My family used to live in Glendale for about 4 years, at the corner of lcalde and Arboles. We had a dog who had a fit at the swimming pool every time that there was a minor quake.

San Fernando Valley — NW of L.A. — home of Northridge quake

Felt this one as a sharp couple of jolts, house “sounds,” then the rolling motion lasting awhile. Dogs around here did not bark beforehand which is odd. Only after it was well underway did they start in.

Nothing broken, few pics on walls moved a tiny bit. No other signs of trouble — pretty typical for a 5.4 felt miles away.

Had a 5. something days after Northridge and WOW, that was really something. It helps to be far away from the action.

That's strange. I didn't feel a thing. No ground shaking. Nothing.

I just heard that a church in Pomona had one of its exterior walls collapse outward from this morning’s earthquake. No injuries.

Including the 11:42 AM 5.X quake centered in Chino Hills, the Chino Hills, Diamond Bar and Yorba Linda areas have collectively had the most quakes in California all day, registering about 50 of them, most below 2.0, with a few above 3.0.

Have a question. Is the FR server(s) located in SOCA? I did not noticed any problems because of the earthquake affecting them. Thanks for posting back.

...On the Richter Scale, magnitude is expressed in whole numbers and decimal fractions. For example, a magnitude 5.3 might be computed for a moderate earthquake, and a strong earthquake might be rated as magnitude 6.3. Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude; as an estimate of energy, each whole number step in the magnitude scale corresponds to the release of about 31 times more energy than the amount associated with the preceding whole number value.

Fun YouTube video of Judge Judy taping and Big Brother house during eq. Pretty much proves people never do the right thing during an earthquake. They either just stare at the ceiling or run.

While riding in on the train this morning I talked with several people who worked downtown (one on the 39th floor who said she had quite a ride!) and one of the interesting stories I was told was that when the earthquake hit, they looked down from their windows and could see the pools which are on top of some of the less-tall high-rises being emptied out and falling onto the streets below. That’s something you don’t think about—being hit by a wave of water as you’re walking down the sidewalk.

When I went through Loma Prieta I saw the same thing with my own pool. The water went UP (since it couldn’t go sideways) and drenched the second story roof before it then went out the entry walkway in the form of a four foot wave of water hitting the sidewalk and street.
