Obama notes ‘tragic’ US past American history's "sad" aspects require action, the senator tells cheering journalists
CHICAGO » Sen. Barack Obama, speaking to a gathering of minority journalists yesterday, stopped short of endorsing an official U.S. apology to American Indians but said the country should acknowledge its history of poor treatment of certain ethnic groups.
"There's no doubt that when it comes to our treatment of Native Americans as well as other persons of color in this country, we've got some very sad and difficult things to account for," Obama told hundreds of attendees of UNITY '08, a convention of four minority journalism associations.
The Hawaii-born senator, who has told local reporters that he supports the federal recognition bill for native Hawaiians drafted by U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka, noted other ethnic groups but did not mention native Hawaiians when answering a question about his thoughts on a formal U.S. apology to American Indians.
"I personally would want to see our tragic history, or the tragic elements of our history, acknowledged," the Democratic presidential hopeful said.
"I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it's Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations, the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds."...

Of course certain 'ethnic groups' were treated badly in the past. But there is no reason to apologize until tThose within the 'ethnic groups' who treated each other badly have apologized.
Some 527 group must make this into a TV ad so white voters know what this racist has in mind, should he be elected President. We will never finish paying these lay-abouts for slavery that ended in 1865, before my ancestors came to America.

Any and all progress people have made toward better racial relations in the last 150 years will be gone. Gone.
If my money is taken for reparations I would not look at my black friends the same. I wouldn’t hate them but it would be different.
As a white male approaching 40 I feel I’m entitled to get reparations. For years society has preached how evil our demogrhapic is. And as a result of this I have high blood pressure, and a heart condition. I demand that those who have the power, pay us billions in reparations. All those rich liberals that have prayed upon us, must be forced to pay for the discrimination that we’ve faced. Affirmative action be damned, I want my reparations.
This country bends over backwards for ‘ethnic’ groups. Are whites suppose to be punished forever about what happened in the past? Slavery and pushing out Indians and Mexicans ended long before my ancestors immigrated here from Europe, legally. He’s a racist hate monger. I don’t owe any of these groups anything.
Who is the “we” of which he speaks? I haven’t done anything to anybody, nor have my ancestors........................

Anyone who sees this and STILL thinks McCain isn’t a better choice, is complicit in the radical destruction of our economy. The war on threatened reparations is on.
That said, McCain BETTER use this as a campaign platform.
This is a game changer and does not constitute taking the low road/negative campaign - this is a real and legitimate issue that needs to be exposed to teh American people.

he has the opportunity for an almost-free education.
all he has to do, is show up and do the work.
ucla begs for qualified blacks. they can’t get enough of them.

Let him campaign in large open-air crowds in the South on a reparations platform. Try it.
Similarly, if you're a victocrat black American, I support paying to repatriate you to some African paradise where you can pontificate on the evils of America.
If you're an American Indian who hates this country, we'll give you your own plot of land, but you're not allowed any of the conveniences of modern life -- no cars, dishwashers, clothes driers, modern tools, mass-produced clothing or shoes, shipped food, etc. If you want to have air-conditioning, modern medicine, cigarettes, and building materials like sheet rock, aluminum sheets, etc., you can't get your own land. Free land only for those who live in pre-encounter conditions.
