The Central Valley should not feel this one.

Felt it pretty good out here in Palmdale. I predicted it to be 5.9 when it happened...I got pretty close!

We had an aftershock from the 7.3 a few years ago. In math class. We all felt it sinc we were sitting in those hard wood school chairs, but the prof, on his feet, felt nothing. That was a 3.5

“ground acceleration.”
that’s it...this may be the same thing if “only 5.8” some quakes do this thing....

I NEVER got use to earthquakes when living in LA. I’m glad to be back in tornado alley because I never want to go through anything like the quake in 1994. Hope you and all the other SoCal Freepers are doing OK.

Tsunami?

Unlikely for a modest inland quake.

LOL!

We laughed at the time, but actually Ken did the right thing - darted under his desk.

TV studios are dangerous places to be during an earthquake - all those overhead lights etc.

Never made it to Valdez, saw film of the area before and after on history channel and pbs, incredible devastation .. a lot of casualties ,,

I remember visiting an area near Anchorage where land had dropped dramatically, massive land collapse with houses trees roads just spread all over the place.. that thing was anywhere from a 9.0 to a 9.4 , it rang bells all over the world.. massive tsunamis..

Right after it stopped I told my assistant who’s never experienced an earthquake I guestimated 5.7. Just threw it out. Guess they upgraded to 5.8 so our guesses average to perfection :)

OH yeah. No worries. :) She’s alright. Especially now — she’s under protection, and has blankie & teddy with her!

we’ve felt no aftershocks at all.

underground water main break reported by KFI at Eastern & Desoto. heh that’s the worst thing that I’ve heard, and those happen every day.

Is that a picture of TODAY’S quake? Where from” Which freeway?

I remember in the 1971 quake how the news radio didn’t even know how big the quake was. We were without running water for a week.

I am surprised there are photos so soon.

I’ve been around twisters, floods, hurricanes and Brook Shields(at the airport)...but never been around during an earthquake.

Best thing about earthquakes is that the national weather service is not continually issuing watches an warnings, so when one hits, by the time you realize just what it is, it is over with and no time to get scared. Well, I admit Loma Prieta in 89 was pretty scary even in Stockton Ca, but that's the last one I felt here.
