Putin taking Russia down 'very harmful' path: McCain

Russia has become an autocracy under Vladimir Putin and the Russian president-turned-prime minister has taken the country down a "very harmful" path, Republican presidential candidate John McCain said Sunday.

"We need to improve their behavior," McCain told ABC television when asked about his threat to exclude Russia from the Group of Eight if he wins the White House in November.

"His government -- former president Putin, and now Prime Minister Putin -- has taken his country down a path that I think is very harmful," McCain said. "They've become an autocracy."

"In the last week or so, look at Russia's actions," he added. "They cut back on their oil supplies to the Czechs, because the Czechs made an agreement with us. They have now thrown out -- or forced out -- BP out of Russia.

"They continue to put enormous pressures on Georgia in many ways. They're putting pressure on Ukraine. They are blocking action in the United Nations Security Council on Iran," McCain said.

"We want better Russian behavior internationally, and we have every right to expect it," he said. "And I will do what I can to see that they reverse many of the behavior patterns which have really been very unhelpful to peace in the world."

"Unhelpful to peace in the world" ??

What a moron.

His time as a POW should have taught him -- Communists don't want peace, they want VICTORY.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

I’m totally voting McCain and urge everyone to do so. But Putin is looking out for Russia’s interests which I can’t say Washington is for us. Russia’s economy is rapidly growing with millions coming out of poverty. They’re promoting large Russian families and teaching Christianity in the school systems. They have a flat tax. They’re also telling the human rights orgs to shut the @#$ 23p. Thus they’re cracking down hard on immigrants. This is stuff our politicians should be doing.

They’re not communists anymore. We would consider Ireland and Italy allies right? Even though Ireland and Italy do not have a government that’s exactly like ours in the US, they’re still considered democratic, free nations. Russia is now the same way. They have a government called Sovereign Democracy. Putin has exceeded his powers but he’s doing it in the interests of ethnic Russians and not globalists.

from what i read most russians like a strong leader,

nor do they think of russia ever being “democratic” in the western sense.

it’s their country.

Fairly strong wordage in the language of diplo-speak, actually. I have no problems with how McCain said this, plus he's right.

Yeah, the Russians can't stand their count of millionaires skyrocketing at an astronomical rate. Trickle down is complete BS, right?

Sovereign Democracy?

The Divine Right of Dictators?

Russia is now the same way. They have a government called Sovereign Democracy. Putin has exceeded his powers but he’s doing it in the interests of ethnic Russians and not globalists.

So when they trump up false charges to take over joint ventures with multinational firms and others, that is just Democracy in action, right?

Let me guess, you live in New Jersey? ;-)

Cheers!

Technically, Russia’s moves aren’t all that good for the US government, and I don’t mean us, the average civilian. But if you look at the big picture, they are good for “Western Man” and Western Civilization.

Does anyone else think McCain might declare war on Russia once he’s president if they don’t change their ways?

I as well am going for McCain, however Putin and his hand picked Kremlin KGB crew are arming and supporting Iran. Iran's Islamic butchers are responsible for murdering our troops in Iraq, which makes Moscow the enemy supporting proxies doing Putin's dirty work.

Russia, under the likes of Putin and his stooge remains an enemy of freedom.

The US Government, is pushing for the death of the nation-state. Notice noone attacked Obama for his talk of tearing down the borders. The Feds want globalism which means our jobs go overseas to cheap workers.

Russia is moving in the opposite direction and has legislated to protect the jobs of ethnic Russians!

If natural gas and crude oil prices were to crash (not likely) so would Putin neo-Soviet energy empire (most of which was stolen).

I’m wondering though, are they really arming Iran? How do we really know for sure? And if they are, then that’s a nasty problem. But I know that since Russia is moving nationlist - in the opposite direction of globalism - they’ve been getting hit with lots of “anti Russia” stories.

I read your about page. The thing I can’t stand is the Bible Prophecy teachers who claim Russia is going to swoop down and invade Israel. That’s just as silly an idea as Jamaica invading China. Ain’t gonna happen.

Exactly. It’s their country and this is how they do things.

“We need to improve their behavior,” McCain said.....

No Senator McCain, we don’t NEED to do anything. What Putin is doing is exactly what you and every other politician needs to: look out for his country’s best interests.
The internal affairs of other nations are none of our damn business and we would be well served to recognize that.

Or, we could just cut off Russia from all international phone lines and the internet. We'd eliminate spam completely! And they'd have another revolution...
