still the same thing.

Why do you defend communism?

Human Rights Watch. Isn’t that one of the groups claiming prisoners are being tortured at Gitmo? I take their claims with a grain of salt.

Am I defending Communisim? If you read all that I and others with similar views have written here, you’ll see that your question is flawed.

Rebelbase - in case you haven’t realized, compound w is the newest and most virulent ChiCom troll on this forum.

It is a liar, a hack, and a self-proclaimed lover of genocide.

cw - ask mtn climber about what he experienced in Tibet before you post the PLA talking points again.

Trolls like you? How much are the ChiComs paying you, btw? Or are you merely doing it out of love for their “values”?

It seemed to me that the Chinese military personnel got a perverse joy from causing fear and sometimes death to the Tibetans.

Whatever Mainland China is today, it has retained two things from Communism: 1)a hatred of religion, and 2)a complete lack of the guilt and self-hatred that drives the “western” Left.

I don’t think the chicom troll or its fellow travelers here will respond to your eye witness account of what’s really happening in Tibet.

On what do you base your perception of “perverse joy?” My own perception, supported by several people I’ve talked to is that Tibetan militant seperatists thought they could stir up crap and disrupt the Olympics. China doesn’t take well to that sort of thing.

"But should the US or any other country impede the progress of another country simply because they may someday have an edge over you?"

Yes. I have a hard time imagining that someone would advocate otherwise (unless Chinese global dominance is desired end-game). China is actively working at our destruction. We're supposed to leave the gloves on while they're bare-knuckling us to the groin?

And yes, you misread my post. I have no problem with market reforms IN China. Very encouraged about them, in fact. It's OUR policies in regards to China that I take issue with.

Oh, let me think here for a millisecond....

Like generally permitting trade over mountain passes with Nepal, but occasionally using these traders for target practice with their AK-47’s.

Like what they do when they find a Tibetan with a picture of the Dali Lama....The person becomes homeless and jobless.

Like how they move tourists at Tibetan border crossings...the point their gun at you and move you to where you are to stand.

The Chinese communists worship evil just like mass murdering communists everywhere. They worship evil and enjoy inflicting pain on others. There.

To my knowledge, the Nazi Party has never been part of the US government. The Chinese propaganda ministry and Xinhua journalists are part of the Chinese government.

Where do you draw the line then as far as how you define China? Newspaper part of government, therefore reflection of China's overriding ambition? You don't see them print anything regarding 9/11 now do you?

NAZI media not part of government, therefore not a reflection of a certain number of Americans at all?

I understand you took a hike there. But do you have any other *reliable* evidence to back up your claims?

I understand the tension between Tibetans (not all of whom live in Tibet, as you may know) and the Chinese government over economic, cultural, and environmental issues. But no, I do not accept the premise that Chinese governmental policy toward Tibet is as monsterous as you suggest.

As I’ve said before — and maybe I should put this in my sig as some sort of disclaimer - I have no illusions about China being some sort of Shagri-La, but I do see the amazing changes that have occured here over time. That’s how to evaluate Chinese government and society, not as a snapshot, but over time.

You still see China's industrialization in combative terms. Yet, you fail to see that, logistically, raising the standard of living for 1.3 billion people will require a tremendous amount of resources. A level that would surprass the US. How else is it going to look like?

And yes, you misread my post. I have no problem with market reforms IN China. Very encouraged about them, in fact. It's OUR policies in regards to China that I take issue with.

Free trade, free market, .... all consistent with historical US policies. From the League of Nations to the UN and from GATT (General Agreement of Trade and Tarriffs) to the WTO. All have rules and procedures to follow. All spear headed by the US. China has made her way into a system structured by America. You should be happy with it.

"but really, it is hard to find much evidence of communism at work in China these days."

Yea, you actually have to open your eyes and look at the machine guns that the police standing next to their overturned armored vehicles are pointing at the kids...

Tyranny is still tyranny. People in prison for attending a house church service, forced to make junk t-shirts for ignorant Americans has nothing whatsoever to do with communism.

A Tibetan took me to a big rock the Chinese soldiers hide behind to shoot the Tibetans using the trail over the pass to Nepal. He told me that is where they shoot the
Tibetans. There were shell casings littering the ground in this spot. The casings were 7.62X39 and colored green.

" but the point has come where so many freedom “genies” can’t be put back in the lamp"

But a .50 cal machine gun does a pretty good job of putting them in a coffin.
