Shoot First, Ask Later - In Prince George's, a drug bust goes awry.
Washington Post ^ | August 7, 2008 | Masthead Editorial

THE DRUG raid by Prince George's County law officers on the home of Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo last week was a Keystone Kops operation from start to finish.

Acting on a tip that a 32-pound package of marijuana had been sent by Federal Express from Arizona to Mr. Calvo's home (addressed to his wife, Trinity Tomsic), Prince George's police swung into action. Which is to say they got on the phone, calling law enforcement agencies to see who might have a SWAT team available to bust the unsuspecting Calvo family. (It seems the police department's own team was tied up.) After being turned down at least once, they finally struck a deal with the Prince George's Sheriff's Office, whose track record with domestic disputes is extensive but whose experience with drug busts is slight. And it showed.

I’m so sick of this freakin’ crap. what the hell is wrong with these people? I used to be quite a supporter of all of our law enforcement groups but I am really starting to turn the corner.

"One of the dogs they shot was actually running OUT of the room to hide."

The cop was trained with video games. He probably thought it was 10,000 xp getting away.

Sometimes police departments enjoy sending out SWAT teams in situations that don’t warrant them and bad things can happen. There was a case in NC recently where an 18 year old college student stole a playstation. The local law enforcement decided that 2AM was an appropriate time to arrest him and went to his door. They knocked and before the door was even open they shot through the door killing the unarmed kid. He was a criminal no doubt but the actions of the police were absolutely atrocious.

Already covered this morning here.

I, for one, appreciate seeing it without having to scroll back through the entire day's posts.

I guess you are blessed with having more time on your hands.

Thanks for the link.

A search for the title didn’t work.

It also didn’t work on a thread yesterday that I had just posted.

I choose civilization.

The PG County Law Enforcement obviously has some people with decision making powers that are incompetent...or something more sinister.

This was a town mayor....the mother-in-law at first refused to sign for the package.

She screamed at the sight of black-garbed SWAT members rushing her house.

Wouldn’t anybody here do the same?

They shot the dogs....one that was running away.

All they had to do was knock on the door with the warrant in a suit and tie....but not PG County.

Maybe it’s because they’ve become deadened by their daily encounters with the ‘civilians’...and I use that term lightly.

It’s ridiculous and something needs to be done to rein this in.

Just two weeks ago, a cop-killer prisoner was found dead in solitary confinement...being watched every 15 minutes...at 10:30AM.

Well the police thugs killed the dogs, so those vicious black Labs won’t be able to attack any more cops. /sarcasm

All of them involved should be fired, pensions terminated, and do jail time.

The FBI is already involved and I would assume that heads are going to roll but the hell of it is that we have this same stupid problem all over the land at present and not just in PG county. Putting together a quasi-rational set of laws dealing with drugs would not be any sort of an overwhelming intellectual task but we’d basically be better off simply legalizing it all than to continue doing what we’re doing. 150 Years ago in America there were no drug laws whatsoever and there were no meaningful or large drug problems. Nobody should need to be Albert Einstein to figure that one out.

Hmm...Democrat Sherrif Michael Jackson allows raid on GOP Mayor of Berwyn Heights.

Nothing political here, no gotcha moments or frog-marches dancing in MJ's head!

Move along, nothing to see here.

Some people think these kind of measures are necessary if we are to win the War on Drugs.
