Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee thinks having former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney as the vice presidential nominee is a bad idea, but not because Romney is a Mormon.
"I think a lot of people, not just social conservatives, but a lot of the Republicans I know are not necessarily comfortable with Romney," he told CBS. "But it has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with inconsistencies in positions he's held, and that's it."
Huckabee, a former Baptist minister whose long-shot presidential campaign was kept alive mainly by support from Evangelicals, was commenting on organized efforts by some of his backers in Michigan and Ohio to urge Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) not to choose Romney as running mate.
McCain told the Weekly Standard on Wednesday that he was open to choosing a vice presidential nominee who supports abortion.
Several current and former Republican officials have been reported to be in the running as McCain's vice president, including Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R) and former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.
Romney, a former CEO of Bain and Co. who ended his bid for the Republican nomination in February, is reportedly on top of the shortlist. Pundits regard him as a good match for McCain, who has struggled to change perceptions that he is less adept on economic issues than Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).
But many critics have also cited Romney's being a Mormon as a huge obstacle to his political aspirations. He has also been repeatedly criticized for changing his views on abortion and gay marriages; he initially supported abortion and same-sex unions but is now opposed to both. His home state of Massachusetts was the first state to legalize gay marriages.
A conservative political action committee, Government Is Not God, said as early as March that Romney "utterly unacceptable"as a vice presidential nominee.
Huckabee ended his bid for the Republican nomination in March after losing considerable support among Evangelical voters to former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson, who is known for his opposition to abortion. He surprised everyone by winning the first contest of the primary season in Iowa, but failed to follow up with any other victories.
Oh, of course it does. The "religious right" continues to weaken the republican party while looking for that illusive clue.

That Huckster is onto something but he needs to include himself and all the other wannabes that ran this primary season in the no VP group.
With all respect to your opinion, my opinion is that there are essentially two VP choices that will help McCain. Romney or Cantor.
Romney is the economic genius that McCain needs to counter his weakness in this area. Romney will debate rings around his opponent. Romney will greatly help McCain in at least 3 critical states that McCain must hold on to, NV, MI, and CO.
Cantor is young, dynamic and a solid Conservative who will definitely breathe some life into the Old Man’s campaign.
Either one of these guys will be an asset. The others (Lieberamn, Ridge, Pawlenty etc.) will insure a GOP defeat.
And include McCain in the no POTUS group.
Huckabee is right. Romney is a flip-flopping RINO.

WASHINGTON -- Some Ohio social conservatives say they know whom they don't want John McCain to pick as his running mate: former Republican presidential rival Mitt Romney.
In a move that may say as much about their continuing uneasiness regarding McCain as it does about their mistrust of Romney, an alliance of Buckeye State social conservatives is trying to form a group: Social Conservatives Against Romney.
Although McCain is keeping his potential vice-presidential choices a tightly held secret, Romney is said to be on the short list.
"Christians are praying earnestly for the right person," said Diane Stover, a Parma resident who was a delegate for GOP candidate Mike Huckabee, a favorite of many social conservatives, in the Ohio primary. "McCain wouldn't have been our person. But we definitely feel like it would be a huge help to John McCain to pick someone we can be confident will represent the value-voter position. I don't think it helps him (McCain) at all in Ohio if he picks Romney."

Or maybe he isn’t delusional enough to ignore Romney’s LIBERAL record in Massachusetts.
What is there to be jealous of? His money? Certainly not the kind of campaign he ran for President. Any candidate that spent the kind of money Romney did and didn't come close to winning the GOP nomination is a political loser.
In addition, his family has avoided military service for over 150 years, how the hell could an SOB like that ask other peoples kids to die?
Looks like Cantor will get the nod.

1. Huckabee gets VP slot
2. McCain has to step down from the Presidency due to health reasons
3. Huckabee becomes President
4. Huckabee nominates Duncan Hunter as his VP
5. Huckabee decides not to run for a second term
5. Hunter wins the Presidency in 2012
